Bummer! Thanks for sticking with us on KZfaq! I feel your pain, work part-time at a farm store that fixes small engines. 98% of our cool, the other 2% make life miserable. Of course it doesn't help when your techs quit or get canned. If you need a job... Take care, you're stuck with us as "customers "!

It caused me to create a new pricing structure. If you want ME to do the job...$75 an hour, If you want me to explain it to you as I do it...$150 an hour, If you want me teach you how it's done...$225 an hour. If you make unknowledgeable inexperienced presumptions during the process I walk off and never come back. It's all in the contract, sign it I do the work, don't sign it I walk away.

That, and dealing with the people who come in wanting stuff fixed, but want to tell you how to do it. The other one is the people that bring a box of parts in because they decided they would take it up on themselves to tear it apart and try to fix it themselves first, and expect you to sort through everything and put it together just to figure out what's wrong, fix what they broke in the process of taking it apart themselves, replace the missing parts they lost in the process...then actually fix the $5 original problem LOL...oh and not charge them for any labor in doing so.

Hey Steve, a little story. I called a local tool rental/repair service to get a carb kit for a Tecumseh lawn mower engine and was told they didn't have one because Tecumseh went out of business 11 years ago, so I went to Amazon and found a complete carburetor for $11.00 plus S&H total cost $28.00. Replaced it myself and now my line mower ( powerful 2 wheeled weed whacker) is back in action taking down all the tall un-mow able grass. The head takes 140 gauge(I think) 22" string line folded before attaching to the trimmer head creating 4 strings to whack with.

So many thanks for the teaching. I live in the forest, I use chainsaws everyday and I do all my maintenance myself. I also help most of my friends with their issues. A lot of my abilities comes from you and I can't thank you enough to continue teaching us on KZfaq. Stay away from toxic people! Greetings from Québec !

I used to help folks out with all kinds of engine issues in small equipment, vehicles etc. It took years, but I had to learn to say NO. Too many of these people just didn't appreciate my time and effort. These days I'm very, very careful about who I help.

"...my grass is 10 ft tall!". This resonates. Growing up, my dad and a couple neighbors repaired lawn mowers and small engines for resale (they dabbled in service and quit a long time ago due to similar problems). Its remarkable how many people only think about their mowers until at least a week after they needed to run it, and at least two weeks after they should've run it. This is the time of year when they're all busy on their projects, getting ready for Spring when the customers come a knocking.

I Have always appreciated you teaching on KZfaq. I got a master's in small engine repair years ago. And for the same reason I quit offering my services to the public. But if someone asked me I still would work on it. But I also have the choice of saying no. Thank you for sticking around KZfaq for the rest of us. Many happy ales to you and your family.

Years of being in customer service has taught me that the general public leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to human interaction...and I'm sorry you had to shut it down (but I'm ELATED that you're still gonna do KZfaq for us DIY'ers) :] Keep up the good work, buddy - lots of us love your videos (and beer critiques lol)

Don't blame ya man. I just played with my snowblower with the help of your videos. After the third time of RR, it working sweet. Until someone does it themselves and realizes what it takes. then they will respect the knowledge you have. It's hard to get into a great shop like yours as they are usually swamped to the nines.
