I agree, the sound selection isn't the greatest. But you can have the best of both worlds. Live can host Maschine. But one of my favorite features involves the drum instrument. You can put multiple sounds on a channel, assign that channel to a hardware knob or fader. It could be used to audition one shots. I usually use it to audition drum parts during the drum track play back.

This is SYNCHRONICITY at its finest man. YOU were a BIG reason i bought the Maschine Mk3 back in 2021. I love it but i bought it mainly for finger drumming. When i found myself wanting to arrange and compose more i found the workflow really fun and natural but whenever id see what people are doing in Abelton id get fomo. But then id think of u and how far you pushed Maschine and would ignore it. Long story short LAST WEEK i made the decision to just get an Ableton Push 2 and make the switch. Maschine got me in the door but Ableton will take me up the stairs. I can feel it. I will 100% be following you on this journey. Congrats on the scholarship btw ✊🏾✊🏾💭

DANG GIRL!!! If you're already as high as you are and you're gonna augment that with Ableton and , even more, focused and formal education-I can only imagine you rising as a kingpin in the industry! Congratulations and looking forward to seeing where you go with your career, who you bring along with you, and of course, to hearing the music that you make along the way. As an aside, I started with Cakewalk and Soundforge back in the mid 90s, then to Sonar and Fruity Loops, added on Reason, then Cubase, then Rewiring FL Studio and Reason (and sometimes Sonar-maybe? I forget if Sonar rewired into Cubase....) into Cubase, then Logic, and now Ableton (although I had used Ableton for about a year in the 2000s). And I still use Logic by the way because it has some great sounds. So yeah, I'm old AF!!! lol Ableton is the business, but they all have their perks. ;) Anyway, cheers everyone and stay inspired! 🙏

The important part to note is that Maschine, by Native Instruments' own definition, is not a DAW. I started using Maschine via the Maschine Studio in 2016. My DAW of choice up to that point was Reason (which, by the way, has grown by leaps and bounds and is a slept on beast these days). In the pandemic, I decided to explore a number of DAWs during the pandemic and realized that all the main DAWs all do a lot of the same things, just a different way. The ONLY thing that set them all apart in a real way was their audio warping algorithm. Using Maschine alongside your DAW of choice will make you unstoppable, and Ableton is a monster of a DAW, so you're going to have SO MUCH FUN creating. I'm so happy for you!
@WarrenPostma

People argue and argue over semantics, but this is true. Maschine is not a DAW, it's a groovebox. Maschine is great because of what it is and because of what it's not trying to be. When all you have is a hammer, everything be lookin like a nail. You need you a hammer, and you need you a screwdriver, both, and.

Some of my favourite ableton features are the way the automation works and being able to draw curves, The groove pool (especially for boombap drums), the note expression tab (dope for 808 slides)..... and of course the audio warping. I swapped from FL to Ableton and haven't looked back. Aside from the fresh feel from learning something new, the work flow is incredible. I bought a push 2 and it has made me create some of the best and hardest beats I've made in easily the last 10 or so years. You're gonna love it if you don't already. I can't wait to see the wild stuff you do with the sampling capabilities. Ohh, I also have a dope percussion automation thing? (I don't know how to explain it) I can send you to play with. Basically, you use drum rack, drop your perc into the rack and create a midi channel "holding each button down" for the length of your perc loop. It'll randomly select and play the perc sounds. I even set up some maco knobs so you can change up and play with the groove it's creating. It's all ableton stock stuff, I'd be more than happy to send over. Ableton is insane, you're gonna love it, i know it.

That's ironic for me to watch this since I just got a Maschine MK3 randomly, after having had played with the software for a year now. The last 3 days I've just been studying and mastering the Maschine, NOT SO I CAN SWITCH TO IT, but so I can integrate it into my current Logic and Ableton workflow. Since I'm pretty fluent in Ableton and Logic, I know exactly their strengths & weaknesses, and I use both in my workflow to balance them out. And now with this new knowledge of Maschine hardware and software, I'm like floating right now with so many ideas! Good luck on your Ableton journey! You're gonna find a lot of stuff very similar to Maschine, but different, and hopefully you can integrate both in your workflow! As producers, we're like computer programmers, but with music. You gotta learn every industry standard language, so this is the step in the new direction. Only ProTools is left to learn now, and then actual old school analog consoles!

I couldn't get Live to be stable so that chapter didn't last long for me.. but the crazy part about that arrange view.. is you can perform your clips with a launchpad and the arranger records your performance from session view . Mutes, drops, clips, scenes , the whole 9 and etc etc You literally perform it into the arranger. mind blown.

I'm an FL user and I decided to give Maschine a try since buying the Maschine Mikro. This was also around the time I started learning Live as well. So far I'm loving live so much that I pretty much stopped using Maschine entirely.

I’m still trying to understand the Maschine VST3/Ableton integration. But either way I’m changing DAW’s too cause Jamie makes it look so easy. I’m excited to learn together at 1500!! Dope content definitely subscribing

Sarah, up side for your NI sounds is that you just import your folders in to the Ableton and boom, there you have it. All the Maschine Extensions etc.

I love Ableton Suite especially using it with Push 2, using it with a Push really makes it a complete experience. I agree with Maschine having a lot of great sounds but the Ableton Suite does have 70 gigs of content and there’s a lot more you can buy. I also use Logic, ProTools and Mpc hardware and software. At the end of the day it’s like having different tools inside your toolbox and some tools are better for some jobs than others. And speaking of tools, Serato just added stem to Serato Sample and imo opinion it’s a real game changer on top of everything else we have available. Anyway enjoy your Ableton journey and don’t forget all the apps that support Ableton link, especially all the IPad apps.

"Groove Extraction". Instead of quantizing a break to the grid, you create a grid based on the natural human feel of a break. Then, you can actually apply that grid or "Groove" to anything else [midi or audio]. That's something else that Maschine cannot do.

@@Sarah2ill Ableton can do a lot with their Warping. They used to call it "elastic audio". I've been an Ableton user since 2005.

I am sure you probably already know this, but when you add Maschine into Ableton as a vst, you can just straight up drag any sample from the Maschine one shot menu or the loop menu onto an audio track in Ableton. Might make finding Maschine samples to use in Ableton faster for you. Also learning Abletons routing for midi and audio is super useful. You can get arpeggiated MIDIs from certain vsts as full on MIDI recordings in Ableton when set up correctly.

You are right in that Ableton's built in sounds could be better but the synths, samplers, and effects themselves are of high quality and over the years Ableton have made decent improvements in their sound catalog.

When I got back into making beats again about 5 years ago I stared using Ableton. I'm a older dude and I started out on the MPC 2000 over 20 years ago, and always felt limited to what I could do when compared to the music I had playing in my head. With all the new tech I feel so free now because all the constraints have been removed as far as for sample time is concerned. And all sounds banks availability I can finally recreate what's in my head 100%. I'm not trying to make it big at 50 years old, but I just love making music and it's just part of who I am. Best wishes to you @Sarah2ill and all the best on luck on your journey and a music creator.
