I added the new Sternguard Veteran Squad to my Black Templars force in Warhammer 40k!

Once I see a tabard like on these new Sternguard Veterans I need to add them to my Black Templars! The new Space Marines are now on preorder and thanks to ‪@officialwarhammer‬ I've been able to get a headstart! Love how these look in the Black Templar scheme! What will you be painting yours as?
Here's the basing scheme I used on this model too, I now use AK Terrain Fire Land instead of Martian Ironcrust(it's way cheaper!)

Decided yesterday to paint up a bunch of terminators (pre-Leviathan sculpts unfortunately) as Black Templars as they'd been languishing in my cupboard of shame for probably over a decade. Definitely going to use this as reference, though with the iconic white (cream) shoulderpads. Thanks Andy!

There is nothing unfortunate about the old termies. Just put them on 1-2mm of cork on the base and you will never know the difference

It’s a really hard and quite personal decision funnily enough. It’s like a football team it this hobby not to be taken lightly.

I have Deathwatch and spray them with Grey Seer, then hit the armor with Black Legion contrast paint. Then give the black parts a heavy dry brush with Necron Compound, then a thin downed wash with Black Templar. I'll try a batch with Nuln Oil instead of BT and see how that goes. Looks pretty decent and I don't have to edge highlight.

Not having to edge highlight is the key to getting the army painted.

Really interesting colour scheme, I think this approach to black power armour would also work quite well with Iron Hands. It's quite possible that you've convinced me to try out the "stipple chipping" technique

Just got back into 40k and started assembling a Black Templar army. Ordered a box of these guys as I think they would be perfect for staying back, holding objectives. Definitely gonna paint them like sword brothers, they looks so awesome with the black and red and it makes sense with them being a badass squad of veterans. They just prefer to go pew pew than hack and slash. But even then, the sarg can have a power fist and I believe they have 4 attacks with close combat weapons.

Everytime i see your Templar scheme i have a bit of regret at my 3 stage edge highlighted armour. Good excuse to paint up some Imperial fists with a much simpler scheme i guess 😂

Looks good. I think a red tabard would have been too dark, definitely prefer the Zandri dust and highlights.

Great job!I'm still new to Warhammer, only started last week, really love the black templars, can I ask what model or box set is this from?I can't seem to find the one your painting. As im looking at the sternguard veteran squad pack, i dont see any of them havin the same pose or even the big hand which you have. As the one im looking at is holding a sword?

It’s straight from the kit. There are some alternate builds in the box. I loved this one.

Yes it will work! I would say though if you’re doing a full army of black Templars then it’s worth investing in leadbelcher spray as it will save you so much time, but a thin coat of hand brushed on paint also works!

Do the new Sternguard kit come with a Titus head just like the old Sternguard kit did? Also, for Orktober it would be cool if you did the last Imperial Fist, Captain Koorland. His story from the War of the Beast in M32 is pretty interesting :)

Honest question: Is calling the receiver of a firearm a "casing" a British thing or a 40K thing? Because I have never heard any part of a firearm called a "casing" before I started painting minis. Thanks.

No, there is just a protective casing around the receiver of the bolter. The red bit is the casing. The receiver is beneath it.

Ye basically there is an extra cover around a bolt gun. I’ve always called it a casing.
