U do know not every person you’ll date you’ll get married too right and not everyone wants to marry the person they’re dating right away. Dating doesn’t mean marriage
Ofc but stating you're okay to "date" foreigners but not marry them especially in SK is kinda rude... I talk with experience usually it means to only "have fun" with foreigners and not have any serious relationship with them, more dating as an experience bc we're "exotic"... Obviously not every koreans think that way but sadly a lot of them do... Same mindset of the "open-minded" foreigner :( @@brennathecatlover4360

Back when I was a teenager, I was totally obsessed with K-pop and K-dramas, and I was determined to make my way to South Korea. I used to binge-watch videos, fantasizing about the day I'd actually get to date a Korean guy. Fast forward a bit, and I decided to dive into learning Korean and eventually made me go to Korea. Let me tell you, it was a total culture shock. Reality hit hard - not every guy I met there was like the charming leads in those dramas. And not even that. I wasn't even treated like a normal human being most of the time. While there were some great ones, it's vital to keep it real. We're kinda doing a disservice to wide-eyed teens like my younger self if we don't talk about the fetishization. And here's the deal: dating in Korea can sometimes come with a side of fetishization, especially if you're a white woman. Chances are they just want you for one night. They want to have an adventure with. And marry a Korean girl. If not, then they might just want to practice English with you. Besides, you'll forever be "the foreigner," and that can be a mixed bag. So, you might just want to enjoy K-pop, K-dramas, and Korean food in your own country. Keep the dreamy stuff for the screen and your local Korean BBQ.

Yep. I had a similar thing happen. I'm probably 5-10 years older than you, because for me it was when jrock/visual kei was mildly popular in the 2000s, I went to a lot of concerts and learned some Japanese. When I worked in Japan after college, most of the dating experiences were like you said. Lots of fetishists, weirdos, guys who lie because they really just wanna hookup, etc. I did find someone willing to marry me eventually, but after 6 months into marriage, he became physically abusive and it was at that point his mom started finally telling me about his bad past. It still took me until the four year mark of the marriage to divorce. I would have stayed in Japan, but with needing to change home and job to ensure not getting stalked and then at the same time, Covid appeared. I left Japan just before lockdowns. I know that in Asia there are a lot of WMAF couples so you think it's fine to do so too, but be careful. Foreign women are seen as loud, promiscuous/easy, rude, and just not good marriage material, so there are much fewer AMWF/AMXF couples. I'd say probably 90-95% of mixed couples are specifically White men with Asian women.
@silvervixen0077 ай бұрын
@@stephsteph4503 omg I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you'll feel better now! Yeah, I forgot about the stalking, controling, macho side I saw as well! I had guys lie to me about their relationship status. Some were already married with kids but still wanted to sleep with me. It was so disgusting. And I am an introvert, I don't go to clubs, talk to strangers on the streets or even dating apps. Again, totally different reality. Also yeah most couples are definitely White men with Asian women.
@maya_jones34117 ай бұрын
That depends on what kind of white woman lol. *Beautiful* white women are much more likely to be taken more seriously for a relationship in Korea than any other group of people.
@stephsteph45037 ай бұрын
@@maya_jones3411 ...Are you implying we are ugly? Definitely I'm not, although I will admit in Japan, and probably also in Korea, specifically having blonde hair and blue eyes is most coveted, enough so that there are men who will only date women with blonde hair and blue eyes, if that's what you mean.

Both women and men should be very straightforward and honest when it comes to this type of stuff... There are lots of people who are only interested in fooling around and get laid exclusively with one person for quite some time, but there are others who invest their soul when having a partner, so if you aren't planning on being serious about the relationship just say it! You avoid having people being clingy and emotionally dependant on you, and the other party avoids heartbreaks. By the way, I'm curious about why do they think that cultural differences will be noticed only if they get married, but not when dating... And the communication issue doesn't necessarily has to do with language, but the way we express emotions; let's say they meet someone who can speak good Korean or maybe they can speak English or another language and still there can be problems to understand one another. I enjoy watching this kind of content cause is really interesting; keep it up!
@CoolNumber17 ай бұрын
Cultural differece is not an issue if a foreign girl live in Korea long enough, she would start to act korean.
@lemontea4177 ай бұрын
it could be a bloodline issue or that their family would only want korean partners, I know there's still a sentiment of some sort of betrayal, perhaps, when you marry and have kids with someone not the same race as you family is most people's first priority in asia, so parents and other family members' opinions matter quite a lot, especially since koreans usually live with their parents until they get married (a new house is often a wedding gift from families to the newlyweds)

Marriage and dating are very different, so there will be more noticeable cultural differences.
@rebeccaavoca91437 ай бұрын

@VilmaMks7 ай бұрын
@@jiminswriter4209 I understand dating and marriage are different; nowadays most people is so "open minded" that practically live together while being boyfriend and girlfriend, so why do they talk about the cultural differences being too much only when getting married? I'm pretty sure those problems they refer to, arise during the dating stage even if one of the parties is more conservative and don't get to experience living together; that sounds more like not wanting to have a real relationship with someone who is a foreigner instead. Some of them said that if they really liked the person they're dating, they would marry them even if they weren't Korean which means they understand that life can get tough because of those differences, but it's okay cause they plan to figure things out together. Besides is kinda funny, cause if cultural differences were the biggest problem then people who marry others with the same culture wouldn't have any problem when married... I'm genuinely curious about what people talk about nowadays when dating cause the original purpose is figuring out if the other party is reliable enough to create a family with and spend life together, but oh well.

