I am gonna share my experience because this happened way too easily to me!! I have this right now because I first started my curly journey about 2 months ago, and I had super dry damaged hair at first. I didn’t know yet that my hair is fine and prefers protein more than moisture 😭 I washed every 3 days, used a moisture mask each time because of how chronically tangled my hair was, and I wet it everyday to refresh because I was amazed at how much curl I got when I wet it. But after about 3 weeks of that routine, it looks permanently greasy/wet and limp 😩 How I’ve been fixing it: Wash hair as little as possible (one week minimum). I use clarifying shampoo then regular shampoo (I use a protein shampoo). Not using any conditioner until my hair regulates! ~ after shampooing, I scrunch out excess water carefully then plop for the rest of my shower/skincare so it’s damp when I’m ready to style. I ONLY use mousse (praying hands method), scrunch, and then plop again (I would totally diffuse at this point, but I don’t have a diffuser yet) This routine has been helping so far, I hope it helps someone!

I find the issue with refresh day is that the product instructions typically say to apply to wet hair. Seldom have I experienced damp or dry applications instructions that work for me. Curly hair...cute but high maintenance!

Very! Hate to say, in some ways, more difficult to maintain than blowing it out! Especially when the “frizz” season ends. Love it in the summer, though. With enough gel, this frizzes much less than my blow dried hair (without a keratin treatment, that is).

I find constant brushing, constant blow drying to be FAR more damaging than wetting hair. I let my hair dry by itself in the summer. If it’s taking too long for my scalp to dry, I will quickly diffuse, just the scalp. I refresh daily if I go out. To refresh, I use a mixture in a 4 oz spray bottle of water with a tablespoon of my gel. My gel mixes with water easily and this way I use less water and it seals it immediately as it dries, which is always quickly. I only get hygral fatigue when I use certain leave-in masks. In general, the only Curlmith wash & condish products I like are the scalp detox shampoo and the the multitasking conditioner. I like most of the protein line, the protein leave-in is excellent when your hair is a frizzy mess and I use it to refresh, and the mousse is wonderful. I love the oil, very nice. While I don’t like any of the curl cremes, I am a fan of most of the gels, they’re all good for different things. I cannot tolerate the scent in the moisture line, it’s like a sickeningly sweet honey smell that’s not really indicative of actual honey. Glad they made a scent free line but I haven’t tried that yet. We just have so much money these days!

I love the Fytonix hair growth oil on my scalp as a pre-shampoo treatment. I also run it through my ends to dry detangle before washing. It’s worked wonders! My hair is waist length & healthier than ever!

Since I always wrap my hair up in a bun wet I think this might be me. I always thought keeping hair wet was hydrating or at least benign…

Hi Gena, I use a steam room and sauna usually twice a week at our local Turkish Baths. I think I may have been caring for my curly hair the wrong way. When I first started to go I didn't protect my hair either from the dry heat of the sauna or the moist atmosphere of the steam room. Then I decided to cover my hair with a plastic shower cap and towel. Sometimes I wet my hair before doing this. Sometimes I have used hair oil before putting on my shower cap and towel and sometimes I have used a conditioner and left on my hair. The length of time I am in the Turkish baths is up to 2 and a half hours. Listening to your video makes me realise that without knowing, I have probably damaged my hair! It certainly seems to have thinned since going to the Turkish Baths since February this year which I actually thought might be due to my diet. What advise can you give for caring for your hair in a sauna/steam room to look after curls. Thank you :)

Gena, You’ve sponsored several different curl products and I’m just embracing my curly hair, I’m confused. Which product do you really recommend. Thank you for your videos ❣️
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 2 жыл бұрын
I would not show products in videos that I don't recommend, whether it's sponsored or not. 😊 Everything I show are products I would purchase myself. I show a variety of different brands so that everyone has options for what works best for them, their budget, and availability in their country. I would need to know more specifically what you are looking to purchase, your hair type, and needs to be able to pick certain products.

Hi Gena. I really love your content and it helped me and my sister a lot. I have generally healthy hair and my hair curls well even without product....it just doesn't hold haha. My hair is more coarse since its a bit thicker. I usually balance protein and moisture well. My hair isnt stringy but does get frizzy. My hair doesn't seem to be suffering from hygral fatigue yet but I am worried it might because I am getting it more wet. However, I'm also on a budget. Are there any pre-poo oils that are cheaper that you recommend? In addition, are there any cheaper dry shampoos that you recommend since I also workout a lot. I fully refresh only once a week and can go 7 days between washes. But i need to refresh somehow after working out. Can sweat Also cause hygral fatigue and how can I avoid that?

Hi Gena, I’m using LUS products, any opinion on those? I am so confused at what my hair type is. After I put product in my hair it looks great when it initially dries but several hours later it seems to lose the shine and then the bottom frizzes. Any suggestions?
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 2 жыл бұрын
The LUS shampoo & conditioner are great, but the styling products don't provide enough hold. I end up with frizz the next day. The new gel they have is nice but I can only use it in the winter unless I layer it with a stronger hold gel.

What is a refresh? Is it a shower?
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 2 жыл бұрын
Refreshing is touching up your curls without washing them. Most people like to spray their hair with a spray bottle just to dampen it some, and add a little more product where needed.
