Had a lot of fun with the game up until I completed it. "Big but shallow puddle" kinda says it all & it certainly is a step in the right direction. There's nothing more than catch the pokemon, look at the pokemon. If your a PokeDex junkie and a shiny hunter this games for you. If your a team builder that wants to work your way through a battle system/hop online to battle strangers, sorry no can do.

That's unfortunate to hear... For once I'm actually having fun with a modern pokemon game let alone a 3D pokemon game. Is it perfect? Hell no. But fun it is and I find myself being quite invested which is great. Hopefully the series continues taking this route and polishes it further

I’m having a good time, but I do think that the game relies too heavily on catching the whole ‘dex. If that’s not for you, I understand not liking it.

I'm enjoying it thus far but god, I want them to KEEP GOING with the ideas this game started. I sincerely hope that they don't just give up on the idea wholesale. It's not that the ideas are bad, it's that they needed more time to bake. And if they can't realize this I'll be severely upset

I tried. I gave it about 17 hours, beat 4 bosses and I just can't go back to it. It's one of the most boring games I've ever played. It's so empty. After the first 3 hours being a barrage of cutscenes I completely stopped caring about the story and sped through all dialogue. The side quests are incredibly pointless for anything other than filling the Pokedex which after 10 hours I stopped caring about as well and just wanted to get to the end of the game. Cool, you can throw pokeballs in real time. I found that to be literally the only thing that was enjoyable when it worked. But I can't go back, too many other games to play. This one was a real let down for me.

I'm curious if this will be the next Black & White (HATED but retroactively LOVED.) Or the opposite I suppose (LOVED but retroactively HATED). I WILL say this... I wish there was voice acting. Edit: The quality of life improvements like changing the moves at will, choosing when to evolve your Pokemon when they meet certain conditions, etc. Should stick around for future games.

they really need to give the next one double the budget and development time. i just want a polished and really good pokemon game i can come back to many times and enjoy, i dont care if its 4 or 5 years between the releases of those games

It is pretty fun. Could look better. I hope they stick with this formula but bring back towns, gyms, elite four and trainer battles and multiplayer and it will be amazing. Also the overworld is okay but it could have better POI and dungeons. Overall it is a solid game. I’dgive it a 7.5-8. Most fun I have had since X and Y

This is the first time I’ve ever been invested in a Pokemon story. I think the dialogue is interesting and it’s very cool to see how people and Pokemon coexisted before modern times. There’s some interesting lore and a lot of easter eggs in the dialogue that reference future games. With that in mind, I don’t actually mind the cutscenes. They were way worse in Sun-Moon and Sword-Shield because those games had bad dialogue.

I feel that another game with these features that fits better with the traditional games would be more enjoyable for you. I find the catching and pokedex completion fun so I'm having a blast, but I can see why you're not enjoying it as much. I really hope GameFreak continues to build on what they established here.

After watching your livestream and this first impressions I think the reason the large bulk of the fanbase disagrees at the moment is because they don’t have nearly the issue you have just clicking through the story. You’ll notice in Sun and moon when it first came out nobody complained about it. Then people started complaining when the replays started. And when everyone replayed it for USUM that’s when people really began to hate the early game for Sun and moon. This just isn’t an issue that most people will have on first playthrough cause usually Pokémon games have a sort of charm in their early hours with nostalgia of starting a Pokémon adventure. At least that’s the impression I get from other streamers. Really that’s what it’s like for anyone who doesn’t replay these games a lot. Another potential reason is that people aren’t looking for polish in their Pokémon games as much as they are looking for a memorable experience which despite its flaws legends is fairly memorable at least stacked up against literally any Pokémon game that isn’t your first. I’d actually be really curious to see you make a video on two different subjects. The first is on what your ideal Pokémon game would be like within the bounds of what you can actually see happening in the near future. So nothing unrealistic but probably helpful like Gamefreak being taken out of the picture or slimming releases down to 1 every 4 years. The other topic I’d be curious to see you cover is why you still play the new Pokémon games beyond any traffic it generates to your channel. What are you still looking for in Pokémon that keeps you buying these games every time and going in relatively spoiler free as opposed to waiting till they come out to see what they are like or skipping multiple major releases to see larger blocks of improvements if you are lucky.

