Karl Urban said in an interview. “I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took off his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that’s not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We’re doing it right, it’s gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It’s gonna kick ass.” Yes it did Mr Urban and us Dredd Fans appreciate you for performance.

Rewatching this scene, I like the little detail of the quick transition from when Dredd orders incendiary and pulling the trigger. There's no hesitation, no dramatic aiming, no pause. Dredd knew exactly what he was going to do and how, and he executed it flawlessly.

I still think getting a little more character development on MaMa would've been nice.. but I guess in the end she didn't matter. Like Dredd said, she's a common criminal. Even if she thinks she's a bigshot, even if she's the boss of this megablock.. in the grand scheme of things she's just another criminal. just another target for Dredd to take out. They should've made a sequel. The cinematography, the direction, the acting, the writing, the faithfullness to the comics.. everything was excellent. I feel the reason this didn't do so great in the boxoffice is that they felt it needed to be packaged with the 3D gimmick that people have already gotten tired of. In theatres, it wasn't "Dredd", it was "Dredd 3D". Just that alone probably pushed a bunch of people away because when you throw the gimic in to the title it gives the impression they're just trying to rely on the 3D aspect for the movie to actually be entertaining.. wich with Dredd was certainly not the case.

I think we got juuust enough on Mama. Same as we got just enough on Dredd, and Anderson. She was a criminal, but also part of the meat that Mega City 1 ground up. Which was a bit of a theme throughout the whole film. She was basically broken, but also a survivor, and the film showed that in all sorts of little ways, very adroitly I thought. Really wish the Netflix series with Urban returning had panned out.

That is the thing. The events of this movie aren't a special occasion for Dread. For him it was a Tuesday at the office. He deals with hundreds of Mama's and Peach Trees each year. He'll be worked up when something really special happens, like undead judges for another existence that are hellbent on ending all life as their means of preventing crime.

I think one of the best aspects of this movie was the decision to make Ma-Ma really just a very common criminal. She's not a super-genius, she's not a supernatural being or a cyborg. She's the petty warlord of one megastructure, just a drug kingpin who happens to be extremely sadistic and violent. In her little world of Peach Trees, Ma-Ma believes she is the law. She has no idea what kind of one-man apocalypse Dredd is.
