Arguably any modification could and often will devalue the bike for resale purposes. However, who wants to keep something stock? Takes all the fun out of it IMO... If you love the new speedo, just keep the original speedo showing the original miles up to the point of replacing it with the new one. Fully disclose the change and actual miles when/if you decide to sell it. BTW glad I discovered your channel. You've made some really nice mods to your bike. Look forward to seeing your future videos.

Hey Jeff! Loved your comment! 🙏 Thanks! That’s exactly how I thought after all. I thought I bought this bike for experiments and not to maximise its resale value for another guy. So I kept the speedo and I am absolutely happy that I did. It looks incredible. I still need to finish the configuring. It doesn’t show the speed correctly until calibrated.

@@thesundayridesthat's absolutely the way. I've ummed and arred about similar prospects but ended up settling with the mindset that the bike is for me, right now! It's an instant classic and HOPEFULLY *fingers crossed* it can survive long enough for my boy to inherit when he's old enough to get a licence and needs a bike of his own. It's a beautiful bike. It can only get better with contributions from riders. Make it your own 💪🏼

@@TheContiGT thanks and that’s exactly what I decided in the end. This is one of the few things in life that is mine and only and I should enjoy it as much as I can in every possible way. Also, I think about it as a blank canvas for customisation. I can’t imagine an artist, who is worried too much about the resale value of the canvas to start drawing… :) so be it! The speedo is on it!

Hello, Just watched this video. Your bike your call, however,,,,, personally speaking I'd go back to standard for this item and use the money for fuel/accommodation instead. But that's just me. I think the bike looks fantastic as is. Cheers Keith

Hi Keith! Thanks a lot! I got that speedo at a bargain price, almost 20% of its worth so there was an opportunity and I took it. I like how it looks, but……… we will see

Good Morning Max. Unfortunately I don't think you can add your existing mileage to the new cluster and then back to the original unit. It would be seen as tampering with the original mileage. I had to get the dial changed on my Rebel earlier this year and faced the same problem (mine was done under warranty). I photographed the mileage before the dial was changed and had the dealer (now gone into administration) give me a formal printed job sheet that showed that the dial had been changed by an authorized dealer and what the mileage was at the point of change. I keep this with the V5 document for future reference or if I sell the bike.

Good morning, @B0M0A0K! Oh, that doesn't sound good. I had a ride this morning with the new speedo and I absolutely blown away by the new look of the bike. Especially how it looks from the rider's perspective. No I really want to find the way of keeping it. I contacted a famous youtuber/instagrammer who has a custom Triumph Scrambler 900 and he didn't have a solution either. I will try contacting a few legal shops, who say they can do it, and I hope that ADDING mileage will not be see as tampering. Another idea I have is to attach the original unit and hide it somewhere. No idea where yet, but there are relocation mounts available. And finally, I thought I could make a speed sensor emulator device and and fast forward it. But frankly speaking this is only a concern for a resale value of the bike. I've invested so much time and love (not so much money) into this bike, so I will try to keep it for a long time. As a second bike may be.

@@thesundayrides I don't know how you would add mileage, but so long as you have photographic evidence of the original mileage at the point of change it can't be seen as tampering. I think your issue will be (if you find a way to add mileage) convincing DVLA or VOSA that the change was done in a way that doesn't breach one of their many rules. However, if you like the change there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't keep it. It's not illegal in itself and its your bike. So long as you can prove the authenticity of the mileage that should be all that matters.

@@B0M0A0K I still have the old unit so I can show it as a proof of the mileage that was on the bike before the swap. It’s not an elegant solution, but it should work. I am completely torn between keeping the unit I like and rolling back to the original for a sake of avoiding issues later

I like this as it would allow me to mount a bed roll ahead of the handlebars which actually makes for a pretty good wind block, but couldn’t this be done with the stock speedo?
@thesundayrides
@thesundayrides 9 ай бұрын
I think you can do that with a stock speedo. My motivation to replace it is non-functional. I am going for a very specific look of the bike.

as if you mount it under the headlight, not above it.

@@thesundayrides That’s actually what I meant. Can’t the stock speedo be mounted below the headlight? I like how it looks.

Hi, do you ask to baak for more informations about your device? You can add your current mileage to your Daytona but you can't add something in your original unit , until you make your own weel sender rotated whit a drill and a little bit thinking tools....not ideal but it works for me.....
@thesundayrides
@thesundayrides 9 ай бұрын
Yes, good idea, I need to ask them. Because if I can solve the first problem, at least it will be possible to sell a bike with this speedo. And thanks for the suggestion for the second problem. Can you explain your setup a bit further? Does it count the wheel revolutions? I thought may be it counts the revolutions of one of the shafts in the engine
@pascalbouldauduc4298
@pascalbouldauduc4298 9 ай бұрын
@@thesundayrides It only take the number of turning wheel revolution by the sensor on the weel spindle , nothing fancy, not science rocket, nothing else more... Sorry Max, I realise it's personal preference but you shouldn't in my opinion have changed the clocks, you have possibly lost hundreds of pounds on the resale value of your bike becouse of the milage discrepancy. I would if I was you put the original clocks back on and put it down to experience....A mod to far my friend..😢
@thesundayrides
@thesundayrides 9 ай бұрын
Hey Tony! Yeah, exactly, and this is why I got stuck. No idea, why the counter is still implemented in the clocks and not in the ecu. If ecu was counting, than any unit can display the value. I didn’t ride the bike since the upgrade, so I still have an opportunity to roll this back. However, I will do a bit more research and ask a few more people. If there is a solution to this, I have two counters. I can add one to another and there will be no discrepancy in mileage. Also, I guess I am finding reasons to keep this bike for a long time. If I cut the frame for a short loop - then that would be it. 0 resale value. I can free my mind and just enjoy the process