I don't think the main character is supposed to be Lucas and Dawn. If they were, they would have actually had much more of a reaction to meeting the characters. Plus also the cellphone at the beginning looks too much like a modern cellphone. Nothing that could have existed in the 2006 diamond and pearl universe (BDSM doesn't count) My guess is that the player character is from the real world, which is why you can respond with you "never hearing about Pokemon" in the beginning

Aside from the graphics, which I got used to after the first 2 hours or so, I am having more fun with this game than any of the mainline games since BW2. I understand its not for everyone and yes there are things that could/should have been better - but as far as I am concerned the 60 bux i payed were the most worth since 10 years or so. The vibe with the wild being dangerous, the RPG-Elements with free exploration, the higher difficulty, with options to grind/rush- these are things that many fans have been craving for ages and now we finally got those! Most importantly, I believe, is that we can finally see innovation: If this style of Pokemon-Game is continued and improved upon then I can only see a bright future. Imo you cant even compare these to SwSh, they are totally different games. Unfortunately, as we could see with this game and BDSP (and earlier games), the time-limits or time-managment must have not been amazing. But that probably wont change, will it?

Good points in the video. I personally am having a lot of fun with this game. Catching a ton of one kind of Pokémon and completing the dex is something I used to do as a kid and having that feeling come back in a new way made me enjoy this game so much more. The lack of trainer battles was alright because most of the time I was exploring and or battling alphas & the battles felt alright. After completing the game u have a few more challenges to face which honestly is a lot of fun and challenging, something I haven’t felt since gen 3. I hope game freak just continues with this direction but expands upon what they’ve already created^^

I'm having mixed feelings towards Legends Arceus. I feel like this games doesn't decide what they want the player to do. They keep giving me missions for the player to complete, moving the plot onward but those tasks and completing Pokédex keep me too busy, distracting me from the missions. And the I keep switching between doing the tasks/completing the Pokedéx and doing the missions but after doing one of them for hours the other one feels uninteresting, a chore or "fine, let's stop and come back to that OTHER important thing". It's like they compete for my attention and don't go hand on hand with eachother. In the other Pokémon games, you could complete your Pokedéx but the real main thing was to beat the gym and the Pokémon League, so you could try to focus on the Pokedéx after beating the game or trying to catch the Pokémon while going through place to place, but it LE, completing the Pokedéx is so much more important that it keeps distracting me from the main plot and/or the main plot of the game keep distracting me from completing the Pokédex

The only real thing I hate about Legends Arceus is that you're forced to rank up your star rank in order to proceed in the story mode. I don't get why the star rank thing couldn't a side thing that doesn't force you to rank up in order to proceed in the story. I guess the Star Rank is a replacement for gym badges but it's a very poor replacement and it makes me not want to play the game.

Hello there Mr. Jerrycan! I certainly can't speak for everybody but this game kind of made me feel like a kid again but in a good way. It's been ages since I walked into a Pokemon game not knowing what to expect and being legitimately challenged. I hope that you progressed you enjoy the game though since tamashi had similar feelings to you ended up enjoying it after she got further

That's rough buddy. Cas I'm actually loving it. I actually agree with you. It's boring. It's unfinished. It's a great starting point. But it's also more than I ever thought I would get from a Pokémon game. And I'm genuinely shocked it exists.

