Hi Aaron I posted a comment 4 months ago since then I've put 6,000 miles on my 701. I just installed a Coober ECU And it's AWESOME.........It's transformed the driveability, response, Character, not to mention the seat of the pants experience.......my pants ARE STILL ON FIRE!!! Install one you won't regret it and the install is plug & play. Also a Wings Exhaust slip-on is due to be delivered in 3 days. These 2 upgrades march perfectly with the 701. Also immediately swap out the O.E.M. magura clutch slave cylinder with an Oberon replacement. Install it as soon as you get it. Don't be like me and have the stock one blow out on top of a Mountain 100 miles from home.......with the replacement Oberon on the work bench in the garage. What ever happened to Vol 2 of the Knox 701 upgrade?

Hi Donald, thanks for the comment! Yes thats awesome that you got one too! Sorry for the delay in Vol.2, we have been riding the bike quite a bit, but havent shot vol.2 yet, that isnt to say it hasnt featured on the channel (it has quite a few times). But we are recommencing the series very soon. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

Great video as always! Fellow 701 enduro owner here. First thing needed is an aftermarket clutch slave, its not a case of if, its WHEN the oem fails. Other than that, stick some decent tyres on and enjoy :) Proper wicked bike and I love mine.

My 701 (2019) I have changed quite a bit. Often it was my wife who suggested these changes, as I am usually one who doesn't like to dump much money into bikes. I am from a Motocross, Enduro, Trail and Dune rider this was my first legit street bike (I did ride sometimes my 520sx full tilt on roads to get to a new riding area which is legal where I am in Arizona). First one was a Seat Concepts seat. Do this, I cannot tell you how much it helps when you have a pavement section to do. Exhaust. I usually do that on my hard core supercross bikes, as I need a spark arrester, but this bike? Wow, huge difference, I got the Yoshimira must be 25% of the weight of the original thing. Here is the big thing with that exhaust too, remember it is also a catalytic converter, so it just belts out heat, it is super nice not having that dumb thing anymore. Acerbis handguards, I've tried Cyrca but they blocked my turn indicator and I kept looking like Grandpa Jenkins who has his blinker on 24/7. Tusk rear plate and 1 gallon rotopax (just installed this going to use it hopefully in 6 days if this covid-19 shit stops). Tires, I can't wait to see what you guys do for tires, I am currently using Heidenau K60. I've done some long dirt sections with them, and they are in my opinion better than the TKC's that came on the bike. I've done the El Camino Del Diablo from Yuma to Ajo, which was a shit ton of sand and what I call kitty litter. I've done the Mojave Trail, Whitemore Overloook (that was amazing), a bunch of stuff in southern Utah. They dance, they move around, but they do pretty well, where they shine is that pavement section home or back to the truck. I am on a never ending quest for tires, I want to try something different, but this is my 2nd rear Heidenau, it is almost due for a change (they last about 3000 miles). I have 7800 miles on my bike so far, it is not my primary mode of transportation, I use it to explore remote areas of Arizona/Cali/Utah. This summer I plan to do a ton in Colorado and Wyoming. Really curious what you all decide for tires, really curious.

Thanks for the input Gil, you've got a lot experience with the bike! Interesting ref the seat, may end up doing something with that in the long term depending on how much milage we do. Also ref the exhaust, yes you are right, there is a lot of heat in the end can which I have noticed. Finally, interesting feedback with regards to tyres, will check them out! Many thanks, Aaron KNOX

Kudos for calling it as you see it - adventure bikes are mostly tourers. Too heavy for any offroad riding. Marketing teams are doing a good job putting pro riders on a 200 kg + bike ripping it through single tracks.

I’m toying with the idea of putting a deposit on one tomorrow. Gone back and forth between wr450 as a toy at around £6.5k, new 790 Adventure R blasting the budget at £12.5 but usable for work and this sitting in the middle. It takes me too long to earn the money so I’m reluctant to pull the trigger. Nicely timed video and good to see one being ridden properly.

Great video, I have a 2018 701 enduro i have put almost 10,000 miles on about 60/40 doing backroads and camping/living off the bike for 5-10 days at a time with a few expert only sections offroad on it. I love the 701 i may upgrade suspension as it gets a bit bouncy on the road for some reason above 70 mph and wears the 50/50 front tire strangely. but off road it feels like a big version of my 300 xcw. I do not push the 701 like the 300 which I use for semi "hard enduro" however it does all things at least decent and most REALLY WELL. Great choice!

I can't believe how much the new Huskies cost. My first dirt bike was a Husky 250 XC. I was lucky enough to own a TC 610 kind of rare in the states. It was road hard and put away wet for 20 years and never let me down. It's my body that let me down I just sold it last summer. Now I'm mostly Street on my adventure bike.

