The thing is about this movie is that the critics rate it very low but the audience give it a very high note and I do agree with the audience

Just researched reception of this movie. They all seemed negative. I thought this movie was brilliant. Every time I watch it, I cry. Awesome story line.

long, long ago and far, far away i took a little boy to see this movie. we were surprised, we cried, we hollered and we laughed. so long, long ago. that little boy has crossed over into the afterlife now but I REMEMBER the day, far, far away when we went to the movies to see "I Am Sam"...and although he is gone, the memory of this day lingers on and reverberates through out the cosmos...#1Love

ONE of the great things about this movie, is that there are no REAL "bad guys". Everybody truly IS trying to do what is best for Lucy (even if they ARE misguided)...and the ending bears that out. Another great thing about the movie, is that they employed a couple of "special needs" actors for the film. Many of the critics just MISSED THE POINT. Sam loved his daughter, and Sam's daughter loved him. HE was the better person, than the mother that wanted nothing to do with Lucy. He takes EXCEPTIONALLY good care of Lucy, yet, they want to take her away, because of THEIR, simply put, PREJUDICE.

Stop misusing commas. "One of the great things about this movie is that ~." There is no reason to add a comma there. "He was a better person than the mother ~" This sentence also doesn't need a comma. "He takes care of Lucy, yet they want to take her away because of their, simply put, prejudice." Three commas were used correctly, two were not.

I watched this on Netflix recently and had to come here and watch an interview of Sean Penn talking normally. His portrayal of a mentally handicapped man was very real!

I don't no why you guys judge people did you no that god put him on this big rock to live a life and to have a family this is not right how cen you guys do this to this guy with his family he and the little girl just lost the mom because she walked away and it's sad that you guys take away what's lift of him not cool
