1. Battery replacement costs can be significant, and their disposal poses environmental concerns. Additionally, the manufacturing process of batteries contributes to water pollution. 2. If there's a power outage, charging stations will be ineffective, causing problems for battery-powered trains. 3.Batteries contain oxidizing agents, making them susceptible to fires. This poses a risk not only to human life but also to wildlife in forested areas. 4.For a 100 km route with a DC third rail system, around 10-15 substations might be needed as a rough estimate, especially when compared to a catenary system. Engineering studies would provide more precise figures. The third rail system generally requires more substations than the catenary system due to its lower efficiency. The construction of these substations could compromise the heritage value of the route and potentially harm the mountainous terrain. 5. If hydrogen trains are used, many of these issues would not occur. Hydrogen offers a clean and efficient alternative that doesn't necessitate frequent replacements or cause disposal problems like batteries. 6.Hydrogen can be produced using off-grid solar energy in places like Gujarat and other coastal cities. These regions benefit from both abundant solar irradiance and sea access, making them ideal for renewable hydrogen production. 7.Green hydrogen is also in demand by various manufacturing industries in India, such as those producing green chemicals. Producing hydrogen at scale for these industries could lead to economies of scale, thereby reducing the overall cost of hydrogen for train operations as well.

See this is why I get mad DID YOU EVEN THOUGH THROGH what u said ? 1)" Battery replacement " U DO KNOW that fuel cells and electrolyzer both also die and needs replacement regurally 2) NO one will use lithium-ion or lithium polymer in a train (Powerfull but fire hazard & short lived) its the reason in trains people select Lithium iron phosphate or lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) cells low energy dencity but fire safe and super long life span other things will fail in a train before it does 3) U will still need battery in fuel cell system and same voltage level too just low KWh is needed 4)"If there's a power outage" ever herd of Backup generator or battery backup or redundant connections that is why whole indian Railway & METRO works 5)third rail is DC it not AC whole system can run on only few substation I really hope u know DC goes far If NOT please for sake of INDIA google North-East Agra UHVDC why we use DC for long range energy transmission 6)" harm the mountainous terrain " how ? people not supposed to walk on it and hill are non living do u mean animals unless animal tries to get it self electrocuted no harm will come to it & TRAIN itself is a bigger harm 7)"Hydrogen can be produced using off-grid solar energy ".How bad are you at math in your mind lets not make solar farm feed power to battery and drive train its "better" to build a MUCH BIGGER FARM & waste most of the energy to make hydroge then physicaly transport it then convert it using fuelcells and then feed it to battery then drive the TRAIN 8)IT looks like you forgot what we use Steam reforming to make hydrogen out of Natural Gas all of worlds hydrogen comes for this (there are some edge case where electrolysis is used ) REASON its cheaper POWER is not FREE distilled water is not FREE by the time you pay for those expencive natural gas as feed becomes cheaper 9)Mass production is not magic yes whole world wants "GREEN" hydrogen ever wondered why its still stuck in WANT not HAVE ? we know how to do it from 1950s . basically we are waiting for natural gas prices to go up to much

The energy density of LiFePO4 batteries is lower, which leads to added weight. This extra weight increases rolling resistance and also impacts the vehicle's performance on inclines. While LiFePO4 batteries are generally considered safer than standard Li-ion batteries due to their lower risk of thermal runaway, it's important to note that they are not completely free from potential thermal events. 3. A hydrogen train's lower kWh battery requirement suggests it could contribute less to water pollution from battery manufacturing compared to a fully battery-operated train. 4. Using a diesel generator as a backup essentially contradicts the aim of transitioning away from diesel-powered trains in the first place. 5. While DC systems are generally more efficient at similar voltage levels, the DC third rail system operates at lower voltages than the catenary system. Additionally, it lacks effective cooling for the third rail, resulting in higher resistive losses. It also experiences more frequent wear and tear compared to the catenary system. Given these factors, the DC third rail system is less efficient overall. 6. Installing substations along heritage train routes in mountainous terrain could increase the risk of landslides and negatively impact the scenic beauty that attracts tourists in the first place. Additionally, while trains already pose a danger to wildlife, introducing a third rail system would heighten the risk of electrocution, leading to even greater harm to local animals. 7. Utilizing off-grid solar power is beneficial for battery-operated trains, but placing solar panels on the roofs of moving hydrogen trains could be even more effective in reducing hydrogen use. However, relying entirely on off-grid solar for battery-operated trains could be unreliable in adverse weather conditions, particularly in forests and mountains. While this issue can be mitigated with additional battery backup at charging stations, such a solution would increase operational and maintenance costs, as well as have environmental implications due to the production and disposal of more batteries. 8. Steam reforming is the predominant method for hydrogen production today, but rising carbon taxes are making it more expensive, which in turn is affecting the competitiveness of Indian steel in European markets. This has led the Indian government to shift towards green hydrogen for green chemical industries. Reliance Industries has also set an ambitious goal to reduce the price of green hydrogen to $1 per kg by 2030. With ongoing technological advancements, it's possible that the cost could drop even more quickly. Consequently, green hydrogen is poised to increasingly replace hydrogen produced from natural gas in the future.

Hydrogen train sounds stupid. We dont have hydrogen in first place. Electricity is only choice really & diesel in border areas with strategic reserves underground. Gadkari is madly bullish to hydrogen & biofuel with govt. money. He can create stupid debt problems with these ideas.

Overhead or third rail infrastructure cost at some locations is costly and sometimes not feasible due to geography. Setting this infrastructure could take up many years and huge cost. To fill the demand gap H2 FUEL CELL combined with batteries is good alternative. Given that India has largely electrified the infrastructure it makes sense to use batteries and pantograph to fill the short distance. However batteries are not suitable for long distance unelectrified sections. So H2FC can be experimented. Promoting batteries for train or cars is step towards more reliance on China supplied cheap batteries.My thought is India shall continue to experiment with H2 based Fuel cell or combustion technologies. Also there is huge market for H2FC or combustion technologies in heavy vehicles like trucks buses. Battery only = short distance, small vehicle, medium speed H2 = long distance, large vehicles, high speeds

U just made shit up again people have done the math it doesn't work. 3rd rail is much much cheaper as it's generally for low speed & low voltage & it can be installed wherever u have rails .the only reason hydrogen train is even a thing is because politicians to not get fired for wasting National resources like in solar roadway or hyperloop or hydrogen train.

Thanks for your time replying. I don't think Mainline railways would use DC 3rd rail due to safety reason. Unless the tracks are barricaded on both sides to prevent entry of human.

pure hydrogen always leaks no matter where its kept, even if you use an inch thick solid metal container it will leak as its the smallest and simplest atom.

​@@TheUltimateTrainJourneyin all my research nobody ever talked about using plastic which mostly is hydrocarbon as a hydrogen trap. The only thing that matches your description is solid metal halide powder. It works & it gives a very high density store how by weight is only 10% so you need hundred kg of metal halide powder to store 10 kg of hydrogen. And it will not change any of the inefficiency still involved in the system. Still a waste of money

Tata EVs already uses LFP batteries (Cobalt free and safe unlike NMC). Lithium sourcing will also get started within India. Hydrogen ecosystem is simply too expensive to be competitive... Almost all car brands around the world are skipping Hydrogen because no brand wants to get crushed by the competition

H2 trains will be profitable where traffic is low, where over head line will never pay back. Also H2 compression will be replaced by adsorption,absorption which are far more dense and far less energy hungry. New methods of Water splitting seem to have far lower energy consumption. H2 is a work in progress not a mature tech. What you say today about H2 had been said about battery last decade
