The Seekers were a group of musicians from Melbourne, Australia who came together in 1962. The recording was made during a Melbourne performance during their 25 Year Silver Jubilee Reunion Celebration tour in 1993.
Lead vocals: Bruce Woodley (guitar) & Judith Durham
Other vocals: Athol Guy (double bass) & Keith Potger (twelve string guitar)

Positive. Here is one of the verses. When gallant Cook from Albion sail'd, To trace wide oceans o'er, True British courage bore him on, Till he landed on our shore. Then here he raised Old England's flag, The standard of the brave; With all her faults we love her still, "Brittannia rules the wave!"

***** and another. Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast, Or dare a foot to land, We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore To guard our native strand; Brittannia then shall surely know, Beyond wide ocean's roll, Her sons in fair Australia's land Still keep a British soul. In joyful strains the let us sing "Advance Australia fair!"

I was born in England and came here as a ten pound pomme with my Mum and Dad when I was 5. I am now 70 and have experienced floods, droughts, heat, flies and bushfires. I have seen Australia grow, and have seen her people struggle to eek out a living, while never giving up. I have seen her young men go off to war too many times. But this song to be epitomizes everything that is Australian. I am proud to call myself an Australian.

I came to live in Australia in 2011. And I one thing that I want to say is that I'm grateful to Australia for accepting me. Really great people here. They are the most sincere and open people in the world. Not the most soft-speaking and a bit rough around the edges at times, but definitely genuine, straight and hard working ones, they are. I'm proud to call myself an Aussie.

I really am glad to hear that. I loved it too, but hated the way their native people were treated - worse than happened in Nazi Germany but because of the way it was done , it was acceptable- same in Canada etc., etc., Anyway, like all my friends at the time ("80s) we all had a good time , and worked hard while on Oz but nothing could compare to Irish people and culture , so we returned Been back twice and although loved the out back and sea . The political situation leaves a lot to be desired along with now being one of the most expensive places to live . So we feel here, like you do that we live in the best country in the world. ❤

I came from the dream-time From the dusty red-soil plains I am the ancient heart The keeper of the flame I stood upon the rocky shores I watched the tall ships come For forty thousand years I've been The first Australian I came upon the prison ship Bowed down by iron chains I bought the land, endured the lash And waited for the rains I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife On a dry and barren run A convict, then a free man I became Australian I'm the daughter of a digger Who sought the mother lode The girl became a woman On the long and dusty road I'm a child of the Depression I saw the good times come I'm a bushie, I'm a battler I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" I'm a teller of stories I'm a singer of songs I am Albert Namatjira And I paint the ghostly gums I'm Clancy on his horse I'm Ned Kelly on the run I'm the one who waltzed Matilda I am Australian I'm the hot wind from the desert I'm the black soil of the plains I'm the mountains and the valleys I'm the drought and flooding rains I am the rock, I am the sky The rivers when they run The spirit of this great land I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" "I am, you are, we are Australian"

It's just 1 min more than our national anthem and we don't even sing the whole song anyway we could just sing the chorus or something. But it's true this is much better than our national anthem, but I think they are keeping it because it has been our national anthem for over 43 years. If this song was written in 1973 I think it would have definitely been our national anthem.

I live in America and I was learning about Australia in class. They played the song for us and at the end of the song everyone was singing, "We are Australian!" And Amy, the only person in my class who was actually from Australian was like, "You're not Australian!" She had her own Q&A session, it was cool. :D

Was that concert in Brisbane? I saw them in Adelaide but my wife was back in the Philippines so I took her to Brisbane weeks later for what I'm pretty sure was their last concert. It deserves to be our national anthem by far but how would you compress a 4.5 minute song with all it covers into under a minute for an anthem?

