I went to the vet to check blood + urine for my 16 year old boy cat. It costs $600. That's just diagnostics-- still don't know why he is in pain, let alone how to treat it.

Will just changing the diet alone by removing iodine from their food be helpful? I started making my cats food using organic chicken and organic hamburger supplementing with essential oil and calcium from dried chicken egg shells and mixing with organic pasture raised eggs. I see videos online of people who make their cats food and they add several supplements like taurine but I read cats get taurine from dark turkey meat and eggs so do you need to incorporate the supplement as well? Would greatly appreciate your input as I am really struggling with what to do about my cats hyperthyroidism I started giving them the thyroid support gold which seems to be helping I just don’t know if it’s lowering the thyroid numbers.

Thank you for this video my cat is 7 and had some symptoms of overactive thyroid but the values after her blood test were not through the roof so we are going on the YD food and seeing how that affects her numbers. Also cute cat and vet 😏 😂

My kitty had Hyperthyroidism and I tried the cream and it was not only very expensive but it began to cause sores on my kitty's ears so watch out for that. I had to go back to the pills. Thank you Dr. Lera for the video and information.

Great video. I was under the impression that dry food diet would most likely cause it vs wet food? I know wet food is suppose to be healthier for them.

If Your allowed to Crush pill into powder form add it to turkey baby food and insert non needle syringe into mouth they all love the baby food...easy as loading the syringe with Meds and babyfood been doing this since 1990 never does any cat Refuse this method...lol

Cost us £3,007.70 I don't have that kind of money, but I'm glad I have my sisters to help. I'd rather my money go on my furry little babies anyday. The only problem is it takes a full month to be able to properly be with her. They kept her there for two weeks, now we have her for the last two weeks. It's so hard to keep her contained, she just wants love and attention. We got told that she'd still need checks, evem though it's cured her.

My cat has 3 times the high end of normal for thyroid values. I brought him to the vet for the same issues (vomiting, eating too much too fast) two years ago and the values were normal but now its very bad. He doesnt like human food and has always preferred dry food and wet food makes him refuse to eat. I asked the vet if it was ok to crush the pill and dissolve it in water then give him the shot on the side of the mouth aimed upwards. He said it was ok and it is much more effective and easier than trying to stuff the pill down his throat. If the medication is an instant release type (like Felimazole) than its not a problem and if pill pockets with their favorite foods isnt an option than i strongly suggest you try it. After the first couple times you can see how much liquid you need to make it work and usually ends up being a 0.8-1ml shot each time.

Any thoughts on DIY treatment? My cat is 18 and absolutely showing symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Also, upon palpating her anterior neck, I did find what feels like a 6-7mm nodule on the mid right side of her trachea which according to what I looked up on feline anatomy, could correspond to her R upper thyroid maybe. Since it's not a bilateral feature, I thought maybe it's not the trachea, although it is quite hard. I also thought it was likely related to excess iodine and sure enough, found research that suggests this. Fish and seafood likely culprit, but also thoughts on this are that toxins from cans, farmed fish, etc, can contribute. I've been feeding my cat the same brand of (ridiculously expensive) pouch wet food that contained fish as well as a variety of other animals, grain free, but after beginning to research this, I recently saw that potassium iodide is an ingredient in that food. So I've taken her off that, and off treats with fish, and actually in a few days she does seem a bit calmer, but she is so used to fish that I have to gradually move her onto just poultry and beef, and eventually want to just make her food myself. The issue for me is that I don't have the funds to get her examined with blood tests and the medication. Do you have ANY suggestions for what cat owners can do with just food in this case? I would very much appreciate that point of view! Thanks so much.

in june we will be getting our cat recheck on her thyroids because they were little on the high end of the normal range on her chemical panel . i guess there is advanced thyroid blood work an that is what ill be having done in june on our kitty.

It is normal for the cat to lose large clumps of fur when on this medication? My senior cat has a bald spot on his side and down his leg. It started out of the blue. He has been on Methimazole for a couple of months. I was giving him the liquid form and have just now ordered and received the transdermal clickdose formula but have not started it yet. Will it cause the same hair loss as the oral medication? Thanks so much!

Should one hold off on I 131 until we have them on meds and to recheck kidney function? If they do have kidney disease is it easier to manage kidney disease with the adjustment of thyroid meds? Would this method eliminate the need for sub q fluids?

My cat has been hyperT for 2 years now. Taking the pills. But I find the easiest way to give it is crush it into a bit of wet food. Once that is gone, he gets the rest of his meal. He does not even notice the medicine. To add to symptoms mentioned here, my kitty was drinking more water and peeing more than usual. At first I thought he might be diabetic. But I am glad that was not the problem. hyperT is much easier to treat.

My cat was diagnosed 3 wks ago.... she was put on the ear meds. She stopped eating and drinking...and howled constantly. She never howls. To top it all off, I'm almost totally bed-ridden with a neuro-muscular disease. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I stopped the meds to see if she improved....and she is back to how she was pre-meds....however, her thyroid #'s were extremely high, like 2000 I think? HELPPLEASE?
