FROM THE FILM See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould. A great version of the Hüsker Dü classic, with Bob's current band (Jon Wurster and Jason Narducy), and Dave Grohl lending support. Be sure to purchase the film - a great night and great tribute to a punk pop icon.

Grohl must be getting that "playing with my hero" feeling here. I'm from St. Paul, and saw Husker Du a LOT... IMHO Bob Mould is more responsible for the "grunge" music genre than ANYONE.

Love Mould but my favorite is Greg Sage of Wipers.Nobody in the rock era has his combination of guitar and songwriting skills,absolutely unbelievable.He is the main reason that Cobain started playing.Cobain put out an 8 song tribute to Sage and offered Sage the opening slot after Nirvana broke big.Sage turned him down.Good thing as Wipers would have stolen the show on a nightly basis.

Supernova1987A Sage absolutely was a pioneer, but IMHO more punk than grunge.

lastdaysguitar I just love Sage's music more than anything,regardless of the label.As long it hits us inside,that's what's important,right?Bob Mould's sound has always been great,too.I saw Husker Du around '87,Living Room,Providence,one of the loudest and best shows I've ever seen.

+Supernova1987A Agree that its what hits us that is important, however I stand by my statement "Bob Mould is more responsible for the "grunge" music genre than ANYONE" as he was (again IMHO) "the guy" that really made grunge popular. So my comment really wasn't about what music you like the most, it was about who pioneered and lifted grunge into the public eye... and that was Bob.

it was the first record I heard by them, I saw them on that tour in Newcastle but in truth the album didn't sink in until a little while after but when it did, yeah, I hear you... I went through a really bad time coming out in the late 80's, and those songs, particularly this and too far down, were the soundtrack of my depression, whilst all this I've done for you was the sound of emancipation; forever grateful bob, and grant

Watching Bob Mould rip through his guitar solos and manage to "shred" but in a totally tasteful, appropriate, musical, and often very melodic fashion, is awe inspiring. Sure, there are guys who can play faster out there. Lots of them. Can they write a song this good, too? I think we know the answer to that one. Bob's guitar playing is an explosion of raw energy being channeled into the perfect licks or most sublime phrasing imaginable during the solos in each of his songs. They are an organic part of a whole and the musicianship and artistry on display when he decides to let loose is a beautiful thing to behold.

There isn't much of a significant age-gap between Mould and Grohl -- more than 5, less than 10 ; so, it's not really an old vs. new legend dynamic. Remember, Dave was in his own band, Scream (contemporary with Hüsker Dü when they were at their plateau), back when he was still living in Northern Virginia before he joined Nirvana.
@IAmTheBestMang
@IAmTheBestMang 4 жыл бұрын
@C Burgess Dave Grohl has done more than pop grunge (which doesn't exist. you're thinking of post-grunge but nice try) and AOR. Besides, just because a Grohl song didn't have a profound effect on your life doesn't mean it won't have that effect on someone else's life. I say this as someone who is fairly neutral about the Foos and who absolutely adores Bob Mould.

it's Bob's bizarre and captivating capacity to be able to rock, grieve, inspire and enjoy himself. It's a great reach back into the 80s and a reminder of how, where and why we've reached where we are now Dave Grohl's just trying to hang in; there's a hint of guruism happening here! Bob, looking forward to your new work, out soon.

I was late to discovering Husker Dü and The Replacements (being from Georgia, I heard R.E.M. early), but now that I have heard more of their material I realize that two bands of random dudes from Minneapolis influenced pretty much every non-Grunge mainstream Alt Rock band of the 90's(Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, Gin Blossoms,etc.)

I can attest to the regionality in those days. In the upper midwest it was ALL about Husker/Replacements. Nobody I knew (outside of the local college radio station) had even heard of minutemen, REM and others. By the mid-80s the rest of the country started to opening up; 120 Minutes probably had a lot to do with it

In 1986 I lived in the country in Ohio and I was Dying for new music. It took till I went to college 2 years later and could hear 97 X out of Oxford Ohio to have my mind blown of the variety of music that really existed that I didn't know about. Sadly I didn't learn about Husker Du until years later. When I listen to Candy Apple Grey all I can think of is how Husker Du was cheated out album sales from people like me just because the record and radio industry had such a tight control of what music go distributed

I met him, fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes… the devil’s eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy’s eyes was purely and simply… evil.
