I had my 2 week old son in his carrier headed to my suv when I lived in AZ. I always put my hand turned palm up under the top left side of the handle and my elbow on the cloth part next to the bottom of the left side of the handle on the inside where my arm was kind of wedged to carry it because I am a small person. I stepped on a venomous snake that was trying to cross the sidewalk where I just happened to be trying to walk down the sidewalk at the same time as Mr snake felt the need to cross to the other side. I danced around trying to get over/around him like that sidewalk was hot. I am sure I looked crazy! I didn’t even realize I had raised my babies carrier up as high as I could hold it where it was sitting on my shoulder with me holding toward the bottom of the handle. My instinct was to protect the baby and try to get us out of the situation as quickly as possible. It was not a conscious thought to protect him it was so fast and scary and my instincts protected him for me.
