This is great! I have a slightly newer LGT2654 with no pedals on the right side floor like yours. My forward / reverse is controlled by a lever that sticks up through the fender in that space ahead of your cup holder. I was warned by the dealer about the drive axle breaking because of a too small diameter for a tractor that big. People tended to overload / overwork it. So far, so good. I cut mucho grass on our farm. I mow inside and outside of the pasture fence, and around our cabin in the Maple grove. Thanks for sharing this good idea. Your Raptor looks similar to my 400EX, except for the cool goodies you've added!

Just broke mine, snapped one side of the axle. I think when you use the bagger and that grass is moist and quite heavy it’s to much for it in rough ground. Anyway I bought a new one and have it back up and running.

I just removed my snow blower and soft cab from my LGT2654 last night. I plan to get my mower deck back on today so I can start mowing on our farm. Although I haven't attempted Jeff's rear end oil change upgrade yet, I did replace the front axle bushings with the bearings upgrade kit last summer. I also installed a new drive belt in late fall when I took the mower deck off to put the snow blower on.

@@mikeschlup5279 If it was the K46 then not only is it serviceable but Tuff Torque sells a full re-build kit for it, or just the pump re-build if that's all that's worn out.. As well as they sell the oil plugs the case was built to have from the factory, Husqvarna does not use them and under-warranty considers them non-serviceable.. Although the same transmission on a Troy Built has the plugs and is considered serviceable. Also depends where you go, our local Husky dealer would gladly re-build the trans for anyone, even if its a John Deere they'll take it in.

I've had the trans out of my 52 inch version a few times. I made a wooden cradle to balance the tranny and jacked the mower high, it's not really a bad job. K66 tuff torq trans has 2 compartments, hydrostatic side and gear side. Full synthetic oil is the correct way to go, I used 10w50. It's has 2 filters onboard. One for the hydrostatic charge pump and one between gear and hydro case. Stripping the hydro side out of box isn't as daunting as it appears, just watch a few youtube videos to get the idea and take a handful of photos as you strip the unit down. Filters aren't cheap. Sorry to get off track, my k66 has two drain plugs already installed from factory, one for hydro side and one for gear side. They are the two 10mm bolts on the base/pan. But filling in position looks tough.

“Anything can go wrong when you’re trying to take that transaxle out”-proceeds to drill a hole in the bottom of the transmission instead, since nothing can go wrong with that lol. I agree they should’ve designed this for easier service, but I’d say removing some bolts and linkages is easier than drilling and tapping.

@@johnyoungblood2913I think the proper level is 3/4” or 1” below full. Might find that info if you search Hydro Gear or Tuff Torq websites or some discussion board. If you fill it filling then some will come out the vent when the transmission heats up and the oil expands.

It's amazing that someone can design and build something as complex as a transmission, but be too God damn stupid to put a drain and a fill plug in a accessible place
@1thcorg
@1thcorg 2 жыл бұрын
there are four bolts holding the trans axil in place. it drops right out piece of cake. you need to clean it. I don't believe in doing lazy mechanical work. You lift the rear, place it on jack stands take out four bolts and the transaxle comes right out. you can put your lift under it, drop it down on the lift and roll it right out. shake it, open the cap a pour it right out. then you clean it, that has a lot to do with how it cools, there is a reason there is a fan on top. In case you didn't notice you have oil leaking out of the bolt you put in. The true sad part of all of this is Husqvarna says you never need to service the transaxle. Which brings me to the story of my neighbor who ran his mower plum out of oil. Of course it seized. then, THEN he all proudly comes home with a brand new mower that claims you never have to change or add oil. Well i don't have to change my transaxle oil either, i mean i can save the cost of two quarts of oil and just replace the transaxel...

Thanks Jeff! I am going to be buying a new lawn tractor but I strongly dislike how the transmission/differential is not user serviceable. I was thinking of just using a vacuum pump to pump out the fluid like a Mercedes oil change and replace because I was concerned about metal shavings in the transmission from drilling and tapping a drain plug, but since it seems like you're successful with the drain plug, I am guessing there were few to no shavings in the transmission, gravity FTW!

@jeffcastellawracing7259 2 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. I don’t know how many years is has been since I have done mine but it is still going good. When I you drill it the drill bit pulls Metal shavings out and if you’ll put grease on your drill bit all the metal shavings will stick to it and when oil comes out it flushes all other metal shavings out. Wish you the best with your new mower.

When you drill the hole the old oil Flushes any shavings out and your drill pulls to the outside it doesn’t throw metal shavings to the inside. If you're concerned about metal shavings, just get a couple of magnets tied with a piece of metal hanger that could go through the hole that you drilled, sweep them around, and any metal shaving will attach to the magnets or magnet, pull them out and you'll have nothing to worry about.

I think I have this same mower or one very close. (LGT2654) I didn’t see this video before changing my oil but for anyone that is trying to decide which method to use I dropped the transaxle to do mine and the only hard part I remember was trying to get the belt unstuck when I pulled it into a place it should not have been. If you don’t have a tap and die kit I think I only took out 4 bolts to drop it.
