In this part 3 of the endocrine system, we take a look at the differences between hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Both of these are issues with the body's uptake and use of glucose.
In the first part, we take a look at hypoglycemia and talk about what that really means for the body. We talk about the causes and those subcategories as well as the mild and moderate/severed signs and symptoms that we'd expect to see in our patients. From there we talk about how to diagnose our patients with this and finally the treatment options that we would utilize for these patients.
We then move on and talk about hyperglycemia and start to talk about some of the associated risk factors and changes to mortality that we see in our patients as a result. We cover the causes for hyperglycemia and begin to talk about diabetes, which we will cover more in-depth in the next lesson on DKA vs HHS. Finally we do a quick overview of how we would be managing these patients in the ICU.
Hopefully by the end of this video, you will be able to identify the differences between hypo and hyperglycemia in your patients and that you will have a better understanding of what is happening with each of these in our patients bodies.

Videos like these save lives when doctors aren't reliable. I swear I have to have this. My dad has diabetes and high cholesterol and my mom high blood sugar. I used to eat bigger than my stomach when I was younger and still do sometimes because I feel so hungry. It's so weird. It'll feel like I haven't eaten for days and my stomach will be burning even though i had my last meal right before I went to bed and then wake up hungry. I also drink more water than my entire household and have been told to drink from the tap as opposed to the bottled water because I consume so much. It's also weird how sometimes all of my symptoms occur because Im dehydrated even tho I'm drinking buckets.

I have both hyper and hypoglycemia, I am more on the hypo side because I get low a lot but I am learning how to regulate my sugar levels with eating at designated times during the day. one night I woke up with a horrible stomachache and tested my sugar because sometimes when I get low I have stomach pains but when I tested it, it was at 240, which had never happened before. Anyway I am doing much better with only having a low 1-3 times a month whereas before it was every week.

I’m so confused- my dr said there’s no test for hypoglycemia. I’ve been having symptoms for years and she’s not even advised how to treat my symptoms outside of eat something when I feel lightheaded or drowsy. But I was told there’s no test or treatment. I’m a little upset right now knowing I could possibly have not needed to feel like this so long. I get very lightheaded and confused throughout the day and get what I call “hunger headaches” and now I’m seeing I have a lot of moderate symptoms. Officially going to a different doctor 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh god I was so close to the next ride to the hospital then 💀 I was so messed up today and completely faqed up an order, my boss wasn't mad at me but I still felt like crying. I was eating gummy bears all afternoon and would sometimes feel a moment of clarity. After work I drove to the grocery store and ate a banana in the parking lot. When I finally came home I gingerly measured my bs levels... 65 bruh... One hour after eating whole wheat noodles and downing a liter of fanta I had 90.
