Very nice and good video my friend. I have a G4FA in my KIA C'eed SW 2010 year, luckely no problems yet, just interested in the technique. Last year checked the chain tension, all good. The end of your video sounds like my engine, so pretty positive with 188000 kilometres passed. You're a master.

Beautiful video. You are very good at explaining things in detail. But I did not understand in passage. When you saw that the marks between the exhaust and intake camshafts were not aligned, you unscrewed the exhaust camshaft. Then you stopped recording to free your hands and when you resumed recording the marks were aligned. How did you turn the camshaft with the chain engaged?

Hello, could you please help me with some information? My car has exactly the same engine. Code G4FA 1.4 gasoline 109hp. Is this normal? At 07:25, I noticed that at one point the timing chain became very loose and then tight again. Is this a problem? Is it the worn chain or the tensioner? Here's why I'm asking: My car was left unused for 9 days while I was on vacation. I needed to change the oil and filter as it had been a year. So, I started the engine to let it warm up, but it seemed noisy, and I could hear the chain even after it warmed up. The engine runs smoothly and has no errors. I changed the oil and filter, but the engine sounded the same. So, I checked the timing chain. I inserted my middle finger through the hole where you pour oil into the engine and could touch the timing chain. It was loose; I could move it with my finger and could hear the noise. I drove the car for 30 km. I turned off the engine, and after 2 hours, I checked the chain again. Now the timing chain was tight and didn't move at all. I checked it again a few hours later, and it was still tight. The next morning before starting the engine, I checked the chain again. Now it was just slightly loose; I could move it very little. I started the engine, let it run for 20 seconds, and then turned it off. I checked the chain, and now it was tight; it didn't move anymore. Is this normal? Do I need to change the timing chain? The engine has 150,000 km (93205 miles). That's why I'm asking if it's normal for the timing chain to become very loose at 07:25. Again, I don't have the errors from the video. The engine runs okay. Thank you.

Thanks for watching our channel. If for any reason the timing is out or the timing chain has jumped one or two teeth or becomes loose, the entire kit must be replaced.

"So am I to understand that if the chain is causing the 07:28 issue, the distribution must be worn out and needs to be replaced. Is that correct?"@@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak

Thanks for watching our channel. This one, which i used called Autodata here in the UK and can be accessed on the monthly subscription basis, which is currently priced £75 per month, second option is to get the workshop service manual from the auto part supplier or from Ebay or amazon.

I am now exactly in the same situation with my Kia Ceed 2007 motor G4FC, and I'm going to do the repair through the service hole without taking off the timing chain cover. I was wondering how can you be sure that the crankshaft timing mark is aligned with the coloured timing chain link down there even when the crankshaft pulley mark is aligned with the timing chain cover 0-position, because you can not see down there? Second question: How did you actually do thel camshaft sprocket marks alignement? Lifting the timing chain and then turning the intake camshaft to the right position, or how...?
@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak
@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching our channel. First you need to bring the crankshaft on to top dead centre then you must lock the tensioner plunger in the retracted position then you will be able to disengaged the timing chain from the camshaft sprocket and align the timing marks on the cam sprockets. If the crankshaft pulley is installed the chain will remain engaged the crankshaft sprocket but if the crankshaft pulley is removed, then you can remove the crankshaft front seal, removing the seal will give you enough visibility to see the timing mark on the sprocket and align the timing on the crankshaft sprocket encase the chain is disconnected from the crankshaft sprocket timing chain make sure the chain remains engaged in the crankshaft sprocket. If the seal is removed it must be renewed. To get able to re adjust the valve timing, first, the chain tensioner plunger must be in retracted position locked. I check the service manual before i do every task , for this task i am not 100% sure if i can remember correctly i think there is a thick spacer between the crankshaft pulley and the timing chain sprocket.

@@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak Thanks for your quick response and advice! I got the job done, but not quite the way you described, because the service hole was so stucked and rusty that I did not managed to open it with hexacon 8 mm socket and frost liquid and CRC Rost Off, unfortunately the angles were eventually rounded and so the plug was lost. So I was in situation that I might have to take the timing chain cover off, which is a lot of work. But, luckily, I found a way to solve the problem and just by pure luck. I'll tell you how: I was in the TDC position and exhaust camshaft was aligned with the mark but the intake camshaft had jumped one chain link onwards. So, I turned the crankshaft a little bit backwards and because of that the chain raised up a little bit on the intake camshaft sprocket tooths, just like it was going to disengage but did not do it completely, so it was loose. Exhaust side did not move at all. And at that moment I managed to slide the intake camshaft backwards one chain link to the right position. And I was suprised and happyyyyy.... I checked the timings a couple of crankshaft rounds and all seem to be good. I started the car and it worked well. And the trouble code P0016 was also gone. Help yourself using that trick also if possible. 🙂 I'll tell you a little bit of backround to this episode: I had a burned exhaust valve, so I had to repair it and changed all the valves at the same time because they were wered out. I haven't done that kind of repair ever and I'm not pro but eager to know what is inside the engine. So eager, that I also did some valve cuttings and porting of exhaust and intake canals, just for fun and for experience to my old Kia 350 tkm, no harm done if going to fail. But during the reassemble I somehow managed to lost the timing and I dont know how. I then got the P0016 code when started the car, I then checked the CMPS and OVV sensors and they were working, CKPS I did not check. So I had to dismantle again and saw the timings and I found the situation like in your video and you showed the way of doing it through the service hole without taking the timing chain cover off and that was helpful. Thanks again!!

@@hapatuska Your post was so helpful, I can't thank you enough. I was in exactly the same situation, except I could get the tensioner plug out, but not push it back enough to get a pin in to lock it. So I tried your method of producing enough slack on the inlet sprocket and eased it round 2 teeth. I've now got everything back lined up where it should be, and will build it back up with fresh oil tomorrow and see if it's worked. Really helpful, thanks again.

Wtf mate. You can.t leve the timing like this. You think about valves if is bented or not? That timing is jumped from the marks. When you have issues like this you need to check the vlaves(compression test) if is bented and is mandatory to replace tensioner , guides and chain if is not bented the valves😡😡😡
