He sure does ! I know he’s super talented but I’ve never been a big fan. Not an anti-fan , just not a follower. (My mom loved him !) Even so , he really does it justice. Of course he’s a consummate professional in the music biz but it’s still super impressive that ND is right in front of him ! , and Neil doesn’t seem to be one bit nervous about it .

This version is a crime because of the ‘rents are low” lyric. Makes sense in the original 1971 context of comparing LA rents to NY rents where Diamond is from. But if the reference point is now modern Alabama, referring to modern LA as having low rent is very divorced from reality. Makes me so mad I rewatched 4 times😉

@SigFigNewton it's a lyric, written years ago. Not to be compared to present times. Mr. Richie's version was magnificently performed, and therein lies the wonderfulness of the songs longevity. Kudos Mr. Diamond. Hopefully his play, currently running on Broadway, will prove that statement correct, even with the rents AND prices of the tickets to go see the play/musical.❤

Neil Diamond is one of my favorite artists. His voice and style are so distinctive that not many can successfully take on one of his hits. But, Lionel Ritchie can do anything and make it look easy. Beautiful tribute!

Just so you know, Neil Diamond has been my all time favorite singer my whole life. A long time. Thats why I was pissed about the way he sang the song. And my comment still goes. Love Neil Diamond s songs and Lionel Richie also. There was so mich awesome music coming out in the 60s, 70s, 80s and even the 90s. There are still many new artists that are also incredibly talented that I love to hear also. Bit there is a special place in my heart for tje 60s-70s when I was a kid growing up. Especially that voices were always louder than the backing music.

Wow Im came across this while listening to Lionel Ritchies songs. Part of me feel sad listening to his songs and the memories of how simple life was back then and how music was still being discovered. I miss those days 😪

Great job by Lionel. Neil was definitely moved. I wonder if it was the first time he heard this song sung by someone else. Definitely enjoyed it. Thank you.
