I just installed the steering coupler in my 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. I have watched 100's of FYI video's on Facebook and you could not have made this video easier, less intimidating and visually clear. I have watched many Chris Fix and Scotty Kilmer video's who have million's of followers and thought they were the best. You have set the bar extremely high...

This saved me $600 bones... the video was so easy to follow,step by step. My boyfriend had to help me with a bolt or two, but I'm a 4'11" 55 year old lady able to do it in 5 hours. His mechanic had previously done this repair and charged him $2000 aussie, said he had to change the whole unit out with second hand one, but explained to me that there is a rubber coupling that breaks!!! It took me just over 3hrs to fix including getting the part which the Hyundai parts centre gave me for free!! I couldn't have done it without your clear, concise instructions! LEGEND !!! I have never done any work on my own vehicle but I have watched a thousand tutorial videos on "diy" things and let me say... I was super impressed with this guy! He was very clear and precise with his instructions without giving a ton of useless information. I hate when someone keeps stopping to tell you little personal stories that they are reminded of and you have to wait through all of that nonsense to get back to why you are watching the video in the first place. He does none of that! He shows every step as he's explaining what he's doing and I had no trouble following his guide... I absolutely think this gentleman goes above and beyond! Even giving you helpful hints on how to remember radio station pre-sets for your customers. It's the little things that really show you pay attention to detail and care about doing your job correctly. The best by far though... The encouragement he gives at the beginning of the video, so you're not intimidated by the task at hand. It was top notch advice on how to fix this issue on your own and I will recommend his videos to everyone that may need this type of help! This man saved my $600. It took me anywhere from 1-2 hours for complete process. The hardest part is to get that 14mm bolt out and then to put it in, else everything was easy. Thank you once again.

Great video. I noticed a clunking in the steering column area that got considerably worse lately. Looking under the steering column it didn't feel like the universal joints were loose and it sounded like it was coming from above the high joint so I wasn't sure what it was. This was the first video I looked at after searching on the internet and it was exactly what I needed! Thanks for the very detailed description, made this job a breeze. Now I should be good for another 270,000 miles (can anyone beat that?)!

What an excellent video! Very detailed, great camera work!! Going above and beyond to program back the radio stations just shows how much you care about your customers! I thought that I had to replace this part on a 2008 Elantra but the problem ended up being the 2 bolts at the steering column U-joints - the one down on the floor and the one up just below the EPS assembly. Both bolts were loose (had to turn them more than a full turn to get to the specs of 25 lb/ft). Once I did that the small clunking sound and play in the wheel was gone and the car tracked much better in a straight line on the freeway. The bolts being lose even threw a C1259 code about the steering sensor. Anyone having a small clunking sound and wheel play - check those bolts first before you go any further.

Very useful video. I appreciate you taking the time to create and share this. For us, a call to a local Hyundai confirmed that there is a special extended warranty on this part. Hyundai acknowledged that there was an issue with this part. So it might be good to check there first. And if not covered, this video is great to do the work yourself.

Excellent guide… can’t recommend it enough. Extremely thorough with no steps missing. I have a right hand drive i30 2012 manual gearbox and everything was the same except I had to unbolt three nuts holding fuse box so I could make room to remove main bolt holding steering column.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! You really saved me some money and it was such an easy fix with this tutorial. Tip to anyone that’s gonna do the same thing, when your putting the column back into place just barely put on the two washers holding it from the top. You really need the wiggle room from the front to be able to realign and put the longer bolt holding the back.

Thank you so much for a very informative video. To note, I just did this on a 2012 Elantra GLS 6 Speed Manual and there were a few differences. 1. No knee airbag 2. There was a metal brace plate where that knee airbag would have been, a few 10mm bolts and one 10mm nut to remove it. 3. A few more connectors on the wheel that had to come off (pretty self explanatory once you get in there) 4. I took the bolts out of the seat to move it back, couldn't fully remove it as there were airbag connectors under there as well. Couple of notes. 1. You will definitely need longer than a standard 3/8" ratchet driver to remove that back bolt for the steering column. The head likes to round if not perfectly straight and takes quite a bit of "ugga duggas" to remove. 2. You definitely need a second person to help line up the tab into the slot as well as attach the nuts to reattach the column. The piece that the bolts press into (to reattach the column) also can slide, so make sure you have it slid back far enough to match the bolts. 3. Some other videos show removing the brake switch, I did not need to do that for my application. The hardest parts were 1. Removing the bolt from the back of the column 2. Lining the tab and bolts up to reattach the column 3. Finding the right angle to get the bolt back in the back of the column. Take your time, relax, and you can do it. I wouldn't recommend if you're claustrophobic as it gets a little snug in there with the column and 3 pedals.

I fixed this problem using your video and it was the most helpful one out there, the bushing cost me $1.34... from the dealer. One of the auto parts stores wanted $23 for the same part. Couldn't have done it without your video I am sure.

I think my wife is now your biggest fan, she walked in right as you were saying to write down the radio stations. She said "Wow, that is SO nice! I like him!" Great tutorial, and even though my 2011 Elantra is slightly different in the wiring connections and lack of the airbag, I was able to get it figured out without too much trouble. And letting us know what tools we will need before starting work was fantastic. Thanks!

Hands down the best video to watch for this project! I just replaced my coupler and I was able to do it by myself and it took a little over 3 hours. I struggled to put the big screw back in, my suggestion would be to unlock your steering wheel adjuster if you accidently locked it in the process. Other than that everything went great. I just subscribed, thank you!