The main reason why people consider Legend Arceus a great pokemon game since forever its because we got so many bad Pokemon games back to back , and we can all agree it started with around Gen 6 or Gen 7. This game was "ground breaking" for many Pokemon fans cuz you are encourage to explore more , find more pokemons , do the "Gotta catch them all" , do things outside the story to expand more , and even though the graphics look like "wii graphics and outdated", they are still better than what we got for Gen 8 and the remake of BD/SP. In conclusion , is a very enjoyable game if you like exploring and have played games like Zelda Breath of the Wild or Monster Hunter. I personally find it on the right direction for Pokemon games after the fiasco of the last years.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is different from the past Pokemon games which is still good but right now I still have the biggest question 🤔is when will Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl have the fourth update patch so we can finally used the Wonder Trade and Global Trade Station (GTS). I know there's Link Trade but Wonder Trade is the most important part of the games and makes it a lot easier, I don't know why they're not added to the games before released back in November but I'm guess that with Pokemon Legend Arceus release that they wanted wait a bit longer before it's finally updated but I'm hoping it'll happen at the start of February because I'm getting fed up of waiting and because be worth it🤞. As for Pokemon Legends: Arceus I will planning to buy the game in the future after watching some KZfaq videos to get some ideas to what to expect in the game.

I get where you are coming from. As a modern 2022 game, it is highly lacking, but as a pokemon game, I think it’s pretty fun.

My only real complaint is the graphics. Pokemon is fundamentally different from other open world games, so "just collecting pokemon" is actually okay, but there are some puzzles and better quests down the line. I've been as critical as you of recent Pokemon games, but while not stunning it's still a pretty good game.

Personally I have legit been enjoying the game a lot so far, it could be a lot better and I do wish there was more but what is there is good. I hope they take it further in future games

i enjoy it as a “turn your brain off” sorta game, which is my favourite kind of game lmao. the kind you can unwind and space out playing for hours after a long and draining day, just doing tasks and whatnot. kinda like animal crossing. i think it’s sorta overhyped, but it’s charming, and the formula has some potential :^)

Seriously no matter what Gamefreak does people like Gireum will still complain. There is a difference between criticism and just always negativity bashing something. I’m not surprised though as people love drama after all and will happily bring fame to those that hate on well accomplished franchises and companies. Haven’t played a Pokémon game since GBA sapphire/ruby and I have to say it has its faults but it is very good imo. My only problems I’ve had is catching Pokémon flying super high up and visually seeing Pokémon in water/tall grass. Also there really should be a compass or some kind of minimap to give you a sense of direction without needing to look at the map 24/7

I do think it gets better as you progress, as some of your issues are addressed to some extent. But yeah it's definitely flawed. Still loving it, though

I’m always really curious to see viewpoints on this. Mostly because when it comes to games all I really care about is having fun playing it myself. If someone happens to dislike or strongly like some thing that I just enjoy that’s fine. I actually love Jen sevens games even though a lot of people aren’t the biggest fans. Does that mean I think they’re perfect oh God no. Still I’m hoping to get this game if just so I can see if I’ll have fun with it that’s all that matters to me

I agree with some of the points, however I personally like how the world is completely wild and there's only 1 real town (not counting the clans). Maybe some more natural structures could be fun tho

I haven't fully finished it yet, but I'm guessing I'm almost done with at least the main story. My feelings are that this is the kind of Pokemon game I have wanted for over 20 years. The fact that I can choose to throw out any Pokemon I want into a battle, or catch a Pokemon out in the wilderness just by throwing a Pokemon at it while it's unaware of me, is exactly what the Anime showed me over 20 years ago. It's mechanically the perfect Pokemon game, and even the people who don't like it generally still praise the gameplay mechanics and say it's the direction the future of the series should head. That said, I fully understand all the complaints, and can see why some might not like this specific game overall. The graphics are nothing special at all, there should be more trainer battles IMO, and I'd hope future games in this style have a lot more towns you can visit. That said, I love the game a lot. It's probably the most fun I have had with an RPG since Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and easily the most fun I have had with a Pokemon game since the original Diamond. I only loved that game due to friends at school, and the various multiplayer features that game had at the time.

Imo Legends is the kind of game Monster Hunter and/or Pokemon Go players would like, not hardcore Pokemon fans. I admit it's an improvement compared to the other games since SM, but come on. Does anyone genuinely think someone who's favorite Pokemon game is Platinum is gonna like Legends? Again, it's an ok game. It just doesn't feel like it was made for actual Pokemon fans.

