I Bought 2x "UNTESTED" Grandstand Astro Wars.. Can I fix them?

I bought 2x Untested Grandstand Astro Wars from a seller on eBay.
We all know what "Untested" usually means..
Come Join me while I attempt to repair them.

I have just repaired an “invader from space” with the same fault. I can only assume we visited the same forum. Like you, I too could not find a 140v zener, but I had not thought of doing what you did. So after watching this video, I did exactly that. So thanks to you!

Thank you so much. I cant believe that a 140v diode is required for a 6 volt, battery operated gadget. I thought i misheard you until you started lining up diodes to make up the 140 volts. Amazing. Shows you how much i know.

I know these VFD devices run the display at quite high voltages, the 140v diode thing came from another channel.

I remembered having an upright space invaders but couldn’t remember. Woke up today with Grandstand in my head. Nice fix… :)

Thanks Jason. I've fixed quite a few of these types of games, and more recently I bought a broken 1up Street Fighter cabinet, which was faulty. After fixing the original faulty I convert it to play over 7,000 games if you didn't see that one.

Hello, the game was running on batteries, but I wanted to check if it works on the power supply and I gave it 7 or 9 volts, I don't remember exactly, and something burned, I watched most of the repair videos on YT. I replaced several elements, such as NEC transistor 2SD882, 2SC945 C945, but it still doesn't work, and I don't know what to do anymore - I don't know how to check if the integrated circuit hasn't burned, hmmm. When I turn it on from the battery, the 2SD822 transistor burns out. Or it was completely damaged, but I have a glimmer of hope that it wasn't ;/ ehhhh, I'm an electronics engineer :)

ive gotten lucky with untested stuff on ebay. it depends a lot on the seller being honest i guess. some can try to get over on you by saying its untested but not always.

I have same problem on my tablet can u tell me what transistor should i buy?

I'm fairly sure it was a 2SD882 transistor. It should have a marking of D882 on it. Hope that helps 👍

According to eBay dictionary: untested (adjective) (1) already tested (a) broken (b) dead (2) someone been there before you (a) unsuccessful prior repair attempt (b) missing screws
