I appreciate that your songs touch on sorrow and on going on but also it not being easy. They are not one-dimensional i.e. they dont' focus on just happiness or just depression or even on simply getting over it nor it feels like they fall on the usual cliches of those 3 themes. They feel nuanced, real, sadly hopeful, cognizant of our own mental traps while accepting the uncertainty of it all

Man, when I first heard the preview I was just a tinge disappointed because I thought it would be a basic love song, though I'm sure Lily would've made it great nonetheless. Upon hearing this song though, oh boy, this is what I think truly sets apart lily compared to the MAJORITY of other music I listen to, the lyrics are so nicely and creatively put, the name for the song is perfect too! If I understand the lyrics correctly it's about having fallen out of love with one's previous self, and indirectly that lack of love only damages the present self. By learning to love one's past, is it possible to also learn to love the present? So good. This is what I bought lily merch for!! Thank you so much Lily and keep slaying!!

what I think is going on in the music video: the first section is all shots contrasting each other, like her looking at the photo on the right and the photo itself on the left. only the right side reaches her hand out into the gap, while the left side runs away. she's alone in the field because it's hard to accept love when you can't see what the other side is seeing. in the second section, each shot is a synthesis, working together. the left and right have "bridged" the gap, like her walking. we can see that the hands are coming together and she's joined by herself in the field. she's learned to shed away the shame and see the other side, loving herself. the images that flash on the manila paper look to be symbols that are important to lily. the clock is probably a reference to last cup of coffee, and the moon is probably a reference to dreamy night. and lastly, the title of the song is hyacinth. hyacinths are often called lilies (botanically not the same family), so when she's in the field, she's surrounded by hyacinths, or well, lily. it's her journey to be ephemeral, live with her flaws, and love again, and she will bloom, just like a hyacinth. we all will bloom 💜
