Husqvarna 701 Enduro LR Brake Pedal Height Adjustment

In this video I share how you can adjust the brake pedal height on your Husqvarna 701 enduro or KTM 690 enduro. KTM/Husqvarna share this type of brake pedal set up, so you will need to take a little more time to adjust the brake pedal height on this type of machine than on most KTM/Husky off road bikes. All in all not too tough to accomplish, and certainly worth the time it takes to get things dialed in, especially if you are going to be riding the bike hard. Recently I have spent a bunch more time off road in very technical situations and found this small adjustment has made a noticeable difference in providing better control of the Husky 701 enduro (or KTM 690 enduro).

Thanks for the video. I went to adjust my 690 brake pedal and thought, this is not like my 300. More steps but seems just as simple. Thanks again!

Hey Chris, thanks for the video! I want to do an adjustment on 701 as well and the manual says, this can by achieved by moving the brake cylinder forth or back (after loosen the two fittings). Have you considered that?

So sliding the brake cylinder back and forth actually adjusts the point of engagement in the stroke of your brake pedal. Push it too far forward and your brake will drag, too far back and you will have to push the pedal all the way down to get it to start to grab. So if you are needing a minor height adjustment, then theoretically you can play with the cylinder (and top stop screw). But if you need a substantial change (I upgraded to lower footpegs) it can only come from pulling the foot peg bracket off and adjusting the push rod and lock nut. Hope that makes sense. Hey there, thank you for the video. I have noticed you have carbon engine protection covers - but cut in half. Did you cut it by yourself? I understand this is a better idea to keep it protected, but not too hot under a full cover? I believe a video about this might be important and interesting for the 701 owners. Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback! I found this one on eBay. The part is made in Finland. The description is KTM 690 SMC/Enduro/Duke Carbon Fiber Clutch Cover, Engine Protector, Shield. The seller is einbouk2015. They sell a full coverage version but I agree with you I prefer the half cover. That’s where the engine case is most vulnerable from brake pedal impact.

Question. So I know the two small 8 mm. adjustment screws by the foot brake lever adjust free play ( 3-5mm. per spec. ). But, whey do you have to remove the entire foot peg assembly?

I needed much more correction than free play offered. I also hesitate to use up free play. More importantly, I want to use that free play to be very sure the brake is not dragging....could easily lead to issues. Cheers!

You can do this without removing the bracket. Loosen the master first and can get to it.

AS doped304 has mentioned below the torque setting of 80Nm for the swingarm pivot bolt I have left a comment below please take a look I'm concerned that I have stripped mine

The service manual matches what you’re saying for torque spec. Of course not all wrenches are equally calibrated. Did you back it out and check the threads?

@@dualsportgarage Hi Chris that wasn't the problem just a bit of in experience from me really you dont mention that the bolt your tightening 19mm one actually goes into a thread which is part of the bolt on the other side. so in order to make the 80Nm you need to hold the other side of the swingarm pivot bolt. I got lucky the first time i adjusted my brake lever and it must have just grabbed might be worth a mention in your video. but I still liked your video. hey cheers for the prompt reply to.

Can you do a clutch pedal adjust video for the 701 or just describe in comments how its similar/different from the brake side?

The shift pedal is on a splined shaft with a keeper bolt on the end. Remove the 8 mill bolt at the pivot point and you can pull the shifter off the shaft and rotate up or down as needed then lock in place with the bolt when you’re happy with the height of the shifter. Don’t forget loctite! Hope this is what you were asking. Good luck 👍

Yep mine slide off with no effort. Should add a dab of grease or anti seize to the shaft before reassembling.

Hmmmmm....not sure if I agree with all the information provided in this tutorial. The slotted bracket that holds the master cylinder is designed to move in order to provide the freeplay necessary for the brake leaver. Which is 3-5mm. I guess you can do it the way this video instructs but its a lot more involved by removing the foot peg bracket and adjusting the heim joint. Also the torque spec for the swing arm pivot bolt is 59 ft. pounds. Looks like you were a little shy with that gentle snug you gave it with that 3/8.This is per the factory service manual so don't shoot the messenger!

Hey guys I have just tried to tighten the swingarm pivot bolt mentioned above to the recommended 80Nm/59lbf ft as per the manual but got to 65 Nm and it seems to just be slipping I'm hoping that it hasn't stripped (shouldn't of) has anyone else had this concern Im on a 2022 701 love some feedback here
