I SPLURGED on a wild Legit Ex-Competition Nascar V8 for my Street/Strip '55 Chevy Project! This is a RACING BEAST from top to bottom! It could have been on the front row at Daytona 2004! These super high compression V8s live over 8000 RPM and should make even more power than it did in a Nascar (750HP or so!) and Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew are going to put it to the test!
Thanks to Wilson Race Engines for the Dyno time!

So I sit here watching this and I'm crying because my dad died on November 3rd 2023. He was an old school drag racer. He had a 66 442. Was a street racer as well as a quarter mile racer. We are from Whitman M.A. he raced at New England dragway. His name was Richard "Dicky"Coughlin . My dad my best friend. He loved your channel. I introduced him to it like a year before he passed and he loved it! Just wish he was sitting next to me watching this! Thank u for your hard work in making a great channel.

I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I didn't have any real racers or fast car lovers in my family growing up, so my uncle got me started working on cars, but it was experience that taught me how to work on cars. I taught myself how to build engines, and I built a 4g63t Mitsubishi turbo engine that made 534 whp, and then I even built a Honda 1.8L four cylinder that went on to make 709 wheel horsepower. I have always been about import cars because of Fast and Furious came out when I was 18 and at the time I had a 302W swapped 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer that I installed an Explorer Express supercharger kit on and it was also jacked up with a Skyjacker 6" lift with 33x12.50 Super Swampers on it (but it was still only 2WD). Right now I have a 2013 BMW 135i as a daily driver, and I have some bolt on mods and a tune, but it's a daily with a warranty, so I can't get too crazy with it. Still, I'd LOVE to build a high horsepower domestic someday before I die.

8:45 In the mid-80s, I built a 350 4-bolt small block in high school auto shop, with a performance cam and the stock 3 speed that came with my 69 nova and this is exactly how I shifted it.… hard and fast! I regularly revved it to 5k and once to 8K, because I forgot to shift (LOL), but she held strong. Despite its weight, I could easily beat the four-speed Corvettes at the time. I loved that car, I just wish I had the opportunity to put a four-speed and it.

Around '96, I took a bellhousing to a guy in Sun Valley, CA to have some tabs welded to it. It was in a packed, nondescript industrial yard, littered with rusty machine tools. Inside, I found him asleep, tilted back in an office chair at the welding table. Stacked 6" high, all around were cylinder heads, all NASCAR pieces. Turns out he was THE guy to weld up certain passages in order to make them reverse flow. His white beard came down to the edge of his welding helmet, and he said he hadn't trimmed it in over 2 decades. If you weld, you know why. Neat guy, and a fun experience for a car guy like me. Legends are everywhere, and if you stumble around, you'll find them.

Many years ago Indy cars started using aluminum block Buick v6 2 valves per cylinder engines running 30 lbs of boost because they were 2 valves per cylinder push rod engines. They produced 900 horsepower. Honda because they were 4 valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams were relegated to 8 lbs of boost. It worked once they figured out the reliability issues and won a number of races for several years.

Hi, Tony! Have followed you from your other TV show. You push the limits. I do not expect a reply, but had to comment when your video had “1955 Chevy” in the title. Your NASCAR engine small block is amazing- However, I could identify with your excitement- way back in 1970. My car did not have your NASCAR horsepower or modern tech. But- it had tilt - fiberglass front end, 55 hardtop, 4 spd, 4.56 gears, and a sb 350 Camaro engine; after using a Z/28 ‘0ff-Road service cam & springs, 12.5:1 TRW pistons, FI heads, and 780 Holley, balanced with flywheel- Redline was 9300rpm - On the street, There is something unique driving a 55, with instant explosive power in any gear. Keep shifting hard, Tony !

I had all that money already spent on this motor so I had to take it to another shop to have them correct it. They charge me 3800. And still something doesn't seem right with the motor. Unfortunately your story is very common.. There are lots of guys that build one for themselves, and it works because the parts they bought just to happen to line up tolerance stacking wise.. They don't check clearances that should be checked and verifed, or proper cooling/oiling mods to stock blocks.. Then they think they can do it for others, but the tolerances don't always align and they end up tearing up lots of peoples stuff. I have had a few motors built, and I have always used shops that build motors for circle track/dirt racing. Those engine guys get lots of business, and know how to put an engine together that will sustain high hp, along with high rpm for a long time.. Not these drag builders that try and make a motor last a few seconds at a time, to then claim, "Well thats racing for ya".. I have always trusted circle track builders over drag builders no matter what my goal was..

That engine is going to become as a child to you!! Treat it as such!! Every time you eat, every time you change socks, every time you use the restroom, every time you think about firing the motor up make sure the oil's been changed with filters of course!! And please to make sure that James Webb is with you when examining the oil! This child of yours could grow up to be a very serious contender of an adult!!!!!!! Sincerely only the best!

I can’t really believe that people are all that impressed. This guy pulls a NASCAR race engine straight out of a crate and sticks it right on the dyno without doing any investigation whatsoever. $12,500 for a NASCAR motor and doesn’t even bother to pull off valve covers, doesn’t bother to verify valve lash or check spark plugs for GAP or fouling. Let’s just stick it in the dynamometer and see what happens! More money than brains I don’t see this engine lasting very long.

Nothing like high hp N/A motors IMO.. I love the snappiness and feeling of ringing them out.. I sold my 2016 Gen2 Mustang 5.0 with VMP TVS that made 760whp on the small pulley, but usually drove it on the bigger one that made about 660whp.. it was fun but very one sided, it was only fun doing pulls like a crotch rocket.. It was boring to drive everywhere else, and didn't sound good unless you were at full song.. Sold it, bought a 22 6th gen 1LE Camaro and built the motor with ported intake, ported heads, springs, retainers, BTR camshaft, headers, halfshafts, & clutch.. It made 608whp on the rollers & is so much more fun.. The car sounds amazing, and can corner like a beast on backroads, along with highway pulls/roll races.. I don't dig race it but its still the most fun car I've ever had.. 600wheel N/A is so much more useable, and being a manual it just ups the fun factor over an auto supercharged car that spins tires no matter what.. 600wheel is the perfect number for max enjoyment on the streets.. Anymore and its just too much..

No matter what that block it's made of it's American Iron to the core putting out a good helping of American draft horse and Clydesdale combined, where you get a bit nervous just standing next to it because you know it's way bigger than you. American cubic inches at it's best. The CDN.