Good morning Giruem 🥳 While you have valid criticisms especially the npcs not moving I'm very much enjoying this game. I can only imagine how much more polished it would be if it has baked in the oven another year or so. My bar for expectations were so low after sword that I actually assumed most of buildings in town were just aesthetic and didn't realize I could enter them. This game is a step in the right direction and I personally have been having a lot of fun. I love that they trust you to find your way to a destination with a guide point instead of the way they had someone escort you next door in sword to the hotel 😒 just in case you might get lost walking 8 steps. My husband also complained about the length of the tutorial but only played a few hours so far so you're not alone there. I personally like the side quests and I'm 15 hours in so far. I've been taking my time with it and exploring the map looking for pokemon to complete my pokedex. Im sure when im done with it I'll find things I wish they could have done better but I think so far its worth my money. I'm sorry you're not enjoying it.

God bored pretty early. I thought it was going to have a deep mature story. Mostly due to the fact it takes place in the past were humans and Pokémon aren't exactly on the best of terms. Boy was I WRONG... The story is weak as prior Pokémon games and no interesting characters in my opinion. I dropped the game but I'm enjoying the hell out of Digimon Survive. That's a game with a great story and characters 👏

Fair enough to not thinking this game is for you, a lot of the reviewers just outright say it's bad in ways that makes it sound like "me right, you wrong" and while this is a brief first thoughts, i can appreciate how you say it's not for you and not saying something like "NO ONE SHOULD PLAY THIS GAME, IT'S BAD AND A WASTE OF MONEY" or something repetitive like that

I didn't like Arceus. I really wanted to, but I just couldn't. The core gameplay loop is actually decent, because the catching is honestly very fun and the best thing in the game. But that's is. The rest is absolutely terrible, so unbelievably bad I just couldn't bear myself to beat the postgame. It's honestly baffling to see the amount of "not care" GF had when developing this game. Let's just say the graphics are terrible, but that's not even the worst part- the environment are so bland, so empty, so boring I basically had to force myself to explore them. Caves and dungeons are TERRIBLE, my Infernape actually had glitching graphics when I was exploring them. The writing is also SO bad and the cutscene are of course unskippable (wow, they really had confidence in their work). Even the boss fight albeit interesting at least theoretically were so stupid. Game had some positives but it's ultimately a rushed game that needed so much more polish, and it's basically a beta for Scarlet and Violet. It's now clearer than ever than GF alone can't work with 3D HD graphics. They need some serious help.

Ways to improve the game Have a subplot where some characters are seeking to build a new town(or town expansion project). Many villagers are highly distrustful of Pokemon, with only specialized clans/seasoned adventurers being brave enough to have one. The player must catch pokemon to help with certain tasks(cutting trees, moving rocks etc) and most importantly completing quests for the townsfolk while being followed by their chosen starter. And the townspeople interacting with this young outsider begin to realize that Pokemon aren't just monsters, and that its possible to live with them in peace and harmony. And slowly you begin to see more pokemon appear in town. Maybe one of the buildings we help create turns out to be Sinnohs first gym. And as the game ends you see the way your thinking has rippled outwards. You see a boy who was formerly terrified of pokemon and refused to leave the house now roams the town with his shinx, A young woman brought by her Fiancee(now husband) rocks her baby with the chimeco you found for her wedding singing a lullaby. An old man laughs as the starly that was once a pest now helps him pick berries from the high branches. A small toddler learns to walk with thelp of a buneary while a glameow keeps a watchful eye atop a wall. A Man tired from working asks his chimchar to help make a small bonfire to roast sweet potatoes and his buddies and their pokemon come to join in. And then after a final pan around the town you zoom in to see two children, a boy and a girl, go up to the professor and ask him what kind of pokemon they should start with so they can go out and adventure. And he says, well I have these 3 pokemon....

