Welcome back to another TechShow video! Today I'm going to be repairing and testing out an old RCA W101 V2 laptop/tablet I bought used for $3

you're like the 2016 guy now just can't get it out of my head that most of the stuff back then has more metal which I want you to see if you can mist cool at your own risk since metal and cooling vs metal and too hot I got a iphone 7 plus with that metal back and feel a bit lazy to even attempt that did it once w/ ice but it seemed like wifi stopped working for a bit must be too much resource use when it was happening

I bought one of these from Wal-Mart years ago. (Gosh, years. That makes it, and me, feel so old.) It's been dormant for at least a year, but given its size and duel orientation screen, I'm sorely tempted to install Recalbox or Batocera on it and turn it into a makeshift arcade cabinet. It's not good for video games out of the box, but a few DLL files makes it much more game-friendly.

That sounds like an awesome project! If you're using it in a permanent way like a game cabinet where it will be plugged in most of the time, make sure to limit the battery charge to keep this battery from giving you issues. I don't think it's a great quality battery, and would probably go bad pretty fast. (swelling, overheating, stuff you don't want)

Great deal. I wish I could find a similar one for such low prices. The best use for these type of devices, in my experience, is as media devices for Netflix or to read comics/manga.

Yeah I was pretty lucky to find this one for so cheap. You just have to keep your eyes out anywhere there's used stuff being sold/auctioned.

For $3, its a nice little machine, Nice video! Maybe you could turn it into a little server for controlling any smart appliances for anything you have! Just being able to take it with you anywhere in the house could be useful

Thanks! I agree, It's definitely a steal for that price, I wish more people would want to get rid of their old laptops LOL. That's a great idea to turn it into a smart home server, I've actually thought about that, and I've been working on setting up a portable home security terminal. Maybe a future video idea...?

Put ReviOS 11 on that thing, it's lightweight version of Windows 11 without telemetry, bloatware of extra services or stuff you don't need and it's gaming friendly/oriented since it still has Microsoft Store

This tablet does support boot from USB and it will only allow windows 10 32bit to be installed because the UEFI cannot support x64 even though the processor is technically x64 Be careful how far ahead you update your windows because your touch screen & audio WILL go out.

About the same size as the Acer One I had. That had Win7 Starter.

I have the same one but I downgraded it to windows 8.1 because it was slow and never could get the touch screen working I've installed loads of drivers some make the touch screen tap weird but it's a nice fast tablet on windows 8.1

Can you share sound driver , touch driver , camera and bluetooth?because i can't find the real driver through manufacturer or i install incorrect windows 10 in rca w101 v2

Is the touchscreen working? I think I have the same model, but the wifi doesn't give me the same trouble you mention, so you might want to get a copy of the wireless adapter driver and uninstall the one you currently have. These Atom Baytrail tablets technically can run a 64-bit version of windows, but they have a 32-bit bios with no update from Intel, so as far as Windows goes you can only install 32-bit systems. Linux, on the other hand, has workarounds for their 64-bit distros to work on these machines.

Yes, the touchscreen works fine. I'll have to check the drivers to see if that could be an issue with the WiFi.

I'm sorry, but I didn't even know you could access the BIOS on this laptop. How did you access it?

Mines from 2018 I either pressed ESC or delete

I JUST installed mxlinux on mine the battery wont charge it says 100% but only runs on usb charger. Touch screen isnt working yet, but i have a mouse and kb in a usb hub. Its my project for the time being see if i can fix things. Wifi is weak will try to update.
