Thanks for the content Phil. Part of the fun in this is learning about how the numbers stack up so its a bit of a shame when you sell "within the family" if that means you keep that part to yourself. No closure :)

My dad had 1 which he bought new back in 2008 a 2.4 petrol with startech extras had it 6 months and lost 12.5k on it and says its the best 12.5k he has ever spent getting rid of it. With 6k on the clock it had already had the clutch changed 2 twice. Both burnt out while trying to tow. 1 with a caravan the next one with an empty trailer. He did ask the dodge dealer to fit an uprated clutch and he would pay the difference as it was done under warranty but they would not do it. The lock indicators are factory standard ones the startech one's they offered were different. For towing my dad opted for something a bit more powerful and traded the jeep in for a new cayanne s 4.8 v8 back in 2009 which he has since changed in 2018 to a cayanne turbo.

Hiya, would you ever make a video sort of explaining the differences between copart and SYNETIQ and what you prefer? I may sign up to the latter next year along with copart but I am wondering on whether it’s worth it as people on trustpilot have a lot to say about things like stolen parts.
@SeriousAboutSalvage4 жыл бұрын
Copart usually have a little more choice, but treat you like crap if anything goes wrong (they cause more damage etc ) Synetiq gets my shout everyday, much nicer business to work with cheeper fees as well.

Good result if it turns out to be input shaft :-) A lot of people knock these but like you say what car doesn't have issues. Shame it's a petrol though. I'd like a diesel Cherokee the later ones are really nice, keep looking on copart but nothing suitable :-(
@SeriousAboutSalvage4 жыл бұрын
I was surprised to see the 2.4 petrol under the bonnet, supposed to average 31 mpg but probably more like 25....
@malcolmturton97794 жыл бұрын
@@SeriousAboutSalvage Yes not too bad on fuel for the size of it, my Freelander 2 doesn't do much more and it's diesel. I had a look at the video about changing the bearing, it looks pretty straightforward if a little fiddly. I hope that is the issue with yours and I look forward to seeing your video on it.
@limekilnfarm96574 жыл бұрын
I won’t be the clutch release bearing. My moneys on gearbox. Your test is the wrong way round. Release bearing makes a noise when you depress the clutch. Noises only there when you release the clutch means the input shaft is engaged and rotating. Ooops. Good luck though
@harrynewbrook51034 жыл бұрын
Hi phil looks an ok car,but it certainly sounds like an input shaft bearing,which if i remember correctly is a fairly easy job to do and should work out a lot cheaper than a clutch and thrust bearing,hopefully as you said,should be a good profit on this one.One possibly down side may be the fact its petrol,road tax is going to be high do you think.
@SeriousAboutSalvage4 жыл бұрын
Had Input shaft bearing out today, was definatly knackered! Road tax is £305 i think post office said, Expensive but still cheaper than my S4!
