I agree. One gets used to one's lifestyle. At the same time, most strive to "upgrade" - whatever that means depends on each's perception of value. Ultimately, we must appreciate what we have regardless. Very cool video, Ghib! 👍

Money does not directly buy happiness, but new experiences, freedom, and flexibility of choices. Freedom from corporate shackles, doing jobs that you are not passionate and interested in. I can go out in the weekday afternoon and chill with my family, or doing some passion projects, which can lead to more fulfilled life.

Unless you are talking about some super investment profits or striking the lottery, money doesn't fall from the sky. What if being tied down by corporate shackles is the source for your money to maintain such luxurious lifestyle?

That's a good viewpoint at the end of the video Ghib! In scientific terms, this feeling is called "hedonic treadmill". Basically, humans will never feel satisfied and money could not bring us long-term happiness. We experience moments of happiness after getting/doing something new. This could be getting a new phone, a car or house etc. After that, this surge of happiness returns back to normal after a short period of time.
@GhibOjisan
@GhibOjisan 2 жыл бұрын
I’m trying to counter this by learning to enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like the sound of birds, healthy and nutritious food and time with friends and families😁
@JackThePro

@@GhibOjisan It seems that you have unlocked the solution to a happy life Ghib :) You are right, spending time with friends and families is important. In fact, a 75-year-old Harvard study (by Robert Waldinger) shows that the key to a happy life is not being rich or having a good career. It is the quality of relationships and having a good healthy social life with people you care about that matters the most. On a side note, enjoying simple pleasures of life helps too; which relates to mindfulness (derived from Buddhism).

This is probably my favourite video of yours. You summed it up beautifully. Money can buy temporary happiness, but lasting happiness comes from things you can't buy: Health! and great relationships with people you love. That's why we enjoy seeing you interact with your MIL so much 😂The thing to always remember is never to take those things for granted, and learn to nurture and cherish them. You're a good man Ghib-san! 🙌

Happiness comes from being needed (i.e. partner, kids, friends...), finding a purpose(s) in life (i.e. a meaningful job, volunteering, religion...) and health of cos. There is no point in having an abundance of money if this is achieved in exchange of time or health. There is no shame in pursuing the life of a billionaire but at what cost? Unless sponsored, BY ALL MEANS! LOL

Like yr video👍❤️. I like how you add light humour to it. The part when wifey said "why you give me so small piece". It was unexpected and I laughed out. Aiyoh you all ah, so funny. Then there's the confused MIL. There's also the ending part when you picked up the money that you dropped. Last last ending part, suddenly wifey became producer and asked whether you would do it again. When her voice suddenly came thro, it was unexpected but cute/ kawaii lah. Eh, BTW going for cheaper food, lifestyle or Sheng Siong nothing wrong hor. The boss of Sheng Siong who is a millionaire himself lives a humble and thrifty life you know....

Aiya there’s poor people who are happy too. Lots of $$$$ can make unhappiness go away for a while and you thought it’s happiness but when you get used to it, you realise you’re not really happy just “less unhappy”. What is important is to find out what really makes you happy like in the “The businessman and the fisherman” story.

You are so wise! Your insights at the end were pretty spot on. Those who think money will solve all their problems haven't experienced enough to realize otherwise. I was able to experience enough luxury to learn this lesson early on. Unfortunately most people never reach this point and so they live their entire lives chasing a phantom. The sooner the masses rid themselves of this illusion, the better this world will be because we are tearing this planet to shreds with an exploitative economic machine in pursuit of illusory happiness. It's become very ingrained in this materialistic global culture. “I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer.” - Jim Carrey

does money makes you happy? well its double edge sword to be honest. do we need money? yes to survive and to prolong our daily needs , but excessive money give you the chance to own , live , get things the mass populations can't. but ultimately it's up to your own judgement to decide if money really makes you happy..

@Chibineo. It's true, the more one has, the more one is anxious of losing it. Having expensive cars, homes to keep/run, so one is always 'on the treadmill' making sure even more higher income to keep to his lifestyle, this is a great stress itself. I have met retired American women who permanently 'live'/travel on ocean liners or 'live' in top London hotels. They've ALL their needs met, ie food, cleaning, security, nothing to maintain, etc.
