I bought this saw yesterday because I was told it was really dependable when it's being started and would never wear my arm out... My previous saw was too big and heavy to lug around. I think all the plastic on the 440 was intended to make it 10 lbs, yay!! Your review was hilarious!!

I've had some good luck with my Husqvarna 440e. Mine wouldn't start out of the box even though I followed the instructions. Turns out the carburetor was set way too lean to run where I live (700' above sea level). Had to richen the adjustment screws about 2 whole turns! I guess it was factory set for about 7000'? Since tuning it has been quite reliable! Plenty of power for me and the light weight helps minimize fatigue. What was wrong with your carburetor? 8/10 small engines I've purchased (not just chainsaws) have been improperly tuned from the factory. At least the 440 doesn't use fixed jets!

Just got one and at first the thing would die out if idled for a small while with no throttle and be next to impossible to restart , thought I would have to do a carburetor adjustment ,but first I just did a small idle adjustment just under to the point when chain was going to start to move and the thing has run flawlessly ,restart is as simple as it gets,quarter of a pull and it's off.

Great review. Sounds like it's jetted for sea level? I'm in FL and mine starts up and runs fine, but doesn't have a very high RPM I actually thought something was wrong with it. I only paid $200 for mine, so I'll use it for as long as it lasts... was hoping being name brand I would be able to get parts for it easily. Maybe not.

I couldn't stop laughing. Thanks for that. I just bought this saw in Jan '22 and one thing about it that seems weird is when you get bound up in a tree knot or turn it a little sideways when cutting (pinched cut) the saw acts like it has some kind of equilibrium sensor and it shuts off.

Alan, just bought a husky 440 reconditioned on Amazon $250. No issues, runs great but might be developing a baroil leak. My 4th husky chainsaw, possibly the best.
@kenibnanak55543 жыл бұрын
Decent review. I have an older model 440e. It has totally different oil and fuel filler caps. Also the chain tension adjustment on mine is a fold in crank. Spin it one way to tighten the chain, the other way to loosen or remove the chain. That said, I find this one greatly superior to my Home Depot Poulon (which actually melted on me in use) and the old McGregor which was always breaking that little nut bar on the tension bar). It is lighter than both of them (because it has so much plastic) and mine starts okay, which is a big difference between ours. No doubt as the years rolled on Husqvarna made subtle internal design changes for more profit. I can get fairly high RPMs out of it depending on how much trigger pull I give. Like yours, mine leaks gas, but unlike yours I don't have oil leaks. The gas leak on mine only happens when I refuel. For a few minutes it leaks about 3 table spoons of gas, then the leak stops. Mine does drink oil however and each full tank of fuel uses about a 3/4 tank of chain saw oil. I don't resharpen my chains. I know I should, but I just put the worn down ones (they blow dust, not chips) in a box and put on a new chain. I have had mine for maybe 8 years adn I am on my 6th chain, so I use mine a fair bit making firewood, clearing trails, etc. Would I buy another if this one broke? If I don't see a better buy for the money, yes, sure.

So far I like my Husqvarna. Professional tree cutters use them. Mine starts fine but I bought mine at a dealership that services them and they started it up, tuned it before I walked out the door, something you don’t get when you buy them at Lowes. Stihl and the other brands have the same amount of plastic and they all work just fine.

I have 2 Stihl saws, the 14" broke out the chain adjuster, the 24" floods the carb so I ordered a new carb. I bought this 440 saw since I have over a dozen dead standing pine trees needing to be turned into firewood. From Big-R it ran rich and wouldn't idle. Once I adjusted the carb for 6,500 ft elevation it became usable. Nice tip for grinding flat blade groves in the mixture screws, whoever came up with that spline screw never ran a chainsaw in their life. Thanks

Bubba, Thanks for the review. I believe that I have purchased the exact same chainsaw that you have, up to the point of leaking gas and oil everywhere. It has never been easy to start. Right now I am waiting on delivery of a starter pulley. I wore the old one out from pulling on it so many times. I have read that this model is easily flooded and that you should choke for one pull and then notch it down to high idle and crank. Thanks for conveying the frustration that I have experienced with this saw. It truly is a POS. Craig

The thing with this saw, is you have to learn how these start. One thing you never want to do is touch the trigger. You set the choke, which sets the high throttle, pump it 6 or 10 times, pull it twice. It should bark off, then without ever touching the trigger, move the choke lever back to run and it should bang off on high rev. Let it smooth out about 5 to 10 seconds and then blip the throttle. I started mine like this for 7 years until earlier last year it wont start at all. I don't know if the ethanol gas finally rotted the carb out or something is clogging the jets(why im searching youtube for 440 xtorq vids)or the fuel filter, hoses, or primer bulb is shot. I pulled the plug for the first time and it looked fine but I replaced it and nothing changed. I poured mix gas in the bang hole and it barks right off for about a second and dies. Definitely a fuel issue.

