In Western Countries, The Music Stands In The Name Of The creator. To name a few: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Debate, Sassibert, They all performed in theatres more in the same way Isaignani Ilayaraja has been doing. They too got money for their music. From the stories I've heard and the literature I've reviewed, The saddest thing to the core is that the genius, maestro, and much more Mozart was penniless during major part of his life time and had to compose music for the orders of even the street boys who came asking Mozart to compose music for their girl friends birthday and other petty things for a meager amount. Mozart was in debt and he had no other option to accept such offers more than refusing in order to make money for his daily living. In that way Mozart has sold his music (symphonies) too... Now who do people call those music... In the name of the creators or the so called producers? Now coming to the Indian scenario, let's make an assumption that the music was made for the situations, music director got money. movie director got money, play back singer got money, musicians got money... everything is fine. the movie runs and becomes a block buster. producer gets ten time the money as profit... Does he fix a percentage to share his profit with music director, editor, art director and every other involved in the movie. the movies are played in TV channels and streaming services.. who is making money? After few days and months no one sees the movie but the songs are no so.. even songs from flop movies become huge hits and are played and heard in private and public places. But, leave, Isaignani Ilayaraja, other music directors who were on the top once and faded long ago... their musicians and technicians, they stay financially poor when still their albums keep going well in the market. Royalty is something which is paid to the creators. So, Isaignani Ilayaraja has the right to claim royalty not only for his benefits but also for the good of his retired musicians and current musicians playing in his troupe. the same is applicable for other music directors, then and now and their musicians and technicians. Producers are not creators. 99℅of the producers are not creators of art.. In that way the profit of the movie going to the movie producer itself is wrong. the profit should be shared on percentage basis with the whole cast of the movie. but I myself don't support it because it is not practical. But in all other ways, the creator should be paid royalty which means the music director. Bharathy wrote poems... but those poems take new shape and reach wide audience (common people, eg: Isaignani Ilaiyaja's Thiruvasagam) only through music. each music director can score different music for the same song. eg: 'Nallathor veenai seithe'. What was the reach of 'Vanthe mathram' song before the madras maestro ARR scored his music for it? was it the lyrics or the tune? May the music directors be given provision to claim their royalty fir their creations. And likewise the poets claim their royalty for their lyrics composed in the form of books separately. otherwise, a large money goes into the hands of someone who has got nothing to do with the songs and the movies...

@muniyandimuniyandi5493 let me explain. It is about holding ownership of the songs, music albums and movies and more. For example you have an album created by you. I paid and got the ownership of your album. Whoever worked for this album were already paid. So I am the owner [hold copyright] of this album now. In case if any media or person want to use my album then they have to pay some amount that varies by platform [movies, concerts, rington ...]where they use. Now let us come to the point connected with IR. IR made songs for movies and of course paid by the movie producers fully then IR has no copyright or hold ownership. However if movie producer and IR has agreement like make songs for my movie and as hold copyright as salary or IR bought songs copyright from movie producers. In any of this executed then IR is the owner of those songs. Well you may raise what about people including song writer, singer and instrument players and all? Good question. They were paid for their work like construction workers in building the house. Well if they want to hold ownership of the song then they should pay to get that like music director does. Here you can assume the music director is like building contractor. So IR made such kind of agreement with his movie producers and hold the copy right. I can give you one more example. You may Raj video vision. They hold the copyright many 80-90 movies digital rights. So if anyone wants telecast those movies in their media or commercial purposes then they have to pay Raj Ltd. In addition, director and producers of those movies may get some amount every time those movies get telecasted provided they have agreement. Well here ARR made nice agreement with big musical companies like Sony that those companies will work as agency and collect money from media and people who uses ARR songs. They are like rental collection company. They pay amount to ARR. Well IR also had similar contract with these companies. However he didn't receive money as expected. Imagine IR worked for 1000 movies. Probably he may hold 500 movie songs copy right[I guess] atleast. So how much money he supposed to get? That us why he brake the contract with those companies and started own agency. The manager for this company is Dina the music director. You may say IR is greedy and why he needs. He worked hard for more than 50 years and paid for song copyright. So he has full right to claim if someone uses his songs for commercial purposes. It is upto him to give up or ask for it. I was told that, his copyright included all his Troup members and they get some amount as well which is not the case for other music directors including ARR, Aniruth for example. That's fine it is their agreement with the agency that collect money from media or people. Imagine you have a car and your friend renting and collect money without your knowledge. What would you do? That's what happened in SPB case. SPB son arranged the concert with some agency and used IR sons in that concert and earned the money. So, Dina the Manger of IR filed the case against the company that organized the concert which was purely commercial. So, the Manger of IR sent notice to all people those were part of it including organizer, singers Chitra, SPB and more. However, media and haters of IR spread false news and shook the friendship between SPB and IR. Put yourself. You have a bike and your friend uses your bike without your knowledge and earn money out of it? What will you do? Well. Copyright agreement plays vital role. As it is confirmed already, IR hold sole ownership for the songs he made[mostly]. So, he has right to file the case if anyone uses for commercial purposes and didn't pay the amount. I'm western countries it is a common practice and new to our country or got hyped as IR involved. Hope you got now.
