Heyy, quality content, I'll definitely try to setup a balcony type hydroponics system soon. Stringing can also be decreased by lowering your overall printing temperature, I see a range of 230-250 is recommended for PETG but you could even go to 225 to try it on a stringing test. Besides that retraction is also a good setting to tweak. Making retraction distance a little higher and/or making retraction speed higher

Great video! I recommend using a tempered glass bed, with hair spray applied beforehand to easily removed a high adhesion print. Also its best to keep the glass panel heated on the bed and using a spatula to slowly pry off the print
@fishmoding
@fishmoding 3 жыл бұрын
at 17:20 if youre using the CURA slicer you can turn on "coasting" which basically retracts the filament a little bit earlier than the end of the print line thing so that there is no filament coming out of the nozzle as soon as the line is finished. Either that or you can try turn down your temperature. Idk much about PETG but you could also try a temp tower to pin down your exact temperature.

Love this video. So many points that fit my interests with hydroponics and 3d printing. Thanks for sharing it all. I had a suggestion in regards to the wiggle room for the last print. If you drill your hole larger, as you mentioned earlier in the video for allowing more room for the roots, then you also don't have to worry about leaving that extra wiggle for off center holes as the extra hole clearance is now the wiggle room. Might help to keep them a bit more stable as they could hug the gutter tighter, which would be especially useful in the suspended system. Keep up the great ideas.

Hi Hoocho, I love your videos. They inspired me to start my NFT. I run a small 3D print farm (5 printers) at my work in a warehouse, so I think you shed is fine My experience is that water isn't as big of an issue as people make it out to be. I don't bother storing them in bags with desiccant and filament dryers are a waste of money. When printing PETG (and pretty much anything else) I find that temperature is the most important thing. PETG will clog up if its too cool or too hot. It's usually fine to print on the open frame printer in the day but you should consider enclosing that shelving to maintain the temp especially overnight. I have done it and it made a big difference. For your stringing issue you do need to increase the retraction amount. Download a stringing test model from thingiverse and do some test prints to dial it in. Put gluestick down on the bed to create a barrier between the plate and print. It's not for adhesion it makes it easier to get off. A bit of water will also break down the glue if it is really stuck too.
@AWildNoodle

Not sure if it is relevent anymore due to the upload date but combing is a method i use in cura settings to eliminate stringing on prints. combing basically makes the printer 'wipe' the nozzle by moving into interior geometry before retracting or going to its next travel point.

i found your channel because of your video about the tower grow system, I find PETG is naturally more stringy than PLA, retraction setting can help a lot use prusaslicer to edit your retraction setting there are good vids on youtube to help, but also use a heatgun and a scraper to easy-clean that stringing

For your retraction settings with PETG: Set your travel speeds as high as the printer can reliably/repeatably handle. I have my retraction/recovery speed set to 1200 & 600 mm/min, and the distance set to 6 mm with 0.1mm extra. I prefer to print most things on PEI. A razor blade rocking back and forth to get a spatula underneath can make for an easier removal.
@DemoniWaari
@DemoniWaari 3 жыл бұрын
Stringing is quite normal for petg but you can mitigate it with increasing retraction. All slicers should have a "retraction distance" somewhere there and you should start to increase that. Another possibility is moisture. If you get moisture in your petg then it tends to string more. One solution is to use a "dry box" for your filaments. Where basically you just have a box from which the filament is pulled from. The box is either heated or just has moisture absorbing bags in it. If you google 3d printing dry box you will find a lot of options, DIY or bought. Also a short blast from a heat gun removes strings pretty effectively.

The Hooch platform would work well with grow bags... bags are reportedly better for rooting than buckets are. No need for full solid bases either (less filament)- bags work because they "air prune" roots
@Typical-gamer-dad

To fix the stringing in your prints, you need to adjust your retraction. You prob want to add some retraction so there’s less filament when the nozzle head needs to move. Also, use glass on your print bed, and use hairspray to make it stick. Works wonders.

Hello, As I said in my first comment, the system seems interesting, but if I think it is original, I wonder what it can bring more to the simple NFT net pot. Personally, I grow my strawberry plants directly in 6.5 cm net pots. For some of them I use coconut coir, for others, clay balls or a simple net pot foam. All three supports give excellent results.

Regarding the stringing in your prints. Two things that i've found reduce/eliminate that is to increase 'Retraction Distance' as its called in cura (By small amounts), and recursively decrease the print temperature by no more than a couple of degrees at a time, until you find the bare minimum print temperature for that specific plastic type from that specific supplier.

Make clips or threads or something to make that piece removable/swappable. *Edited for clarity.

Have you had any issues with sediment/algae build up in the 3d printed parts? I've heard it can cause issues in the long run. I've had problems with stringing before - enabling retraction and retraction at layer change will help if it's not already enabled. Bump up the retraction distance by a few mm at a time and hopefully that should sort it :)
