I-405 between Renton and Bellevue to close this weekend for construction

All lanes of the northbound and southbound Interstate 405 between Renton and Bellevue will be closed this weekend due to the Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.
The Washington State Department of Transportation announced the closure urging drivers to plan their commutes accordingly and expect heavier traffic along detour routes.
According to WSDOT, the closure will begin on Friday at 11 p.m. and will end on Monday at 4 a.m.

Worst commute is an understatement. Formally I drove this section of I405 everyday to get to work on Mercer Island. It was awful in late 1990s and early 2000s. I no longer live in Seattle, but I was amazed to see this report touting road work that should have begun well before year 2000. I remember how Bill Gates and Paul Allen use to travel by boat and helicopter because of one, traffic and two, they were filthy rich. Myself and the other peasants remained relegated to I405 and I 90.

How is it that the taxpayer funds most of these projects yet all we seem to get are more toll lanes. In my line of work we can't afford to live close to work, we have to pay to park at the jobsite and when you add in the tolls its just not worth it. In messed up California they actually manage to build roads that are not tolled. We are doing overtime this weekend and at least a couple employees will be sleeping in their cars because after fighting traffic all week they don't want to fight traffic on the weekend. If you see more cars than usual on you're street you can thank WSDOT. I don't go to downtown Seattle very much anymore because one time when my sister was visiting for the 4th of July it took us almost 2 hours to go 15 miles because of holiday traffic + a major road construction project and I said never again I'm vacationing in places where traffic and parking are not an issue.

They're closing down main highways to put tolls in...DONT WE PAY ENOUGH IN TAXES ,WE ALL VOTED AGAINST TOLLING BTW

Sure, why not? Oregon is trying to implement tolls for the bridges crossing the Columbia River in Portland. I guess the Oregon gasoline tax is not enough to support replacing the I5 bridge and maintaining the I 205 bridge as well.. That's our future everyone. The states spend your tax money on "god knows what" and commuting to work and shopping will be normalized costing you more. Additionally, there seems to be no "drop dead dates" clearly proposed for tolling. As if a date was actually part of the plan. Humm, I read a book once titled "Brave New World." We seem to have arrived ahead of schedule. Good luck everyone.

our tax dollars are paying to install them in the first place. We're paying for lanes that we will then be charged to use. It's insanity!

I’m against tolls but it’s also an expansion project to put more normal lanes on 405 so I’m for that.
