This is part 2 in this series on the endocrine system in which we will be talking about Cushing's vs Addison's. We will be covering all the ways in which they are similar but more importantly, all the ways in which they are different.
We start the lesson off with a quick review of the pathway for corticosteroid production as a review from the previous lesson. We talk about the hypothalamus releasing CRH to stimulate the pituitary gland to release ACTH and this stimulating the adrenal cortex to release its hormones.
From there we start talking about Addison's disease. We cover what it is, its causes, the patho, how we diagnose and finally the treatment for it.
Next we talk about Cushing's syndrone, again talking about what it is, its causes as well, the different patho, and the diagnosis and treament for this one.
Lastly we conclude things with quick comparison of the difference between these 2 side by side and help you to be able to distinguish one over the other as well as some advice to help you remember what is happening in the disease process with each particular disease.
At the end of this lesson we hope that you will have a much better understanding of these 2 processes and to be able to recognize the difference in these in your patients as well as to give you the knowledge of what to look for and how to treat them.

Anterior pituitary! The way I remember this is simply remembering the mnemonic TP FLAG. T - TSH, P - Prolactin, F - FSH, L - LH, A - ACTH, G - GH. Then I just remember that the posterior portion secretes oxytocin and ADH (vasopressin).

To simply remember the posterior I remember After(post) you to pee(adh) you're happy(oxytocin) Then remember everything else is anterior

Thank you guys so much for watching! Please leave us a like if you enjoyed the video. We truly do appreciate it! Also we love hearing your comments so feel free to tell us what you think of the video. We hope that after this lesson, you will have a good understanding of the differences between Addison's disease and Cushing's syndrome. These are two disease processes from a dysfunction within the same endocrine system pathway, but they are quite different from one another based on the type of dysfunction that they represent. This is awesome inaturopath. Thank you! I'm pretty sure my niece has close to addisons but it's hard to find a medical professional that will check for adrenal issues unless you are already at the extreme of Cushing or addisons. Naturopaths seems to be the only ones where we live that will test for adrenal issues but unfortunately most insurance won't cover naturopaths.