Coober usa ecu with exhaust and evap and SAS delete. I contacted coober usa for my 2020 701 enduro and they stated it's sage to do so. I love my bike but it needs more on the bottom and I don't want to change the gearing and loose my highway capability so to do that I'm hoping to add power to solve my issue. Coober usa works closely with KTM and test the oil integrity every 200 rpm during dyno testing. Does not void your warranty unlike power comander

Just seen your video. I have the KTM 690 enduro R .... A few things, the exhaust is lethal, it will burn you if the bike falls on you. Look at a rally kit like the Rade or Nomad kits,. They are good value and make a massive difference for all round use and the lights are far better than standard. I changed my BMW 1250 GS for the KTM and love this little bike. If you want to get extra fuel capacity look again at the Rade Garage solution.. Good luck with the new bike.

SAS and canister delete. Open airfilter and can. Akrapovic evo ecu map... then you are looking at near 80bhp on the rear. And perhaps a fuel dongle to avoid running it to lean. And if you want some wind protection... take a look at the Rade garage rally kit. I did all of the above, and it transformed the bike.... Much better power, No surging, and decent wind protection.

I would change the exaust. Not so much for the sound but for the looks and the weight of the thing. It’s massive. I totally agree with your opinion on ADVbike, a lot of marketing. The 701 is unique, and that’s actually a shame. Strange that you didn’t go for the LR-version.

Yes and the exhaust gets really really hot! We didnt notice it too much when riding in the winter, but in the summer you could cook your dinner on it.. Hey KA, i also have a new 701 too (actually mine is an LR version with the second tank). I agree what you sad about the brake lever, and the lever guard, i also snapped it on the first offroad trip. So a propper lever guard with an aluminium frame is a must have item. And yes the brake lever is not cheap:) I dont know how tall you are, but i'm a big guy, so if i stand up, the handle bar is too low for me, maybe the footpegs are too high too...i dont know yet. Great video and I look forward to your next upgrades. I'm purchasing either the 701 LR or the KTM 790 Adventure R and am interested in which bike you've enjoyed more. I'm sure the 790 R is the better road bike, but how close does the 790 R come to the off-road abilities of the 701? The 701 is about 70 lbs. less than the 790 R, so I'm sure it's easier to handle off-road. Thanks for your thoughts.
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom! Both are excellent bikes, but you hit the nail on the head, the 790R is a way better road bike. You can ride the 701 Enduro no problems on the road, and it is quite fun actually, but doesnt have any where near the refinement of the 790 Adventure R. However, off road is a different story, the 701 is so so much easier to ride and more capable than the 790R. We tackle terrain with ease on the 701 that we struggled with on the 701... but it depends how rough off road you want to go really and how good a rider you are. Hope that helps. Aaron KNOX

Which tyres would you put on for better bite and still some road performance?
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, there are a few options, but you'll have to wait till the next installment Im afraid ;). However, in any case, of course there is always a bit of compromise, pretty sure when we go grippier off-road we'll lose some on road performance... The TKC80's are a genuinely brilliant 50/50 tyre in our opinion and are great on road, its just off-road they don't have the sharp grip. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

Is there any considerations of a nice sprocket combo, as far as gearing these down from the 15-46 oem. Thanks for any tips
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour 4 жыл бұрын
Well yes, and that would help you off road, I personally find 1st a little long off road and want to change into second, but then it either chugs or stalls in the technical stuff... However, the beauty of this bike is the on/off road capability and shortening the gearing would make 6th gear pretty hard to live with at higher speed! Thanks, Aaron KNOX

Knox Armour there’s a very tasty gear set that’s out there for this bike, shortens 1-2 and lengthens the rest for a better spread, it’s like 2000 pound so it’s silly money, if only ktm would just copy those ratios

@@KnoxArmour yeah they're the reasons im going to go for one ! i dont want to say im downgrading because i dont think it is a downgrade its just a side step, im currently on a 1190 adv and its great for long distance touring but as soon as you get it in the loose stuff its like you mentioned in the video it is just wayyy too heavy .. so taking a side step , get the 701 and do a build , rally screen soft luggage ect.. and have an extremely capable all rounder !! 😍
@CantPickTheNameIwant

What a hell are you talking about?! Price is everything - 701 with rally kit costs far more than 790 adv R, in other words, you get less for much more money
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour 4 жыл бұрын
Not exactly sure on the comment, but having ridden both models on and off road, in our opinion the 701 is much easier to manage and ride off road than a 790 adventure... at least for us. We ride trails on the 701 we wouldn't bother attempting on the 790. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@CantPickTheNameIwant
@CantPickTheNameIwant 4 жыл бұрын
@@KnoxArmour Aaron, I mean that 701+rally kit (including fuel tanks) costs somewhere around 15k Euro if I'm not wrong. Yeah, I agree that it is much easier to manage than 790 adv, but with 790 for 14k you get an all-purpose bike, that can carry more luggage, a second passenger, ride on the high-way with higher speeds and offroad. KTM is a reasonable choice because after some time you will grow your skills and will be able to ride 790 almost everywhere. Spending 15k Euro just because this bike looks cool and covers lack in offroad riding skills, if so - buy FE 450 or 350 or 501. Best regards
