Glad I came across the video. I am primarily a guitarist who owned a Roland TD-6V kit back in the 2010s, mainly for band rehearsals at my home. My drummer was used to his much more elaborate TD kit with mesh heads, and complained frequently about the 6's gum pads, so I attempted a DIY mesh setup, only to create OTHER issues. Ultimately, I shelved the band and sold the kit. Fast forward, and I have a teen son who wants to play, and I wouldn't mind getting back into solo writing and recording. This set seems to fit the bill, almost perfectly. There seems to be several very usable kits in the set, and if I'm not happy with them for actual tracks, I can fire up my old copy of EZDrummer, and just use the internals for monitoring while tracking. Nice to know there's room for a double kick pedal like my old WD, and I know they make pad protectors specifically for double kick pedals, too. Additionally, I would see about adding a lower horizontal crossbar behind the kick trigger to stiffen the rack further and prevent the kick from walking away. Lastly, since the cymbals are dual zone, I know I should be able to run a splitter adapter, and add a dedicated, single zone ride trigger (I know you can trigger the right cymbal's upper zone for the ride. A separate ride is just a personal preference.). Aside from no China or cowbell (Ya always gotta have cowbell.), I see nothing else really missing. Thanks for making this vid!

Ekits have come along way in the last 20 years. The entry level ones now have some very serviceable sounds. This one I was shocked as to how good it sounded, especially the cymbals. Sounds as good as my Roland TD07 in that regard. It's a shame it doesn't record sounds over midi though.

Thanks, you’ve saved me. I was considering the Donner over Alesis because of the dual zone cymbals. However, as you pointed out, the sound was horrendous. @@abdullahbintajulkhusnam3269 yeah I'm really liking them. Full disclosure, I'm not a good drummer though! I'm a guitar player and I use these drums for recording and song writing. Out of the box there's no problems with them at all. They were easy to set up and feel solid enough. The mesh heads are decent. The snare is great. I would say the cymbals are better than the Alesis Nitro. I mainly use midi over USB, straight into my DAW, and I use the free version of SSD5. I'm super happy with them. My only minor nitpick is that the toms are fastened directly to the frame so they can only be angled up/down. But that's super minor. Overall for the money, these drums are great.

@demonicsweaters

Also, what DAW are you using? If it's Ableton, that's why your choke feature won't work in SD3 or EZD2. Any version of Ableton before 11 doesn't support aftertouch, which is what is needed for the choke feature to work on vst drum software. You CAN get it to work on Ableton 11 if you increase the gate time in your module. But the Donner nor the HXW have that adjustment.

I noticed with this module that instead of multiple single TRS cables going from the module into each pad, it's instead that weird old-school blue D-Type connector: a big snake that terminates with multiple TRS going into each pad. I can see it isn't expandable, which is a non-issue for me, but do you think this would pose any problems if I say wanted to upgrade that budget hi-hat to a real hi-hat stand with a floating trigger pad, like they have on higher end kits? It's like, literally besides the lower-end hi-hat structure, these are the greatest bang for the buck innovating cheap mesh kits ya know?
@revivedfears

It's actually very common on most entry level kits to use this kind of cable snake design. It does indeed limit their expandability. There's usually always one available input to at least add and extra cymbal.

Thanks for the heads-up on this one. I love the sounds, and the number of features that make it more realistic are impressive. It's too bad you can't create your own kits though! I'm a producer; I like to tweak each sound to fit the song, so unfortunately I don't think this is the kit for me. Maybe they can update the firmware, but at this price point, I doubt they will. Have you ever checked out TourTech kits? They seem perfect for me, lots of audio outputs and full DIN MIDI in/out. But unfortunately I can't find a distributor in North America, only UK...
