No, the next few videos have them here and there. The one in the soil did best, still got lots of tomatoes off all of them. Going to do this again this year except with plants I start as seed. It is off to a very slow start :) Really had it up and running 2 or so years ago was getting tomatoes and everything then had a rough few years but trying to get it back up and going :) my biggest issue is not changing the hydro solution out :) I should have some lettuce and tomatoes up and growing soon though :)

@@KeepOnGrowin tip for dog that likes to roll in dirt. After washing him ans he is still damp, spray him down with horse show sheen aka laser sheen and let him dry laying on towel or rug. Make sure he doesn't lay wet on slippery floor or on bath tub or that surface will be extremely dangerous for fall risk cuz it will be coated with the lazer sheen. When the dog is dry, he will smell very good and the dirt will come off very easily. You will just have to brush him off with a soft brush and he'll look like you just bathed him. You'll thank me later.

Yes, there is a link for calcium nitrate and the epsom salt you can get at a drugstore.

I don't know, maybe the cardboard was too tight. Aphids are tough. If you are not using pesticide you have to watch close. Remove any part of the plant that is in fested. Blast the rest with a hose. Keep doing it until you get it under control. You can look for organic pesticides too.

Yes. But not always Solution Culture (Kratky, DWC, SWC) although I have done that too as you've demonstrated. Most of the time, I grow in a modified Drip System.

No problem. I het this question often. I am trying to show beginners the easiest way. Always better to go by the manufacturer's instructions. I have been doing it this way for 6 yrs. All of the plants in my videos have been grown this way. If you mix the dry together and leave it sit for a while, or days, the calcium nitrate will absorb moisture and turn hard as a rock that can't dissolve. I only mix right before I toss it in the water.

@@KeepOnGrowin Thanks for that. Indeed, I'm only basing that on advice the rep from the fertilizer company told me. And as you point out, they say not to store the fertilizer mixed with calcium nitrate as well. After starting with the MaxiGro product that does not require a second part, I just assumed I could mix it all together. However I'm thinking that perhaps the reason the MaxiGro is just one part is it does not have enough calcium nitrate to worry about forming insoluble precipitates when mixed with magnesium and phosphate salts when you mix it with water. So the formation of insoluble precipitates seems to be the consequence of trying to dissolve calcium nitrate in the presence of phosphate and magnesium. So I decided to do a simple test using a nutrient blend similar to what the MB w/ calcium nitrate mix is. I filled three measuring cups with RO water. In the first I put 1l, and in the next 2 I put 500ml each. Then to the first I added a dry nutrient mix of 1G of 7-11-27 fertilizer, .7g calcium nitrate, and .4g epsom salts and mixed it. In the next I added the 1G of 7-11-27, then into the third I mixed .7g of calcium nitrate, and stirred them. I then went back and added the epson salt to the 7-11-27. I then combined jars #2 and #3 into one. My resulting TDS were too high to read on both, so then I cut each with 50% RO water and measured again. In the first I had an EC of 4, and on the second I got an EC of 4.4. This would seem to indicate I got slightly higher dissolved solids in the second batch, and this was also indicated visually with the presence of some undissolved particles on the bottom of the first jar. My guess is then that either method of mixing will give you a working nutrient solution. However if you have the time, and want maximum efficiency (EG, maximum amount of dissolved solids), then you are probably best off to mix the NPK fertilizer in one vessel, and your Calcium Nitrate in another before blending them together. Anecdotally, in retrospect I think I noticed that the MaxiGro did not seem to dissolve as readily in water as does the 2 part mix I prepare now.

@@KeepOnGrowin Thanks again Mike, That little experiment was far from accurate in that it's pretty hard to get precise weights from a kitchen scale when you are dealing with fractions of a gram. Also, I just remembered that the meter was measuring a range between 4 and 4.4 on the EC, so in reality your advantage in dissolving solids in 2 parts could theoretically be as low as 1 or 2%. I also wondered if I had mixed with a wand blender the nutrient in first 1l jar would have dissolved better, or used water at a higher temperature. I was a good earning experience however, and I'm tempted to do it again with 5 gal of room temperature RO water where I could probably see more accurate results. Whatever they may be though, it would seem you would get less than a 10% advantage in terms of all your nutrient dissolving by using one method over the other.

