Seconding green autos here, theres an argument to be made for the 2018 leaf but the 17 doesn't compare and as has been noted the active thermal management system is the clutch.

Yes, but its then more accessible and easier to reach with short DC charge cables. I've had vehicles with both front, rear and side charge ports and fronts are far better. You often can't park on the right side of the charge and its only front ports that sometimes are close enough.

@@GoGreenAutos Charge ports on the front are not so good if you happen to have a front end shunt with the possibility not being able to open the charge port or even worse to be totally damaged.

Its something you get used too. I used to favour front charge ports and as my early EVs had those. But then after driving Ioniqs and Teslas for the last 4 years, I'd favour a rear side port now. It has also the advantage of working at a Tesla Supercharger (see kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btWWpLFlkse1ZoE.html) where the cables are short and designed for that port location.

The onboard AC charger is single phase and 6.6kW/30A. On DC, it charges up to 69kW (if there charger supports that).

I would say the Ioniq has the slight edge. The Soul is mighty impressive in terms of ride quality. Possibly its slightly more firm and engaging. But the Ioniq is setup for slightly more comfort and is excellent. Both are better than the Leaf & Zoe in these respects.

If in the UK, get Cleevley EV Mobile to come to you to service. I think its about £180, which if so, its about the same as a main dealer service but for more convenient.

Very easy. All done on the touch screen. No app with the 28kWh Ioniq. It works well, however preconditioning only works if the car is plugged in.

@@GoGreenAutos why does it have to be plugged? Maybe hard to answer but nowadays everybody wants to be able to preheat before you reach the car so one can easily take off… So now one has to turn on the car and then turn on the heating I guess. Well… one can’t get everything

@@GoGreenAutos Hi Matt, we're unlikely to be able to plug in at home, at least at first so my question is this... I would like to be able to set a timer to defrost the windscreen and warm up the interior, when you say "preconditioning" is it this that it cannot do if its not plugged in? I'd been given to understand that this is called "preheating" whereas "preconditioning" is the car warming up the traction battery ready for charging, I believe. Be a shame if it cannot do the former as that is what I'm looking forward to most, no more ice scraping in the freezing cold! If this is what you meant then I shall contact our Green local Councillor who assures me that a charger will be put into our designated parking area if and when it's needed. In our case that will be autumn '24 so I'll be in touch around then to see if you can get hold of one of these for us I think.

If the 28kWh is within your budget, go for it. Its an excellent EV. The 38kWh gives you more range and a larger infotainment screen, but apart from that, its very similar.

Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty with 5 year roadside assistance. The traction battery is covered for 8 years/125,000 miles. However, you better check if there's an exclusion for taxis, as I have a feeling there is.

@@GoGreenAutos Acknowledged Matt, seems a retrograde step from Hyundai to drop the roadside assistance after year one for newer cars. Similarly Renault started with a 4 year warranty, then 3, now 5, it's no wonder buyers get confused!

That is a valid point for those scenarios however I drive all sorts of EVs and would always favour a front centrally mounted charge port as the cables on rapid chargers can be too sort to reach of the port is on the side. The trouble is you can't guarantee you can park on the ideal side of the charger to suit your car.

I've done many videos about battery life in the Ioniq, see kzfaq.infosearch?query=ioniq Our own Ioniq (the blue one in this video) now has done over 100,000 miles and the battery is still at 100% SoH and I've proved this is correct and the usable capacity is still the same size.

I will go through the back catalogue on your channel. I am really interested in whether you have a video on how you charge, home v rapid, that tolerance bands you use (20 - 80%) etc.

@@arangeofevs973 Not done a video on charging as you really don't need to worry about it. Just charge the car when you're not using it (for most that's while you sleep) and it charges to 100%. When on a trip, if you need to rapid charge it, then charge to 80-90%, but its fine to charge to 100% if you need it, but it takes longer so can be a waste of your time. A lot is said about looking after the battery and only use 20-80% but the reality is that it makes such a little difference, it's not measurable (and I've had many EVs with with over 100k miles too). The battery's BMS (battery management system) does this job for you, so you don't need to do anything other than plug it in. If it was a Tesla, then yes it would be different, but then they give you different battery controls to allow this limitation in charging. Every other EV, you just plug it in and walk away and not give it a thought. The pack also does a cell balancing routine when at 100% charged and charging on AC, so it needs to be charged to 100% to do this. I've seen vehicles where people don't do this, thinking they're doing the best for the pack and it can have a detrimental effect.

Insurance is a very personal thing, so it's difficult to make broad comments about it as there's so many variables. We've found insuring our Ioniq to be very reasonable.

@@GoGreenAutos question though… I am glad to hear the good news about charging routine for this battery. But how is it if the car stays at 100% for a few hours before I go to work? For example, I am currently charging outside my house now and the car says that it will be full in 5 hours at 03 am ish. This means that it will stay at 100% between 03-07:30 , that’s 4,5 hours. Is this ok?

@@AzizIzgin Yes that is perfectly fine. All you have to do is not leave the battery at 100% charge for long periods of time, like many days or weeks.

No they don't do one. But for be honest, I don't miss it. They're a bit hit or miss anyway.

@@pavici Air cooling is sufficient and does the job.....particularly well in the Ioniq has these have great lasting packs. I've done videos on this channel about the battery life in the Ioniq. The majority of EVs have air cooling. Knowing which have water cooling is pretty difficult as the manufacturers don't tell you (or get it wrong!), so it requires looking underneath and taking the protective panels off. Or having two water bottles in the front is often the tell tell sign.
