Thank you for all the tips! The reason I don’t stop the pto when I raise the gate, is because my baler has a big belt in the bottom to roll the bale out. If I stop the pto the bale will get stuck.

And grease it well ..it looks dry on all the bearings and chains. His hands were not dirty after handling the chain. LOL that means lube me please.

Since this was my first time running a baler it took some getting used too. I’ve baled a few fields since then and have figured out that backing up will definitely help. Thanks for all the tips.

@@RockWellAcresFarm2023 The older stuff is typically built far better than anything currently produced... and is far simpler, with less things to go wrong. As such it is generally easier to repair. Stay away from ANYTHING with electronics in it, if you can. Good luck. I think you'll fare just fine in the future. Hang tight.

I see your point, but it’s pretty sad when you judge a kid for the kind of shoes he wears. FYI…Austin used to wear boots everywhere…I mean EVERYWHERE. As he grew, his foot got so wide that even wide shoes aren’t wide enough. Boots even worn for a few hours hurt his feet so much he has to quit working. I would rather have a hard working kid wearing crocs any day over a lazy kid wearing boots. To each his own.

That’s awesome! Seems to me like a lot of older equipment can out perform and last longer than the newer stuff. You just have to be willing to give them a little tlc.

That sounds like a steal for your baler! My baler doesn’t have a monitor. It just has a string switch that hooks to my battery but my tractor already had a stinger built into it. I changed the adapter and it works great!

I know all about that. That’s happed to me at least 4 times already 😂. At least it’s on the edge of the bale where I can pull it out.

They don’t make ‘em like they used to. Companies used to take pride in their work. Stuff was made to last.

The reason the baler was such a good deal is because it was not even a mile down the road. It came with a mountain of new parts including a new set of belts, pickup teeth, and bearings. The tires and pickup teeth are in great shape and will last a long time. I have a disc mower but the reason I switched to the hay bine is because it’s so much easier to attach. I would use the disc mower more if I had another tractor and didn’t have to switch implements so often. Thanks for watching!

That’s a good idea. I need to look into a dump rake. For good hay like this I could easily get $80 a bale here in Arkansas, but this year I’m probably going to have to keep all of this for our horses to winter on. I have several more fields that my neighbors have asked me to cut that I should be able to sell and get my money back pretty quick that way. Their hay is a little more weedy and probably more for cows. It’s mixed grass but I should still get $50-$60 a bale on most of that. I just uploaded a video of me cutting one of those fields. So it was $600 for the baler , $75 for the rebuild on the cylinder, about $20 in chain links (we’ve gone through 7). It came with multiple new parts including all new belts, pick-up teeth and rollers. Thank you for watching!

They do make great bales! I still have to figure out the adjustments because it seems like the bales are too tight. It’s such a tight bale that I have trouble stabbing it with my spear. But I would rather have it too tight than too loose.

Yes that would be nice. I have a David Brown 880 that is a independent pto but it needs a transmission. After I fix it, it will be my main tractor.

You tractor has a 2 stage clutch!!!.....partially down stops tractor, and lets you shift gears....all the way down stops pto..... and stops tractor.....I realize you are young and Learning and i like seeing this old equipment workin...I run mostly old equipment too.... But, learn to use the clutch....both stagesof it......second, use the hand throttle and leave the foot throttle to road travel and just moving from place to place on the farm...or loader work...the sudden rpms up and down.... and not using constant rpm's is wreaking havoc on the equipment and most likely contributed to some of the failures in this video......and lastly.....wear you some protection....not safety sallying here, and not telling you what to do....just have experience from not doing it myself......wear some leather boots/shoes prefer steel toe, safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection will go a long way in the future..... as you get older, you will appreciate taking these seemingly silly safety steps now... and one more thing.....Put an inline fuse in the 12volt power supply to baler....LOL trying to get the tractor unhooked from a burning baler is no fun.......Enjoyed your video very much and hope to see you making hay again this year.... @@RockWellAcresFarm2023

I guess beauty, or value, is in the eye of the beholder. My son absolutely loves making old things work, or at least attempting to. It brings him so much joy! He also learns a lot of life lessons, which means these old, what some would call “worthless” mowers and balers, still have a lot of worth in them.

I am so proud of this young man for using his talents and learning as he goes. Can't learn that with brand new equipment. I choose to encourage the youth in their attempts at learning and accomplishing difficult tasks. Good job, Austin!
