That's what it tastes. I mean it was ok to sprikle a few on the coutertop and dip a finger in and taste them - when I was 3 y.o , helping decorating cookies.

I prefer the regular, cylinder shaped sprinkles. The spherical ones just taste like sugar, and I'm not a fan of that tooth breaking crunch when biting down. Even as a little kid, I thought they looked pretty, but the round sprinkles were pointless to have on anything edible.