I came from the dream-time, from the dusty red soil plains I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame. I stood upon the rocky shore, I watched the tall ships come. For forty thousand years I’ve been the first Australian. We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I came upon the prison ship, bowed down by iron chains. I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains. I’m a settler, I’m a farmer’s wife on a dry and barren run A convict then a free man, I became Australian. We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I’m the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road I’m a child of the depression, I saw the good times come I’m a bushy, I’m a battler, I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I’m a teller of stories, I’m a singer of songs I am Albert Namatjira, I paint the ghostly gums I am Clancy on his horse, I’m Ned Kelly on the run I’m the one who waltzed Matilda, I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I’m the hot wind from the desert, I’m the black soil of the plains I’m the mountains and the valleys, I’m the drought and flooding rains I am the rock, I am the sky, the rivers when they run The spirit of this great land, I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian I am, you are, we are Australian. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SHARE ONE OF MY BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE IN AUSTRALIA. We were new here in 2004 just moved from U.A.E. as we are originally Indians but were living in U.A.E for 20 plus years and all kids were born and brought up there. When my eldest son was 18 yrs old and my husband decided to move some secure and good country for kids future...and so we decided to move to Australia, and we were here than on Business and investors Visa.. My youngest Daughter was than 7 yrs old and was in Grade 2, She attended her School, it was her first or second week in new School in Australia,.. and Teacher in Class was teaching them "THAT WE ARE ALL AUSTRALIAN, WE SHOULD RESPECT OUR COUNTRY, WE SHOULD LOVE OUR COUNTRY". and my Daughter told her Teacher ,I am not AN AUSTRALIAN, I was born in MID-EAST, I AM AN INDO-ARAB GIRL....WHY SHOULD I LOVE THIS COUNTRY, MY FRIENDS ARE ALL IN MID-EAST,...I AM ALL ALONE IN HERE,....I HATE TO BE HERE, her Teacher called me and told me about what had happened in the classroom, I explained her ,we have just moved here, she misses everything she had left back, KINDLY PLEASE help me and my Daughter.. The Teacher was so much AMAZINGLY GOOD, UNDERSTANDING my situation , she immediately told OK "MRS R" you don't worry we will take care of this, WE are TRAINED to handle this SITUATION and she promised me "YOUR DAUGHTER WILL START CALLING HERSELF SOON I AM AN AUSTRALIAN GIRL." I THANKED HER, but was still worried how can I help my girl feel home here , BUT to my amaze when she came home from school, she was different and was so much HAPPY, telling me MOMMY my Teacher "MRS BROWN" have given me a singing part in my School Concert... I have to learn this SONG, come mother help me memorize this part of song... I told ok what's the song is show me... and this was the song. The words of this song made me cry.. .it made me ALSO feel that we belong here.. and made me love this country more n more n more forever.. "WE ARE ONE BUT WE ARE MANY AND FROM ALL THE LAND OF EARTH WE COME WE SHARE A DREAM AND SING WITH ONE VOICE "I AM , YOU ARE, WE ARE AUSTRALIAN" and really from that time my girl started making new Friends in school , she started to stay HAPPY.. I THANKED TO TEACHER AND TOLD HER I AM REALLY VERY GRATEFUL TO HER. I APPRECIATE HER KINDNESS.. she had given me so big huge PEACE of mind and soul... MAY SHE GETS ALL THE BLESSINGS OF GOD FOREVER N EVER FOR HER. .no words can thank her ... cant thank her in words... now my Girl is working with Bank full time and studying her masters and she is so happy ,calling her self a proud AUSTRALIAN GIRL... A seven years old girl is now 25 years old ...she don't even remember how was the Country where she was born, she call AUSTRALIA IS MY COUNTRY, AUSTRALIA IS MY HOME, AUSTRALIA IS ONLY LAND I KNOW IN THIS WORLD... HOPE EVERYTHING IN OUR LIFE GOES WELL N HAPPY I JUST WISH THIS ... . her graduation clip is in my page... shared there ...

I recently had the privilege of hearing this song performed by the Bushwackers, led by Dobe Newton, one of the writers of this beautiful, poignant song. I had never heard it before. I am migrant, I've been here for 24 years. listening to him singing these incredible lyrics, tears welled up in my eyes. I have never felt more connected to this amazing land and all it's people. when a song can evoke that kind of emotion for your country, it definitely deserves to be considered a national anthem. I think an abridged version could be unbelievable. I can so picture this being sung in a stadium before a sporting event, with real passion and emotion. the current anthem unfortunately has none of that. this song is it for me. I can't believe that Rugby Australia chose to sing waltzing matilda before wallaby test matches instead of this song. in terms of evoking national pride I've never experienced anything even close to the emotion i feel for Australia when i hear this song.