Just performed this on a 2013 Elantra GLS. The back pivot bolt is a monster. Had to muscle it loose at the risk of bashing my knuckles against the column. Putting it back in is equally challenging. Good tip about threading the front two bolts in first loosely so that you have some wiggle room getting the big boy (in the back) back in. Overall, nice video and excellent instruction. For anyone about to tackle this, allow yourself plenty of time and stay patient. It is doable by ANYONE and you'll wind up saving a cool $300 in labor.

Great video, clear and concise. I would not have attempted this job without it. It took two of us about three hours to do it from start to end working on a 2014 Kia Forte. The most difficult parts was getting the cross bolt to thread AND getting the steering column back in position hooking the tab into the support bracket. Other than that it was fairly straight forward and was a savings north of $500. Thank you.

This is the best video covering this issue and repair, thanks! Great detail, pace, and tips. Just fixed my daughter's 2011 Elantra GLS today and wanted to add some notes that might help someone else: 1) No knee air bag - There is instead a bare metal frame piece that is held in place by five 10mm bolts that you just remove. 2) Different wiring harness clip - In the video at 20:46, there's a tab that the harness clips to, but in her car, the harness is attached to a white/beige plastic piece that's then held to the column by a single screw. To free the harness, you have to remove that white piece by unscrewing it from behind. 3) Steering wheel not centered after reassembly - Too much to spell it all out, but the upper section (steering wheel, controls, support bracket) can then be pulled off the lower section (lower shaft, steering-assist motor, control box). Same steps, but keep that (cursed) rear bolt in place, removing only the two side nuts holding the column up. Separate upper from lower, fix alignment, and slide back together.

Videos like this may have just saved me quite a bit. My 2013 Elantra started going clunk when I turned. I took it in to my regular mechanic and they told me I needed to replace "the power steering system" and it would be $3200. I was surprised and told them I'd have to think about it. Did some thinking, did some online research, and discovered this is a common problem fixed by a $10 part. I don't have the time to do the fix myself but I have an appointment with the dealership to get it done in a few weeks. They seemed to know exactly what it was on the phone. Thanks for posting this video to help people like me.

My 2013 Hyundai Elantra was a tad different. It was missing the airbag (or maybe it didn’t have one to begin) but this video was extremely thorough and detailed for a beginner like myself. The rubber bushing cost me $13 from autozone and saved me $400+ from dealership quotes. This video saved my wallet and my patience. Overall took me and my brother-in-law 3.5 hours from start to finish, runs like brand new. Thank you for this video, very good!

Excellent video. I appreciated all the detail. The only problem I had was putting the steering column back into place. If you can have someone hold the wheel while you are getting it back into the holder, it helps. Also, locking the wheel tilt control in place before you drop the column may help when lining up the two front column nuts.

Legend! Believe it or not I failed my registration check because of this and the mechanic quoted me $2000 for the repair. Can't believe that this is such a straightforward repair.

I just finished this job on my daughters 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS using this video as a guide. This video was great. My car and I am assuming everyone else there might be some slight difference do to different options each car has. Mine did not have the lower air bag but had a lower support brace instead .The brace had 4 bolts to remove.Other differences included that I had more electrical connectors to disconnect at the steering wheel. The main idea is that you going to drop the top steering wheel down so disconnect any wires that are hook up to it. The bottom part of the steering wheel ( the electrical disconnects) was exactly the same as the video . ** The most difficult part for me was the ONE Back Bolt that hold the steering wheel in the slot. It was a bit hard to get to But it would not budge. I had to get out a long half inch breaker bar to bust in loose. Even with the half inch breaker bar it did not to come lose. Finally I was able to break it lose to unscrew. Don’t know if I could done it without have the breaker bar though..

Amazing work and thank you so much for the video! The steering feels a lot smoother and does not vibrate at high speeds. Few suggestions for the people who’ll be working on the same model as mine 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS: 1. The wire Harness shown in the video is for an Elantra GT which is much simpler. There are lot more wires to unclip so just keep an eye on the wiring harness layout. Keep in mind the steering column will drop so you don’t want any wires that might be damaged. 2. Attaching the steering column back is a 2 person job. The assembly is heavy so unless you’re a professional mechanic or heavy lifter, take someone’s help. The big bolt attaching at the back is a real pain. Overall it took me around 2 hours but it was totally worth it. I was quoted about $250 for the whole job and I did it in $7. Can’t thank you enough for the video. Really motivating for amateurs who are trying to work on their cars.

I followed your instructions except my Elantra didn't have the mentioned air bag which actually made things easier. Getting the steering column back on was a little tricky as the steering wheel separated from the steering column. I probably could have avoided that by locking the steering tilt. I had to add a bit of extra time to ensure the steering wheel was calibrated correctly, meaning the wheel was straight when the car wheels were straight. Other than that the repair went smoothly and I am very appreciative. Thank you again.

I somehow let the steering column come apart when reinstalling and now the steering wheel is at the 2 o clock position when wheels are straight. Is it possible to take back out and reinstall properly or is an alignment the only option? Thanks for the video!

What a fantastic walk-through! The best video I have seen thus far. Unfortunately on the 2011 Elantra there is less room to get to the bolt that holds the steering at the back. Its a struggle. The nut got cross-threaded when refitting the long bolt that allows the steering move north to south. I will check with the dealer for a new pair.

Just wanted to post my biggest thanks to you. And wanted to add that this repair is slightly different in RHD cars. That same rear long bolt is not mirrored and the fuse panel is in the way. You also need to remove the panel above this section too to unscrew it. You need go partially disconnect this and then turn your hands into play dough to try and reach it. It's incredibly hard and the long nose pliers help. I freaked out thinking I wouldn't be able to do it. I succeeded but only just! Many thanks from Australia!