And I'm 44 years old and happily married for 16 years 😂.... I know, UNREAL. But quickly I came back to reality and it's all good. None of us will be totally accepted... Cultural gap and language always seem be a theme/reason for not getting in a relationship with a foreigner. What people don't seem to realize is that language and cultural are learned behaviors. We aren't born with either of these. We learn these in the society that we grow up in. Anyone can learn and adapt to a different culture or language if they really want to. It takes work and determination. Just like a relation where both people who have the same language or culture.

Dear boys and men, first I'm from Europe living in Paris. I have universal friends from everywhere. When it comes to LOVE and MARRIAGE there's no "BUT". If you love someone that's it there's no but or culture or how rich or poor, famous or not. I've dated poor and very rich and also famous. All have issues. Love doesn't discriminate, love doesn't care about looks... I think we are all humans, nobody is perfect. We all have issues but one thing we all have in common is we all have a ♥. In the end you want someone who is kind, compassionate, and caring and of course the looks is nice but it's not the most important. I met people who were super models, famous and stupid so don't think about yourself like that, that you are not attractive or good looking. What I find a turn off in people is character and attitude. Someone who is pretty and rude is already a turn off. Girls like funny, considerate and caring boys. Vulnerability is okay too but don't be weak. Strong if you needed and vulnerable if you have to speak the truth. Pretentious is a no no. Arrogance is a no no. Liars are a no no. Abusive is a no no. Disrespectful is a no no. Being lazy is a No no. And most importantly hygiene. You need to be clean, nice smelling and healthy. Boys should be boys and girls should be girls. Mutual respect is important! No matter which country you are from love language is the same. There's no barrier when it comes to love. Have faith and confidence in yourself and you are all going to be fine. Positive attitude is also important don't be negative about yourself. Be kind to yourself. P. S. I don't like most celebrities I think most of them are not so bright. 😬

It is so funny.. I am Finnish - born and raised in Finland - but I have lived in many countries on several continents later in life and I never even once tought that there would be a reason I could not date or marry someone from another culture.. I have dated people who were interesting as individuals no matter what their background (culture, religion, ethnicity) was. And ofcourse communication is important, but you can learn and become better understanding each other in practice.. So I think it would be better to think of meeting an interesting individual than a representative of another culture. But their point of views were interesting to hear. So thanks for this! 🙂

This is a very idealistic list. There no way any man in this video would take zendaya cardi b, sza or Beyoncé to meet their family. Ariana Grande yes, Billie Ellish absolutely but any women who has black/African in her would not be accepted and most of the these men wouldn’t have the guts to stick by the women they supposedly love. Social and parental judgement is too strong on Korea. The reality is most of these men will date and marry Korean women. A white or Asian foreigner at a push… and the language barrier will have nothing to do with it. That’s fine just be honest.

I think that's an unfair generalization. I am black and married to a korean and my parent in laws were incredibly welcoming. I have many friends/acquaintances that are darker than me and same story. Yes, there are some old fashioned people and beauty standards favor white women (which is wild because they apply these standards to themselves too) but not everyone is as close-minded as you say. Please keep in mind the interviewees are very young and influenced by media and lack of life experiences. Many have an ideal type because it's nothing but that, an idea.
@IzumiIkeda7 ай бұрын
How about you not generalize all Koreans as being racist. Because that is indeed racist on your part. I'm quite sure you don't like people generalizing you. There are a few different reasons why non Korean Asians and Caucasian Korean couples are a lot more common. But many black Korean couples already exist you know. And I think both Cardi b and Billie Ellish likely would not be too accepted by many Koreans because of their manners alone.

I love how it's all good when it comes to dating but communication all of a sudden becomes a problem when it comes to marriage that's the most uneducated answer I have ever heard although Korean men are very handsome my curiosity isn't that deep I will stick to guys in the UK ❤

Great question..... I was always curious as a non Korean about this question. I was surprised so many liked Ariana Grande (Latina) type. From watching so many Kdramas it made me wonder what it would have been like for me if I were 20 years younger and single in your country. Thank you for sharing the cultural perspective in your country 🙏. Very interesting! I hope to see this theme as a kdrama one day.

What century are we in that parents need to approve. If you love someone and want to marry you should do it. Korea has a long way to go.
@sandboxlover20787 ай бұрын
Not really, family is a very important part of most cultures therefore parent approval matters a lot, and also why would you want to marry someone your family doesn’t approve of
@EricaElaineHarris7 ай бұрын
@@sandboxlover2078I think ideally but some parents disapprove for superficial reasons. That can definitely be a thing in Korea with what I’ve heard from my Korean friends.

I think what makes me most nervous or hesitant is not being accepted by his parents if it were to become serious. I'm not one who prefers surprises or wasting time not knowing. This happened to me while dating an Indian man,he said his parents prefer he was with an Indian girl or married to one. Love is love, and I hope one day foreigners are more accepted by the parents.

So, I'm curious about some things: Some state "difference in culture" as a possible issue. Does this include foreigners and mixed individuals born and raised in South Korea? Because one would assume such individuals would be more in tune with the culture over there. Not to mention the people who went over there for work and lived there long enough to be more in tune with the culture. I also wonder if they think of other Koreans who were raised outside of Korea as foreigners or not. Those who stated they just like Koreans, do they also include the ones growing up outside of Korea or not? What about Koreans who came back to Korea a long time ago and kept living there. Would they be considered as part of the equation to dating and/or marriage or not?

Higher chance if you're slender. You can see Ariana grande, just by being slender, she get so many votes. It seem they dont like chubby people or fat people.
