Sorry, had to pause the video to just say: it is more difficult to get into schools because our generation is much more educated than previous ones, going to college is the norm for most kids and applying to certain schools has become mainstream. That's why colleges receive up to 100k+ applications and have such low acceptance rates. Also, international students (wich in most schools are 10%) are needed to mantain the image of America as the best Accademic country in the world, wich result in the US keeping their desireability and power internationally. And often they chose people who want to use the skills they learned back in their country, making it better and helping development (keep in mind that the US slowed development is many countries, by "exporting" democracy). So actually, having international students is one thing you all should be proud of, instead of making it seem like "international students are taking our spots". Sorry, i'm not mad at you, just thought i shoud point this out.

So true! Most schools have such a small percent of international students. It’s really misinformed to say they are taking up spots.

Deedster007 if you look at the data (which I did after receiving the first comment) approximately 15-25% of students at UCSD, UCLA, OSU, UC Davis, USC, UCI, Purdue, Boston, UW and Berkeley are all international students. I would strongly recommend UC Davis if you’re hoping to go down the medical route. UCD is a great school with amazing academics and will definitely prepare you for med school. It would be nice if you were accepted off the waitlist for UCSD as well, but UCD is a great school!

Lol I don’t usually comment but I was honestly in the same boat as you last year. I was choosing between UW and UCD for neurobiology (pre-med/pre-health) and eventually I chose Davis! We all make fun of it because it’s cowtown but I do have a lot of fun here and really found my community. Davis wasn’t my first choice at all, yet I’m so glad I chose it. It’s very science based here (and not just agriculture like we have a whole college dedicated to biological sciences) but everyone is super nice and hardworking. For me, I chose Davis over UW because I didn’t want to wait 2 years before even making sure I can technically really be a neurobiology major and Davis was already cheaper bc I’m a CA resident. Hope this helps and good luck with whichever college you go to!

I was once told a degree is a degree no matter what. It doesn’t matter where you got it from but it shows that you put hard work into that degree and it’s what you do with that degree that matters. For example my dad went to a State college in his home state and makes more money then some of his friends/acquaintances that went to Ivy League schools or schools really hard to get into. Some of those people he works with 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it’s up to you to decide what to do with that degree. Congrats on your college admissions! Randomly came across this vid but I’m a University of Washington student and know people at Davis as well and both schools are great but competitive as an undergrad. UW will challenge you but nothing that someone who is accepted can’t handle. Doesn’t rain in North Seattle as much as it’s advertised and I’m a South Seattle native (where it seems to rain more). Both schools are great and if you are into Greek life, UW is the way to go. Both schools offer great resources but prestige wise, UW is a little more prestigious because of medical and research, but Davis’ weather is for sure better and that can attribute to a more upbeat experience. Good luck with the decisions!

I walked around UCD campus yesterday and didn't like it...The buildings were all outdated (w/ the exception of the welcome center area). Classrooms were depressing (some were windowless, fluorescent lighting, chalkboards, old hard desks). There weren't as many food places around the campus as I have seen at other schools. It was a large campus however and pretty quiet and laid-back. Students do seem to like it.

My son went to Montana Tech in Butte Montana and got a petroleum engineering degree and he makes double, even triple the money people make who graduated from the so called high sididy universities. And Montana Tech is inexpensive..

Mark Soldiers : that’s great your son is doing well . I hear you . For example if you want to be a physical therapist it does not matter if you go to a state college vs fancy private school . A licensed PT can get a job anywhere . I am a licensed speech language pathologist / went to state schools in Pennsylvania for undergrad and grad school . I can get the same job and salary as a private college $$$ graduate ( minus the massive loans ) . A license is a license . Other degrees like business / Harvard vs state school - now that can make a difference

Sorry, this is the first video of yours I’ve seen so I don’t know where you’re from. When I applied to college four years ago, I wasn’t really thinking about cost, just the prestige of the school. But I’m in California and I’m so glad I chose a UC because in-state tuition is literally half the price. Even if you can afford the more expensive one you might as well save the money, I now realize that it’s so unnecessary to spend twice the price to get the same degree. Especially if you’re torn between the two, I would say stay in state if that’s an option.

Emma Bishoff i live in Sacramento (40 mins from Davis) so the closeness is definitely a factor. And I applied for Food Science and Davis is one of the best programs in the country. And I really like the city of Davis too :)

The UC system is tough! Been watching these college acceptance videos and the UC's keep rejecting everyone. UCI doesnt reject, they simply waitlist people from my understanding, just letting you know so you dont wait around for that school:/

lildred there is restrictive and non-restrictive so I only applied to one restrictive (Stanford) and the rest were not restrictive!

lildred Early Decision is binding ( you would have to go there ). Early Action is Non-binding ( you’d just get your decision before the people who apply for regular decision

It’s getting harder because of people like you who apply to 22 schools!!! The more applicants they get the harder it is to get in obviously. I only applied to 5 schools that I could see myself going to.

therealimpossible I’m glad that five schools worked for you but this is what worked for me! I actually cut the list down a lot so in the end I was upset I didn’t apply to more because I had no idea where I wanted to go. Also it wasn’t just on a whim because I had competitive scores and I had a good chance at getting into 90% of the schools I applied to.

Emma Bishoff If I may make a recommendation. Finances are a big part of school so go wherever you’ll get the best education for the lowest cost. And pre-med and bioengineering are completely different so do you want a job out of school that pays well (engineering) or to do more schooling with a decent salary out of school if you don’t go to med school right away (pre-med). But ideas change day to day just make sure you find out everything you can about your decision, work hard at it, and stick with it. Also, check the job market. There may always be a want for doctors but bioengineering seems like a more difficult to find job opportunity. Good luck!

From someone from WA who knows people at UW, I would not recommend it. They have to lock the balcony doors during finals week because so many students have tried to kill themselves during finals weeks bc the teachers are so awful :(

True plus the weather during the summer isn’t realistic on what it’s like during the majority of the year! If you have seasonal affective disorder, Seattle is the worst! So excited to be heading to cal poly slo!!!

yes UW is a good school but it’s a very competitive and stressful environment so take that into consideration. Some type of people thrive in that environment and it all depends on the person but congrats on your acceptances (they’re all great schools) !!
