The Hyundai Sonata isn't exactly a pulse-raising sports sedan in its basic form, despite packing a decent amount of power under its curvy bonnet. As we have become all too aware, things are changing and a handsome, competent sedan isn't what the market wants. If they do, they buy a Camry Hybrid.
So Hyundai, with fewer customers to offer its big front-wheel drive sedan, have gone all in on a sporty version of the Sonata, the N-Line. It's just one spec, packed with stuff and a decent chassis to go with it.

Peter, what type spare wheel is supplied? How is the wet clutch auto in stop-start traffic, eg creeping forward? Are the gear changes seamless or noticeable? The car looks great. What is the 0-100km time? Thank you

Looking for a replacement for my 2015 VF CalaisV V8 and I think I have found one. Seems to have the power and luxury I need at a good price. I believe a full size spare fits too.

If you haven't bought one yet I would actually check that spare wheel well on the test drive or at the dealership, it comes with a space saver and ours doesn't have much room around it so I reckon you would be hard pressed to get a full size in

All explained in the written review, the scoring criteria is fairly clear when you read it. It is fun, though.

Current Sonata owner... Love it. However the boot opening is a challenge. Large boot, but a challenge to get items in it. Often end up placing items on the back seat as unable to get it in the boot. I do a lot of Kms and servicing is very often, but the cost is not an issue. On long hauls, a fantastic car with amazing fuel economy. Handling is amazing.

The "fake aero" as you called it ahead of the front wheels is in fact functional. The rear is fake.

No and it doesn't have ambient lighting inside like overseas nline. But we do get rear door blinds and remote rear blind ,heated and cooling front seats and heated seats in rear, heads up display and blind spot cameras but America doesn't get them feature's.

The Sonata hit all the right points for me but at 195cm the roof-line was just that bit too low to find a comfortable seating setup for longer journeys. A real shame as I think the car is great value for what it delivers.

At 7:05 is reported that it has 18 cubic feet or 510 liters of trunk or boot space. This is a TOP 500 SEDAN, which belongs to the select group of those whow have more than 500 liters of capacity in its trunk or boot and I'm going to put this video on my decents sedan playlist! @@mharro88 If you compare the price to a top of the range Toyota Camry SL, Mazda 6 Atenza or Honda Accord, which are direct competitors to the Sonatra, than the pricing look more reasonable. However, I'm a bit two minds with Hyundai as of late anyway.

Firstly the vehicle is truly a quality build and im really happy with it but after reading many comments i have to agree about the roof line. It looks slick but I've only got 5cm of headroom left. Why couldn't the electric seats simply have more lowering capacity.

Design wise, this car is definitely much better looking than any other Euro or Japanese cars! But Price is tricky! With that much $$$$ I can buy European cars,,,,,,which are faster then Japanese or Korean cars..... If not my money, I do`nt mind buying one though.....

Mmm, it’s close to grabbing me… FWD is a turn off, as is the look of front end. Also should have the ‘fastback’ lift back rather than a traditional boot. Interior looks great apart from the steering wheel. Think I’ll get a 2018-19 stinger instead.

I just took one for a test drive, now seriously thinking of getting one. FWD is actually fine in this car, still wish it was a fastback though. Looks much better in the flesh. Apart from that, the steering wheel is not great , but could live with it…a few hard plastics like the journo notes- feels like a Hyundai there. I’m doing a second longer test drive tomorrow, may well be my next car 😎

Agree with your comment that the SONATA branding is a bad marketing mistake for the Australian market. The name is ingrained and stigmatised as an old mans car. Can’t see it gaining sales when the KIA Stinger is just a better proposition in every respect. Ps I also hate that steering wheel.

Once again Australia gets the better version of every car. Looking at you Subaru Levorg. Here in the US we don't get the same headlights on the n line. We also don't have the heads up display or front camera. Basically everything that the Limited version has that the N-line should have.

The disappointing fact is this vehicle is being discontinued in favour of an EV. There is much debate over EV v HYBRID v ICE and HYDROGEN COMBUSTION and HYDROGEN FUEL CELLS, so the end of the STINGER and SONATA seems premature and disappointing for performance cars that are long distance and easy to refuel all over Australia, let alone the high price for EV versions.

The performance and tech features you get for the money can't be beat. Its a rocket. The exterior is polarizing but can honestly say the car looks much better in person than in pictures or video

After the obviously glowing assessment of the Sonata Peter, your score was quite underwhelming? I was thinking it would be high 8’s at least. Looks like a terrific alternative to the ho hum SUV, that EVERYONE seems to must have.🥱 I’ve got a Skoda Superb station wagon & after owning a couple of ho hum SUV’s I wouldn’t go back..WARDS!🤣👍🏼😎
