So glad I watched this months ago or I never would've thought to try Kratky radishes. Grew them for my wife because she like radishes. And now I do too! Very mild taste. Some were so big, had a hard time getting them out of the 2" net pots. Grew them indoors with an LED grow light on full white, blue, red 12 hours/day and next to north facing window, no direct sunlight.

I just love it when the radishes radish 😆 I cook my radish greens in the instant pot. I cook my roast then add my veggies ( radish, potatoes, carrots, whatever else I feel like). Then I put the radish greens on top. Sprinkle with seasonings and cook 8 more minutes. I'd mix them in but my family aren't as in love with radish greens as I am.

Beginning Kratky person here. Noticed you grew from your seeds right in your setup and you added nutrients after sprouting. 1. Did you have any nutrients in there before they sprouted? If so what percentage (like 50% of what you would normally do?) 2. How did you keep algae out with all that ability for the light to get to the water (or did it not matter due to the short grow time). Thanks for the info! Ill be watching more of your videos!

@admangeezer7 жыл бұрын
radishes are great, but I think the best parts are when you let them go to seed! the flower "broccoli" or even the seed "beans" being a more prolific and mild radish flavor are the best parts of the plant, especially in a salad. great entertaining videos. Great vid Jeb. Question can i do the Kratky outside my little cottage where there is direct sunlight? Or do you recommend doing it indoors etc? Also could one grow Wheatgrass using Kratky?
@JebGardener8 жыл бұрын
Outdoors works great. Check out my broccoli video. I had some rain so i didn't have to water it once. If rain consistently overflows your tote you'll need to cover it during storms. The only real problems I think there are for Kratky is long term crops, so wheatgrass should work great. That's not to say it's the most cost effective method for every crop. I haven't grown wheatgrass, but I suspect if you look up some of the hydroponic fodder videos (people growing oat or barley sprouts for rabbits or goats) you might find a cheaper method.

Jeb Gardener what size totes are you using? I've watched a number of videos and read endless comments trying to figure it out lol. Do you have a rule of thumb for how many plants per X sized tote? I realize it would depend on what you're growing and how fast they take up water/nutrients. I just started my first radishes and spinach because of your hilarious and awesome videos.
@jefftangen67557 жыл бұрын
Did you continue to grow radishes after this ? I have been growing them in a similar system all summer under couple t12 lights and you just can't go wrong , I love the radishes so fast and way better than any store bought , not sure why but last few batches I didn't get any splitting out of the 24 they have been perfect ! Maybe temp change going into spring I keep my grow room as cool as possible normally and it's only up a few degrees. Great videos I just subscribed and hope to see more .
@JebGardener7 жыл бұрын
I haven't grown any more indoors because with all the rock wool it isn't really cost effective. Also they grow so easy outdoors it isn't really necessary until the summer heat. I want to try it again without rock wool to see if I can get that to work. Thanks!
@zilym7 жыл бұрын
I started with rockwool, tried coco coir, and eventually settled upon aged wood chips. Rockwool costs too much and doesn't seal up the net pots well enough to prevent evaporation. Coco coir isn't free either, plus it attracts fungus gnats to no end. Wood chips are free and since they don't wick up water so ferociously, I can keep the fungus gnats from getting too excited about it because the top of my net pots stay nice and dry.
