The rust in the rear wheel arches is due to the mud sitting between the arch liner and the metal work. The mud enters from with in the wheel arch and has nothing to do with the rubber strip on the door. Best thing is to remove the liners every so often and jet out the back side of the metal work and it will not rust on you.

These cars as well as range rover sport first gen are not that unreliable as many people think... People tend to use these car without paying attention how to properly maintain Range rover .

I have had my full fat for four years and love it to bits. I haven't had any reliability issues, it gets me to where I need to be, it tows, takes the fam away on holidays and plays "posh motor" when needed. I do service more frequently than Land Rover suggest and I have owned quite a few plus other LR products so know that these vehicles are no less reliable than any other large 4 X 4 or modern SUV.

I've had mine for 6 months now and I absolutely love it. I had the right front air strut (£500 fitted) go but the rest had already been replaced. It's an 07' but the 3.6 V8 ands it suits me fine. Had an intercooler hose blow (£45 but I eplaced both) A bit of welding on the front and rear sub frame (300). Rear brake pads (£60 fitted) New tyres were fitted before I bought it and the brake servo had been replaced . Absolutely loving it so far. Good luck with yours, I plan to get the paint sorted, hopefully short of a full respray as there isn't much rust on it tbh considering it had been parked up for 3 years prior to my purchasing it, it had only done 500 miles in the previous 4 years.

Bit of advice for your Range Rover. Get your gearbox oil flushed once every 10 -15,000 miles and it will last forever. It turns out its a crucial service requirement, that I didn't know about, Recon Gearbox £2500, at Only 100,000 miles on the clock

Nice score mate! In Australia we have Ford model known as a Territory. I bought a 2012 awd version privately with 267k on the clock. As you are doing, I started catching up with the maintenance. The first thing I did was change the automatic transmission oil and filter. The reason I am sharing this is this. For some bizarre reason there is a belief that these ford gearboxes are sealed for life! This is the biggest BS I have ever come across... But I continually hear it. Right from the first oil/filter change there was a big improvement with everything about the gearbox. I often joke 80% of the noise disappeared in 80 metres. I have since changed the oil 2 More times and placed 5 niobium magnets in the pan, which are doing a great job. I now have 302k on the clock, have travelled the the Great Central Road from Perth to Uluru pulling an off road trailer it has been fantastic. I truly hope that you can get to enjoy your Rangey as much. I probably should have looked into that market.

@@carsandcustard oh yeah I forgot to mention. In the distant past I did quite a bit of dealership work in between heavy engineering jobs. A product I am sure you can get in the UK to help with your electric windows is "Mr Sheen". Squrit it into the window runners and run your finger into the groove all around, squirt a bit more in and then run the window up and down a few times to get it onto the glass. Put the window up and clean the glass with metholaded spirits and paper towels. Repeat as required, usually lasts about 3 months. For whatever reason it seems to be better than other silicone products for this purpose. Hope it helps for you.

For life indeed doesn't exist. Then a century and 10 million miles shouldn't be a problem. Had the gearbox of my 2008 town&country with 270k kilometers flushed last week. Doesn't even make that much difference but is simply needed maintenance.

@@carsandcustard Replace the rear Diff oil as well. It's just as important and a very easy job. But very important to check the upper socket bolt can be removed first before undoing the lower one, that drains the oil. Or obviously you wont be able to refill the Diff once drained.

The rust on the rear wing where the arch meets the bumper will end up in holes once the paint and rust is removed, remove the cill cover where it meets the arch and you will be able to put your fingers or hand into a rust hole , all repairable but better to prevent than cure , but to late once you see rust

Make sure you got another £3000 in a jamjar for a rainy day fund. When it goes wrong, you can see, I used the word when not if it goes wrong, it will cost you a bloody fortune you’ll be smiling until the moment you get a quote from the Garage and you will no longer ever be smiling. I have had many range rovers through the years as company vehicles have worked for many companies that had them as company vehicles for the bosses, and when they come brand-new from Jaguar Land Rover, they spend more time back at the main dealers been fixed under warranty at times more time in the car with the customer being used. Yes all cars are unreliable at times, but when you pay the premium that these cost brand-new back in the day and even still open till today with the new vehicles, they should not go wrong like they do.

@@Spartansrule118 You need a list of preventative maintenance? other than that the biggest issue will be replacing parts that every car has to, at some time. But with a Range Rover it's a lot more expensive. Tyre's are around £200 each. suspension struts £1000. EGR valves need replacing/cleaning on some models every 80,000 mls. Major job. Turbos don't last forever. I'm hoping to average out at £10,000 in ten years doing 50,000 mls. Which is expensive maintenance costs for the amount of miles. Define ironic, custard! That RR you compared the price to ... was the one I bought a week ago (the actual one in your vid) 😎 I actually bought that TDV8 ... with about 4K of servicing on top plus a new tow bar fitted ... all new fluids throughout - It's only 56K miles - not sure what your one is ... but looking at the bolsters ... probably a wee bit more 😉 (I can let you know the final price if you're interested ). It's funny because the 4.2 v8 was what first made me fall in love with that engine ... which is why I bought ... a JaguaR S type R with 70,0000 miles ... and then put another 100,000 miles on her with nothing but regular upkeep ... until 2 weeks ago. Her sills were quoted at 3K for replacement and I'd just put a new radiator in a month before. It was finally the sensible choice to let the Jag go even though I'd sworn to get her to 200,000 miles ☹ Regardless - the point is, we both clearly have the same engine love and man maths going on ... I'm loving the TDV8 for the moment, but still have both ... plus an original S1 Lotus Elise which I've driven now for over 20 years now as a comparison to the behemoths. Contact me if you want to do a comarison anytime 👍

Nice car but impossible to drive at low cost. Maintenance will always be expensive and it gets worse the older they get. Got myself a 2008 Chrysler town & country half a year ago. Same story. So far go over 5000 euro maintenance in it and not done yet. It might even out a bit over time but the next thing will break down one day. Only go for these old big vehicles when you can really really afford it. Success with the Range Rover anyhow and i will follow the developments!

It sounds like half the reason you bought it is status. You can get comfort, power and reliability from other mark's.

TDV8 and TDV6 engines are absolute waste of money, just a matter of time when they need to be replaced or remanufactured.

I don’t think they’re a waste of money, but I do think they’re quite overrated. The TDV8 definitely has it’s place for more agricultural use. The TDV6/TD6 aren’t something I’d want when V8’s are available.

Yes but that kit you've got is an extra ontop of the autobiography kit. Not all autobiography have it, it's an extra on the autobiography not standard. If you look you will see that kit is extremely rare. Absolutely worth it. I've just bought a 60 plate 4.4 tdv8 autobiography with lots of extras beyond autobiography standard spec which also includes this kit so your very lucky to have it.

Sorry to pee on your chips, But, to put it correctly, you didnt buy a £75K range rover, thats when it was new in 2007, you bought a £3k range rover, second hand in 2023, and should expect problems, what could possibly go wrong ?? Thats a twist on buying a £12k house in 1957 but its worth £999k in 2023.
