I worked for an auto auction in 2005 and drove this same car through the block, it sold for $72,000 and on the back road leading to the parking lot I floored it at 5 MPH I was instantly thrown back in the seat, my head hit the headrest my heart was pounding then I ran out of road as the first gear limiter kicked in around 60 MPH... It was the most thrilling few seconds I've had in a car to this day....awesome car!

I used to have an obsession with Porsche when I was a kid. To the point where for my birthday my dad took me to the local Porsche store. This was around 2004 - 2006. But ever since they changed the front lights design I no longer like the car that much. The lights you have on this design are the old ones that I loved but at some point they changed the lights back to a more circular design.

I had one of these 10 yrs ago for about 6 months. Engine was strong, especially when chipped to 500 HP. But no personality - big initial push but then totally linear (boring) power delivery, unlike a V8 that pulls harder as the revs climbed. Also horrible as a daily driver. Looked amazing though! Replaced with an FD RX7 which was much more of a rush to drive!

Awesome. I don't care what other people think or say, 996 turbos are one of my favorite Porsches. I think they are beautiful and under $40k is a steal for the performance that car offers. Congrats on a great purchase. You'll have a lot of fun with it, i have no doubt.

I once had a 996 Cab. It was a fun car in the summer. I now have the 997 911 Turbo and it’s crazy quick. I do wish it were a manual. Thanks Hoovie for sharing.

The problem with the 996 front end for me was, from the front I couldn't tell if it was a 911 or Boxster coming down the road. The two cars had the same front clip which I thought to be a cheap cop-out from Porsche. The 996 was an exercise in cost cutting. When the 997 came out in 2005 I fell in love with the looks, interior, 'lobster fork' wheels, and that finally a 911 had more horsepower than my '89 928 S4. I still have both cars.

I haven't been tainted with Porsche fandom, so to me the front end actually looks very good.

This is an awesome buy! These turbos in this condition usually go for $45k-50k so you did good my friend! I wouldn't hesitate to bring this car to the track as it has a dry sump but please find a magician to remove your curse first.

Hoovie, did the Wizard point out that when you go round a track in a car with a wet sump, you push all the oil to one side, causing metal on metal contact? This could have killed your car. The solution is oil meant for racing but that contains metals that react with your catalytic converter. The metals stick to the components and prevent damage when the oil drains away during a high speed turn.

Did you bring it to the Wizard to check it out first before you wreck it?

I've always loved the 996 Porsches ❤ didnt really know at the time they were the 996 body 😂 being so young knowing they were manual they have such a unique look 😍😶 would so buy one and upgrade it slightly for the fun and enjoyment maybe after college but the 991 are so killer⚠️

Been looking at 996T for a while. Best time to buy was about 3-4 years ago. They've been creeping up in price since then, but still deals to be found.

I never had a problem with the looks of this car. It looks good to me, especially with a nice pair of rims like yours has. Never understood why the extra little part of the headlights turned so many people away. Pretty nit picky if you ask me, if you buy it new I get it, but when it's used and is like half the price of an 06, that's ridiculous to me

For the plebs out there I recommend u look at '944 86 and up with the updated dash' & '928 with a chevy ford engine', those shud keep u out of too much trouble with money pit maintenance costs, of course stay on top of all the regular stuff

I have a 2002 996 and love it!!!! I have the 19” turbo rims with 12mm spacers. Makes the car look amazing. I like the rims on your turbo they make the car look more up to date.

I’ve had 2, a 2002 standard black car then a 2005 Turbo S with every option including the aero kit 👌🏼 marvellous things, tracked the life out of mine and they never missed a beat! (Owned them for 9 years combined)

I bought a turbo 911 but sold after 6 months for base 911 4S. The turbo you bouncing of the rev limiter so fast with triple digits in seconds. The slower 911 more enjoyable without the license losing speeds. I have owned a boxster also. Both great vehicles. I own primarily all Teslas now but own a Panamera 4S for my wife’s occasional Use. Porsche makes great dependable cars with beautiful interiors. They offer a 300 Page catalog of just options

Excellent opportunity to show how some basic modifications can take an older Porsche up to the performance level of a new one for a fraction of the price.
