Adding value to NAM by capturing your great amps is worth more than 5$ for a capture set. I'm grateful you are taking the time to make great captures for NAM and Tonex. Thanks and I'll continue patronizing your profiles/captures.

I work for the largest open source company on the planet. If it makes you feel better we have the same type of people freeloading and complaining about anything and everything we do to keep the technologies/products going. It just comes with the space.

Love the rant - I'm so glad you spoke freely and openly about the ridiculous entitlement a lot of these guys in the NAM group seem to possess. There is SO much "gimme gimme gimme" from people who are contributing absolutely nothing to tonehunt or the development of the platform for that matter. They're under some farcical impression that just because Steve Atkinson chose not to monetize his work in any way, no one has the right to make any money from this platform -- and the products of all the time/money/gear investment dudes like you, Karlis/amalgam, and some others are putting in should be freely given to them. I saw one comment on I think one of amalgam's posts advertising a NAM pack that said 'We're advertising paid packs on here now? This is just greedy' or something to that effect -- pretty ironic lol. Like you say, this is not (and was never meant to be) some sort of altruistic socialist movement. For everything you guys are contributing to the community with spending the time & money to capture your insane collections of amps that none of us would be able to sniff, let alone play through, you MORE than deserve to offer the opportunity people to monetarily support your work with paid packs. Thanks so much for all you do!

Had the same experience with some people in NAM. I asked the trolls what they contributed to make requests… they contributed nothing. At that point I was One of the main contributor with training and publishing amps with the help of Petr Canov. BUT… this is just 3% of the group but they are the loud 3%. The rest enjoys the ride and wants to contribute. Thanks HW for your effort and pushing NAM forward. I bought also the NAM packs 🙌

Bro I love NAM and I been buying ALL your stuff because it's GREAT value.... And I'll keep buying it. And I'm going to buy a 70's Greco too because this pod and I love Les Paul's. Bottom line I'm stoked... So thanks. Just know people are stoked about it too. Purple Plexi.... Far out... Top Shelf of the Top Shelf.

Your presence in the NAM community is wonderful and what makes the community grow. I hope that you feel the love more than the hate Jonathan. Without your captures, I'd have far less interest in NAM. If there was a company making a stereo I/O guitar pedal that sounded as good as NAM, I would be using that product with your profiles. Many of us greatly appreciate the work you do and want to pay you for your hard work. I am one of those who is happy to buy your capture packs.

Speaking of buying non-Gibson Gibsons, Fame is an awesome European brand. I went out on a limb and bought a Fame Forum IV modern and love it. If you're looking for something relatively affordable and extremely high quality, I can't recommend Fame enough. I got it instead of a Gibson or PRS and it's nearly the same quality.

I've bought a couple packs, and also downloaded a few for free. Never once had anything but gratitude. Try not to let the assholes get you down, HW. Anyone with half a brain respects the work you do, and understands it is work and as such, should be paid for. Great podcast episode.

People are stupid. Just because the technology is free doesn't mean the original amps you bought were free or your skill in micing cabs is worthless. As a primarily prog metal (5150 lover) guy, your Badcat and Matchless Tonex tones are some of my absolute favorite clean tones (I'm actually on the lookout to buy an original Black Cat 30R now). People should be happy to have these made available on the NAM platform. Besides, the prices you ask are incredibly cheap for the quality.

Please profile the Magnatones for Tonex. I wonder what would happen if one was to try to capture the pitch changing Vibrato out of one of those Amps??? Might be a Challenge, for someone who created a Whole new Amp, just recently.

Well, I watched the Les Paul shootout and ended up buying a 1979 Greco LP.. I’ve owned a few custom shop Gibsons over the years and this one plays and sounds more like a vintage LP than the Gibsons did. Just my experience, but these guitars are the true unsung heroes of the guitar world.

Dude, I feel the rant 100% and couldn't agree morr. Its an absolutely ungrateful pack of weasels, these dudes. My issue is, that this kind of toxicity totally kills the vibe for me. I have a pack of captures which is just sitting on my harddrive waiting for release, but... I just can't. I am so frustrated and annoyed by this attitude. Ironic thing is, some people I argued with actually found out about NAM through my video. Damn 😂 Anyway, cool podcast, like the format!

@@andrewdahlgren4350 After some quick googling it appears that the Tokai Dimarzio PAFs in these guitars are just that, they aren't advertised any specific model, so maybe they are their own thing? I'm guessing its a 59 as that would make the out sense as OEM part based on the price, but I'm just guessing. There is a couple threads on the Toaki forum asking this same question and it seems like a bit of a mystery. My best guess is that Dimarzio mad them for Tokai ands it's a model they already made but which on e exactly...Im not sure.

Thing about open source is it's free as in beer. Someone someplace is having to pay the bills. It's "free as in beer." And we all know beer ain't free. Even home brew has a cost. Someone's paying the bills. So it's difficult to take free riders seriously when they complain or make comments even. I'm not gonna call them haters because haters are malicious IMO. I'm loving my TJ and JHS Helix packs by the way. Happy to be a paying my way when and how I can.

I don't see the difference between buying profiles for NAM and buying them for my Kemper that cost me $1300. Do they think profiles should be pro-rated based on the price of the platform or something? Android code is open source, all Galaxy phones have to be free right? I already bought my house, so light bulbs from Home Depot should be free... I can go on forever. It doesn't work that way.

Hello! I’m only 25m and this is very much a discussion worth having. Maybe you get to this later, but I think it’s worth saying that laying out practical reasons that a company might make something free (eg. To sell me ads) is not itself a refutation of the moral claim that certain categories of things ought to be free. Let’s fight about it!
@ToneJunkieTV
@ToneJunkieTV Жыл бұрын
That's true...Let's discuss.... but no one is entitled to someone else's work. We aren't talking about air and water and things that are needed for life in which restricting access for people would be immoral. Nothing I spend my time making ought to be free, because I own myself and my labor so the fruits of that labor are also mine. If I make a product some one else thinks ought be free, aren't they saying that they have some right to my labor? to my autonomy? I may choose to make it free or I may choose to charge a price but no one else can be entitled to that. If someone thinks that because the plugin is free, I should offer what I make for it for free, that is an ethics questions not really moral one and I suppose that argument may have some merit, but as long as the thing people want for free is tied to someone else's labor, the moral position cannot be to compel labor for no compensation. That would be forced labor, which would definitely be immoral because it compromises someone else's autonomy.

@@ToneJunkieTV Oh, I absolutely agree that the people demanding that these profiles/captures/what have you is ludicrous. Laughable on its face. I also agree as long as we live in a world where things like water, food, shelter etc. asking me to produce your song for free is a non starter. And no one is entitled to my body or mind and thus my labors without my consent. (With the word consent somewhat loosely defined.) And the maker of the plug-in seems to be on your side, so…y’know…haters gonna hate
@carlostorres1171
@carlostorres1171 Жыл бұрын
@@ToneJunkieTV It is perhaps worth noting that the position that a given thing ought to be free at the point of service is not necessarily advocating that the providers of that service or good go uncompensated. Obviously it means that in this case, but it wouldn’t be an internet discussion if I didn’t bring up this related but clearly distinct matter. 😂

For me the most aposite point is that we are inclined to dislike the commercialisation of something that was released as a free product, but the reality is that nobody is being forced to buy anything. If I decide to pay someone for a profile/capture because they've invested their own time, money and expertise into creating something of high quality that's my choice. Just like it's my choice to download 10 different free profiles until I find one I like 🙂