Like you, the lore and timeframe does sound interesting to me, and I've always been interested in the development of certain items in the Pokemon world. But so far, the game screams "Tech Demo" and I cannot reasonably put money down on it. I'll save it for something else.

i just bought the game yesterday and i feel the same. this game try to represent an open world pokemon game but the environment in the game is really bad. i mean every area looks almost the same, it looks all bland. if you're gonna make an open world at least make each area looks different or stand out. the only part i'm having fun is the mechanics of catching pokemon in the game.

I personally think its an pretty good game thats fun in terms of the catching mechanics and a bunch of other stuff like shiny hunting but what blows my mind that some people are saying its the best story in a pokemon game…. Im 30 hours in and to me its nothing special and rips off botw heavy at the start.

I can understand and agree with your opinion. IMO the handholding is not too bad, but slightly annoying, and I am okay with the cutscenes. I agree with the fact that every npc just stands there, but i don't mind it that much when you just walk past everything. The landscape looks rather barren though, can't blame you. Overall, good insight on the game, but I am still enjoying it. Hey, everyone has their own opinions afterall.

Sad. I don’t think modern pokémon is for you then. I’m personally enjoying the hell out of it. So many side quests that are unique, filling out the dex, etc. Maybe you should just stick with Gen 1-4

I honestly wasn’t a big fan of this game either. A good chunk of the characters are really unlikeable, the “rival” is absolutely useless, I don’t like the concept of Arceus just handing u a phone upgrade and bringing u back in time cause like what? I also didn’t like how the game has a lot of breath of the wild similarities. Also, the new battle style I think is a downgrade, cause fast Pokémon can get up to 5 hits a turn with agile style and high speed stats. The side quests are repetitive and unoriginal, the graphics aren’t really that good, and my least favorite thing of this game is the boss fights. Idk what it is, but it doesn’t feel like Pokémon in the slightest. It feels like a typical rpg, and nothing like Pokémon or what an ideal version of Pokémon would be. I get that this game is probably just an experiment, but it doesn’t feel like a Pokémon game. All in all, the plot was rushed and repetitive, half the game was a breath of the wild copyright, the characters weren’t special, the new battle aspects weren’t enjoyable, and the music wasn’t anything special to me either. It just didn’t feel right at all, and I only kept at it till I finished was cause i felt like I had to

I enjoyed the conversation, the cutseances if you could call them than, and the story, so it didn’t feel as terrible to me. Also, I enjoyed the catching of Pokémon, for more than an hour, and didn’t feel the grind. I mean people are different in what one enjoys, I guess. I do agree mostly with all the points. but honestly, I had a lot of fun, and felt invested in the game, story, and gameplay. It can always be better; however, it didn’t feel as a train wreak or disaster to me xd. Lastly it might also be becouse i had little exspecations, and were used to their standard games, so when this came out, it felt new, fun and great, might be if i replay it in a year, i might change my view. (I do get the game is very flawed and deserved more work, but at some point feels as this is the same with every game and company who makes games, somethimes you just give up and want to enjoy stuff instead of otherwise always.)

Pretty sure they're giving up on this game and going forward with Scarlet/Violet. Hopefully they'll over-deliver on the next game pair instead of watering it down with back and forth tasks. The post game in Arceus is the worst. I wish you could build things with objects like housing... something interactive in a way that spends minutes on end with creativity.

I feel almost the same as you. The game has some interesting ideas and is a step forward for the series, but I don't think those things alone are enough to make up for the rather barren, repetitive experience. My score for this would be either a 6 or 7/10. I would love to see this concept expanded upon and given a longer development time.

Lol but there were treasure chests to discover. I even found one...it's on that gnarled hand area. Those boxes drop good stuff, but there is literally a treasure chest by the wrecked boat.

Yo-Kai Watch does a better experience than Legend Arceus. They could have research old Japanese era and refurnish Pokémon lore! It's a good idea but not fully exploited.

I’m enjoying the game, but I totally agree with your points and I’m glad you’re being real about it. Most of the reviews or videos I’ve seen just can’t stop praising it and just gloss over the problems so this video was super refreshing.
