Genuinely confused why they tried to quantify it in a way that made sense for the take to be wrong but them to be right and they had to fundamentally define the boundaries of a comic for it to make sense. Even I feel like I'm reaching even just repeating that.

Even if their takes are good they will always be annoying. And once in a while they take that attitude to something that is isn't the Twitter politics trenches this is what you get. I mean, we have sperm banks and sperm donors and there is nothing humiliating about those. The humiliating part is that it's specifically Elon musk's sperm, as in you went out of your way for that. Less text could made it less clear, in fact basil's example actually wouldn't have made the joke very clear and even if it did I think it ruins the joke a bit. I am going to explain/interpret the joke to explain my point. The joke is about how the "anti-woke" crowd seems to attach way too much importance to it that when something is deemed "anti-woke" they all jump on it. They use common phrases/lines people of that crowd is used so you can actually see/imagine those people and realise that what they are doing is pretty stupid. As the lemonade didn't actually change but suddenly they care for it. Basil says that because the OVERALL meaning can be given without those quotes then just remove them. And while the joke does work it arguably works LESS because you remove that clear link to what the criticism is to some more generic "oh right wing dumb/bad" that is just not as funny. It isn't hypocritical to say both of these work so complaining and saying you MUST have less text (what Basil is arguing) is dumb. Peeps isn't saying that less text is NOT good. He is saying it isn't REQUIRED and acting as if it is is dumb. Which is true. People who act as if these general rules are the word of law and then get mad when people actually play around with them are actually being stupid because they dont realose the point of rules especially in comedy are just guidelines and acting as if there is some objective truth makes you look dumb.

People have posted countless examples of the same comic with no text other than “lemonade” with no line of people, and then “Anti woke lemonade” with a huge line of people. This clearly expresses the EXACT SAME meaning of the comic. Regardless, my point is that the fact that we are even arguing this proves that the point is arguable at all. I said that simply saying " less words = good" in an absolutist way is a stupid take because it is just taking a general rules/guideline and applying it as law. Peeps is pointing out that if you attack someone, they reserve the right to do it back and if you have complaints then just don't do it. You are just interpreting it in the worst light possible and then saying Peeps is a hypocrite in doing so. Like you agree that it is debatable but carry on to use absolutist language acting as if "show don't tell" is 100% always the case and that it is "objectively" true. Pick one. You cannot just use "objectively" when it is you but when it is someone else say "well it is debatable and depends".

This just tells me you didn't see the point. The point was that basil came out of left field with an annoying "fixed it for you" attitude, and the other twitter user responded negatively because when a stranger acts annoying for no reason you generally react negatively and people are acting as if being mean was not the correct response to basil's annoying tweet. It doesn't matter whether basil was right or wrong, that's not the point.

The quotes the people say are word for word what you hear people like this say so saying "well the general meaning can be gotten across with those removed" while technically correct kinda removes some of the punch of the joke. Also people not taking some general rule and treating it as a law and not some guideline is always fun.

It was everything else that happened that made this a bigger deal, where Haus and others tried to defend the decision in and of itself, such as suggesting that Basil didn't like to read. As for what "objective" means in this context, it's the general position of philosophers of aesthetics that aesthetic value is objective. (~60% in the most recent philpapers survey) So there should be an objective fact of the matter as to which of these comics has more artistic merit, is more "aesthetically humorous", etc. Whether or not these facts are currently accessible to us. I mean, whatever. But they should exist objectively.

sorry i just got to the bit in the video with the comic and was reminded of how much text is actually in it laughed out loud because i remembered this comment calling it "ben garrison levels of unnecessary text" because there are 3 extremely short sentences in it. truly a degree of contempt for one's audience never before seen at junior level and below
