The hydroponic green beans are finally ready for harvest. They are so tasty! It was also time to prune suckers off the tomatoes and get our flower seeds started. We planted 400 seeds of all different kinds and colors in Oasis cubes. Katy figured out how to go from hydroponic to soil last year with her flowers, so we are doing that again and will show the process along the way. Stay to the end, because I about killed my bok choy I have growing in the basement. Hopefully they will make a come back. Leave us a comment if you have any questions. - Devon

Everything looks great Devon and Katy! Love the updates. It is nice to know that someone else is doing a lot of the same work every day that we do. Sometimes you can feel like you are on an island in this kind of work. This (hydroponic growing) is still relatively new. I have personally run into things that nobody has even heard of and have had to come up with my own solutions. It's really nice to find folks like yourself to bounce ideas off of! Take care and God Bless you and your families. Chuck & Darlene

Yay for fresh green beans 🎉 how awesome. I only had survived of green beans out of three when i had to transfer hydroponic systems. And excitedly I found a green been on it today. It’s finally starting to produce while the rest of the plants are starting to finally take off and start looking like growing plants. I put the tomatoes and basil in the same five gallon together and left everything else together in the bigger system and it’s doing great. I have to change the water tomorrow and add more nutrients and so excited for this growth in the hydroponics and just gardening overall. It always makes me ready to do more when there is any success as it just keeps a natural motivation to keep watching them keep growing. Thanks for another great video and update. Can’t wait to see the flowers bloom also

That's pretty good! I've killed some beans in my garden before and always have issues with ants eating the seeds before they sprout, so I'm excited to get some from the greenhouse. You'll have to let me know how your tomatoes and basil do in the same bucket. We usually have the tomatoes on the vine formula, and the basil on the lettuce formula, but haven't experimented giving the basil any thing else. Hope you have a lovely weekend! -Devon

Incase you have another oopsie like with the bokchoi get yourself a little mist bottle. Mist the leaves just a touch about every hour, it will all come back even stronger. When you forget to water the roots will force new growth which equals to more plant. Which is worse, skip a watering day rather than over watering?

Just found your channel - it's GREAT, thank you! I did the same thing with cucumber starts. They were just about ready for transplant. When I discovered my mistake, those cuc's where poorly - way wilted flat. My heart sunk to me ankles. I was trialing a new biostimulant growth product called Regenisys Organics and had some leftover mix on hand. I figured if those cuc's had any chance of reviving, it'd be a good test for the product [but I wasn't holding my breath]. I walked back into the greenhouse about an hour later and - BAM - those cuc's looked like nothing had happened. I was gobsmacked! Those cuc's ended up being the sweetest I'd ever eaten [a Japanese variety from Baker Creek]. Stay safe - be well - many blessings.

Thanks! I tried planting a second batch of Fortex in the garden last year, and they didn't do well with the August heat, but the first batch was good. Never as big as Katy's though. Are those chains on the wheels of the skid steer loader just for driving around in snow ? What happens if the fans ,which inflate the polythene greenhouse film layers, stop? Roughly many kilowatt hours does your greenhouse use each day in winter. Do you use more electricity in summer to keep things cool?
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 3 жыл бұрын
They are for snow and mud. Without them, it gets stuck easily. If the fans stop, the two layers of plastic covering loose air and deflate. Then they aren't tight around the greenhouse structure, and if it's windy they can flap around and tear. Also, we lose the insulation the air pocket provides. It'd be bad. I'll have to check on the kilowatt and get back to you. We use a bit of electricity in the summer to run the pump for the water wall in the back of the greenhouse and the louvers. Good questions! -Devon

@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 3 жыл бұрын
Yep these tomatoes will try to turn into a bush if we don't pull the suckers. The way that works for me is to start at the bottom of the stem and work up. The leaves are on the bottom and the suckers grow right on top in the crook between the leaf and stem, at least on these ones. I have cut the wrong thing before though lol. Thank you, the boys love helping out.

Hi There, just found your channel. Great content and well done. Not trying to brag but I have a pretty good knowledge base of hydroponics as it relates to cannabis but am l converting a 10x12 space in my greenhouse to veggies. We would like to grow a variety but want to use one reservoir. We would like to grow bell peppers, peas, beans, strawberries etc but i did recall u mentioning lettuce had to be in a separate nutrient mix and I suspect others as well. Is there any info available about nutrient blends that would work for multiple varieties of plants? I would gladly pay for this info. I use RO water with EC of 0 to start.