The nft and soil did better than the kratky. The nft roots got too big and clogged my channel, lol. These were mature plants and although the kratky one did good, I think it was too old to transplant to that kind of system.

Thank you very much! That is red garnet amaranth. If you have amaranth, it will flower and look bushy like a feather duster. The seeds will resemble as small grain when they fall off.

TheClosedpalm I usually leave a plant out of one and just put an empty insert. That way I have a place to check and add nutrients. My small downspout with just 5 holes, I just lift up on it and can feel if it is almost empty. Like you said, just remove one plant and add through that hole. Not much of the roots have to be exposed when you first transplant them. As the level drops it will develop air roots, that's when you want to not fill it up all the way and disturb them.

Should I "water" them daily with the MB mix, or should I give them plain water every other day,? MB twice a week maybe? I don't want too much salt saturation in the bed. Valerie Sanchez : It’s To bad that you can’t make do with a 2 or 3 gallon bucket for what you’re doing. You know, I’ve been thinking about the same thing. Small women lugging around 5 gallons of water at a time is a bit of a recipe for injury. You know, if you’re mechanically inclined at all, you could actually have your 5 gallon bucket elevated slightly, and Bore a hole close to the bottom, on the side closest to it’s easiest access point. You could install a pipe with a valve that operates almost like spigot, so that you can pour off so much of your solution into a smaller bucket that’s easier to handle. You could use that same smaller bucket in several trips to replenish the 5 gallon. Another option is to use a siphon. They’re not hard to make, or for less than 20 bucks, you can pick one up. Even if all you had was one of those that are intended to pump water out of one of those huge plastic water carboys. You could at least syphon it into smaller buckets. They’re probably lots of other ways to do things that are probably more convenient, but that’s just what comes to my mind off the cuff, as I’m thinking about the same problem for my own self. What did you end up doing in the end to solve the problem? It might be a lot easier, more efficient, and less expensive than anything I’ve come up with, and I’d be grateful to know about those.

Hi, if you add fish to the bucket is call aquaponics and is different then hydroponics. May want to do research to see if the nutrients for hydroponics will harm the fish. I’m not familiar with how to do aquaponics.

Those shoots with the tiny leaves are runners. They will root and make more plants. Make sure the nutrient solution is not getting too warm.

Those are nasty little buggers. I trim the plant where most of them are and take it far from the garden. I try to knock the rest off. I have not had any success with the soapy water. If anyone has some suggestions, I would love to hear some.

Just means you have to keep planting more, as they only fruit for a short time. You can vine a determinate along your rail and let it hang down too,,,may help for continual harvest. Looking forward to your new vids and direction,,cheers Marty

@@KeepOnGrowin Determinate means they ripen basically all at the same time, indeterminate means they have no 'determined' fruiting period. It has nothing to do with whether they grow bushy or if you prune to single stem. But with determinate varieties, you would not want to prune to single stem for obvious reason that you are cutting off growth that will produce tomatoes.

Still taste like a tomato to me. I think there is nothing like a vine ripe soil grown tomato, however the hydroponic ones still beat the pants off of any you get in the supermarket.

I grow mostly leafy greens and a few root vegetables so I always have some of this mixed up. I just use it here too.

Di Cres I have harvested all of them, filmed them along the way and may do an update video. The one in the soil did the best, probably because they were already mature and producing fruit. Putting them in hydro shocked them. Still got a lot of fruit off of all plants. Going to try again in the Fall and start them from seedlings in the hydro. I actually bought these on clearance from a florist and wanted to see if I could save them and tried the different methods.

Trimming is usually ok. When they talk about damaging the roots, it usually means the entire root system suffers. If you trim healthy roots, they still work while new roots are growing. If all of the roots are bad, the plant suffers as it tries to grow new roots and may eventually die.
