No, that is stupid. You can't get elite athlete strong by lifting random stuff. You get it by training like an elite athlete for years upon years, building your life around your identity as an athlete. If you want to say that the person with the best genetic potential to become the strongest person alive is not into strength sports, then you're probably right, but that is a completely different thing and has absolutely no bearing on one's occupation. But such speculation is gratuitous in the extreme anyway.

That's what I think with elite athletes and sports. I believe that many people can excell at something due to coordination, strength, genetics and/or injury resistance. Now, not everybody in the whole world will practice the sport in which they are most likely to succed. And, on the other hand, there are cases where people are just good at sports and they might succed at any. For example, former NBA player Nate Robinson was very good at American Football and also as NBA player (in my opinion. They guy was 1,75m, won two dunk contests and made a name of himself in the best basketball league in the world). Also, you might heard the story of an athlete and how she or he started in a different sport. Then there is the motivation, discipline, will and perseveration to train, which not everybody might have, and finally, to be lucky to be in the best position to be the best you can ever be (access to the sport, popularity in the country, equipment, couches, personal situation, family support). It is hard to be a champion regardless of drug use (which I don't support)

the strength in "slow" heavy max lifts like deadlifts and squats will carry over to Olympic lifts if absolute perfect proficiency and high volume training of Olympic lifts is there. Ilya ilyin recently described his training when he trained "Bulgarian style" during his teenage years which led him to be a world champ at 17. Hitting 170sn 216cj at 85kg bw. Do you know what the training consisted of? squat, clean & jerk, snatches and deadlifts. The highly successful Chinese system of the past 20 years also prominently featured deadlifts, done at weights heavy enough that back starts to round. 1-3rep max efforts! We all know that weightlifters all squat all day, but the deadlifting is lesser known. Both Soviet and Chinese systems also use a wide array of accessory exercises. Some to improve technique but many are straight up bodybuilding exercises.

@@oliverallen5324 the amount of upward movement in O lifts is actually much less than what newcomers assume. The whole "being fast" thing is a more about being fast to get under rather than being fast in pulling the bar up. This is obviously much more true of the clean & jerk. Someone fast and flexible should be able to drop into a front squat to get under a 70% deadlift. The amount of upward movement in the "2nd pull" is tiny. A couple of inches and it's about the same for the jerk too. Anyone can move fast over a couple inches. A 2016 Eddie hall included.

He seems to treat strongman as a sport where "you just have to be strong and then you win" when in reality its so much more than that. Strongmen have to compete in a huge variety of events that change contest to contest, competitions span multiple days, and very rarely does someone sweep every event. Strongman competitions are a points battle that spans days, not just two lifts that are identical every time. The training has to be massively broad to execute a large amount of movements extremely well, Lasha is undoubtedly incredibly strong and could be a solid strongman but he has in no way proven himself to have the adaptability that strongmen have to have to compete at the highest level

YAHya chafiq "Strict muscle strength" Idk if bouncing the weight of your belly is that strict
@mohawk33714 жыл бұрын
@@yahyachafiq4112 And what does Lasha use, if not 'muscle strength' when he C&Js 264kg? His psychic abilities? It's not a question of who uses 'muscle strength', but simply that different motions use different muscles, and different force over time profiles. Eddie trains sustained peak muscular force production over periods of seconds. Lasha trains much greater muscular force production, but over fractions of a second. Of course the C&J involves momentum. But you generate that momentum by exerting a huge force on the barbell over a very brief time ... with your 'muscle strength'. It's a question of how you define strength. In terms of momentary peak force ... Lasha wins. In terms of force sustained over a couple of seconds Eddie wins.

Every post is thoughtful. Thank you. Please consider a piece on application of weightlifting to football - it seems that more and more major programs are including/inserting power snatch, Overhead squat and - wait for it - SQUAT CLEANS in their programs, to enhance power output and strength through range of motion of each athlete. Kasha’s power output, his ability to recruit stabilizers through his body with enormous weights, translates to other dynamic sports more than strength training. Princeton Football about to revamp its program around these principals!

Thinking of lasha in strongman makes me think he'd be similar to Martins Licis. Very very technical and with excellent mobility, not the highest static strength on any one event but really takes advantage of his body and mobility to place high in almost all events.

I agree 100%. I have seen the powerlifters, strongmen, Highland games competitors, shot putters, basque lifters etc...there is no one that could lift the kind of weights that Lasha can move. None of these super equipped, short range squats.. Lasha squats as deep as possible for a man 6”6, 375 lbs and no supersuit. Puts more weight overhead than any human in the world right now. 220 kg snatch- no person has ever done this-especially with the ease he does it. Other sports are mostly equipped to the max. The shot putters might be as dynamic as the weightlifters but that would be the only ones close. Just 1 person’s opinion.

Three reasons I find hard to support the case of Lasha. 1) his C&J top is not the best in the world, everyone seems to have forgotten Leonid Taranenko 2) we all tend to focus on an outright power sport (weightlifting) when we should actually take speed out of the equation to measure muscle resistance instead and in this respect, taking into consideration the deadlift and standing press, look no further than Eddie Hall 3) if raw muscle resistance is what we are after, then shouldn't muscle weight be of great importance as well? If yes, then pound for pound, should be our method of comparison. I do not know who would top that comparison but I wouldn't be all too surprised if it happened to be female... However one name does pop up in my mind and it's none other than the Pocket Giant Naim Suleymanoglu

Wouldnt even be close to Hathor ... Lasha has refined two functional moves to perfection. He obviously has a big engine behind them but he isn't even close to Hathor. Honestly, not even close. Hathor can squat 450kgs, bench in excess of 260kgs, and is approaching a 500kgs deadlift. Being the best Olympic lifter is a great achievement but honestly, he is not competing against a big gene pool. I would argue that everyone that gyms at some point tried these three lifts (S.B.D), so the potential candidates are huge. Both are great athletes, Hathor is by far the strongest man in the world at the moment.

You're very impressionable and gullible/naive/irrationally thinking then. just good at olympic lifts, C&J and Snatch are two movements out of a hundred thousand lifts and don't come down to pure strength, it comes down to his technique mastery. megin na yet Eddie only won 1 major competition by only a small margin... Big Z won the Arnold 8 times and WSM 4 times it's the consistency of your performance that makes you the strongest of all time Eddie was only able to get so much and had to pull back because it would have killed him, yet he only won 1 world title... bottom line while Eddie will go down as one of the strongest Big Z remains the goat because of his consistency
@camerongray77674 жыл бұрын
Domrick Exactly, big z had no weakness, he was good at everything, for a long time too. Eddie has his run in a short period of time for a couple specific movements. But still Eddie is absolutely insane no doubt.
@meginna83544 жыл бұрын
@@domrick783 No, consistency of winning titles has nothing to do with being the strongest of all time, only variable that defines that is strength. Reason for Big Z's number of titles is because of career span and eras, half of his career was in a very weak era with barely any competitors, 2009 and after he was only equal to Shaw and they traded titles.
