Patricia Routledge and Geoffrey Hughes were very good friends. She recommended him for the part of Onslow. I always felt, this scene was their way of breaking character, and showing their love for each other.

@@markg6860 I think Mark has it: as has been confirmed by Harold Snoad, neither are "in character" in this sequence; this is, effectively, Patricia Routledge dancing with Geoffrey Hughes. As Mr. G has kindly noted, they were Friends in actual life, which is highly evident here. Incidentally, Team, if anyone is interested in seeing the Genesis of the Hyacinthe character, conduct a KZfaq search for "Patricia Routledge" and "Kitty", a character written by the legendary Victoria Wood for her (equally legendary) sitcom "As Seen on TV".

Hyacinth was not a narcissist. That term gets thrown around far too easily these days. She was just a keeping up with the Joneses type. Hyacinth loved her family, and was on call to any of them any time they had a problem. She took care of Richard, she made an effort to keep a friendship with Elizabeth with no ulterior motive, and she adored Sheridan even when he wasn't making the choices she would've preferred him to. And although she was disappointed whenever she didn't get glory for her volunteer work with the church and the community, she still rolled up her sleeves and did it. A narcissist wouldn't do any of those things.

I’m just an old country boy that loves to hunt and watch The Andy Griffith Show in his spare time. I had never heard of English Comedies or Keeping Up Appearances for that matter until my better half introduced me to Mrs. Bouquet spelled Bucket, one morning about 10 years ago and been watching reruns ever since. The opening tune to KUA always sounded familiar to me and then it finally came to me. When I was a teenager, we had an old Hungarian widow that lived next door that I would do yard work for, and I always heard that tune through her screen door. It’s an unmistakable tune and it brought back so many memories when I connected the two. Anytime now when I’m home, and it’s a beautiful morning I’ll open up the main door and just let air come through the screen door and kick back to Keeping Up Appearances. I can sometimes hear that old Hungarian laugh when I’m watching. Anyhow this was one of my favorite episodes and was glad it was an hour long special. I always wanted to hear Patricia Routledge talk about making that scene with Geoffrey Hughes, RIP. I always liked him as Onslow. I bet he was comical in real life. I’m glad Patricia still stays active. Sad to hear that Clive Swift left us though. May they all enjoy candle light suppers in heaven.

This is one of my favorite programs. It was broadcast on PBS here in America and I don't think there's any episode that I did not see! My favorite scenes were when Hyacinth would "sing at" her neighbor's brother! Always had me rolling on the floor with laughter! Thank you for posting this little "teaser"!

Honestly this was so much fun, it reminds me of my posh grandmother on my dads side biting the bullet and having the dance with my down to earth gradfather of my mums side, classic

I absolutely adore this series. In fact, most of the comedy series I love the most come out of the U.K.

It actually warmed my heart when Hyacinth congratulated Onslow, and you can tell it was genuine. For all her bluster and social climbing, she truly does love and care for her family. But that doesn't mean she should acknowledge them in broad daylight :P

I don't normally laugh out-loud at anything that I watch, but the final line had me doing just that! Whoever came up with that one deserves a pat on the back, and perfectly delivered of course by Onslow.

This was the best way to end the series! I miss this show dearly. I wish this clip was longer.

Really cute humanizing scene for Hyacinth - all started from her sucking it up and doing the right thing

What a fabulous show! Every character in that show was perfect. The writing, acting and the theme made one of the best ever comedies in tv history. I still watch all the episodes and thoroughly enjoy them.

I think that's the signature moment in the whole series, when Our Hyacinth asks Onslow to dance. My dear grammie really enjoyed that scene.

This is one of my favourite scenes. So funny and unexpected 🤣😆 I could never understand it, so out of character for Hyacinth to get up, dance with Onslow and be pleasant to him. I assumed she had too much to drink or had lost the plot! It was sweet though too. It showed she had a heart and all that snobbery was pretentious.

I actually find myself getting emotional a bit watching this, and I'm not sure why 😂 . It's really nice to see Hyacinth cut loose and show some affection for Onslo, which didn't happen often. Good dancer too

Am I alone in tearing up a bit at this scene? Yes it’s funny and joyful, but it’s so rare to see Hyacinth just living in the moment and not considering the judgement or opinions of other people. For a moment, though fleeting, she is free of her pretentiousness and filled with love for her family.

Why is nostalgia so liberating? Whenever I view these clips..I can't help but smile. This series was such a joy to watch..it was just pure Fluff...but so satisfying. Onslow and "Richard" were perfect foils for the ladies. This was Epic British farce...thanks for the memories!!