The muffler chokes it down. Open it up and it'll run stronger at higher RPM & tune easily. I bought a "Refurbished" 440 like new in box for half price years ago. It had a bad carb, replaced it and it has run like a champ for years. Loosen the oil cap when you store it to release pressure or it'll puke all the oil out. It needs an oil tank pressure vent like the fuel tank has.

U must have gotten a lemon. Usually a goon saw. Have a 455 model. Good saw. Is a defect on the oil line on these saws. Over time the oilline shrinks and it leaks oil. So u replace it and glue it. Has been good then. Think stihls are a little better saw. Though the smaller ones seem a little doggie. Have ran a 350 husqvarna. Really liked that saw. Good power to weight ratio. Big saws are kinda heavy for tree trimming. Why i was looking at a 440 model. The new 440 wonder how people like that? Soposedly starts good.

I got one that doesn't start after two uses but I don't have the skill or desire to mess with it. I figure it ought to run without me having to tear it apart every other time. Most every complaint I heard in this video I attribute to user error. Anyone tearing into the carburetor of a relatively new saw is most likely introducing problems. Re-tuning a relatively new saw also most likely introduced starting problems. Failing to understand how a purge bulb functions creates starting problems. As a final nail in the coffin, that plastic "bubble" is actually called a purge bulb. It's also often called a primer bulb, which it isn't but called that just the same. Issues with leaking oil and fuel when stored tend to be significantly rrduced by simply breaking the seals on the fuel and oil caps to relieve tank pressure before putting it away. Those tanks get pressurized when the saw is runing, Bubba. I've worked on a lot of saws, owned and operated by some really uneducated people where power tools are concerned. Neither Stihl or Husqvarna are the easiest to work on as they are "over engineered", but when set up properly, and not fiddled with by amateurs, always work fine and do so for a very long time.

All my 2-stroke equipment including ATV’s run better and less carb issues running on premixed gas out of a can. Always consistent mix. My experience anyways

I concur...Paid a lot of money for my 440 years ago and its best use is...without a doubt ... holding the work bench down, while taking up shop space. Wish I had my ole Jonsered that I had in the 70's...

Same here. Run away from the 440 it’s junk. Disappointing. My 2004 Husky 350 has been a great saw. When putting both models side by side

I've had mine for years and use the shit out of it and never had a problem. I use 94 pump gas and castor927 same thing I use in all my stuff. Never a starting issue. The only issue is parts but I've never had to replace anything but chains.

Come on man, I have run these farm use saws way past the intended use. First thing we need to address is you, if you need a pro saw buy one Husqvarna makes them but you are going to have to pony up the cash. As far as the carburetor goes......you wasted your money buying a new one, You should have used that money for a co-pay at your Doctor: got that adhd under control. The carb just needed tunning, not replaced. You might want to look into tunning a carburetor with the current EPA regulations

You bought a homeowner saw from a big box store. They all have lots of plastic.

*push the primer 6 times and let it rip I like the saw for the price👀 **allabout.wiki/Chainsaw** used maybe 10 tanks of fuel, 6 loads of hard wood and am very pleased with it. some will say its under powered for a 20" but I like it better then a 18". I have a 18" also which is great also just like the extra 2" inches. the saw is very light also which is nice. Huskavarna owns Husqvarna so I am sure it will last. its not a sthl but still love it! I have seen some bad reviews on the saw but do not agree with them. some people told me not to waste my money but have since changed there mind. just have some common sense and cut some wood!*

Stop buying chainsaws at big box stores and buy from a dealer and they’ll make sure it starts and is adjusted properly.

also i feel like 90% of this is just....none of you know wtf youre doing. You dont know when to open full throttle the gas when to choke how to actually prime it. Its like if someone bitches a 4-speed is broken cause uve no idea how to use a clutch.

Mine starts just fine. For the money you just can't beat this saw. Some people are just dumb asses and can't follow directions.

I will never buy a reconditioned saw again! I should have bought a new saw for the same price that would be more reliable.
@howardthemechanicbubba53764 жыл бұрын
brian vaughan Thanks for watching. ! Never buy a reconditioned anything. It’s usually something someone beat the shat out of and returned. Or something that was broke right out of the box
@phillipward9373 жыл бұрын
@@howardthemechanicbubba5376 around the turn of the century, I worked for a major tool retailer who would get reconditioned Dewalt 12 sliding compound maitre saws. Dewalt told us, people would go to home depot buy the saw, build a deck over the weekend and return the saw Monday morning. After that home depot couldn't sell it as a new saw, so they'd return it to Dewalt and Dewalt would try it out and if everything was good they'd stamp an (R) for Reconditioned on the case.
