This is my latest project.
It's a 1968 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV, hence the sought after first series, that was offered to me upon recommendation. It's going to get a full restoration on the channel over the next years.

Yeah, the most optimistic target would be spring 24, but that’s probably quite naive. More realistic target would be to take Olivia for the journey to Padova 23.

Being blessed with 10 thumbs and disconcerting incoordination I am in awe of your departure on this adventure. Love Alfas. Growing up, my neighbour raced a P3 Alpha with his son in the 1950’s and retired with a factory “breathed on” 1750 GTV which was replaced with a 2000 GTV after he ( heartbreakingly) front ended the 1750 and could not bring himself to repair it. Along with the 2000 came me as car-wash-and- detailer-in-chief, driving support dogs-body and all round in-love-with -Alphas - forever. Hope the resto is going well. Don’t forget to post us all an update !

Going through the boxes of parts gave me a flashback of when I brought my shell and bits back home! Really looking forward to see this project come together. It looks like a lot of work but poorly restored shiny cars need about the same amount of new panels replaced. I would start from the floor and work my way out. Hey Robert. 66 means 1600, scalino and single headlights, right? What colour is yours? I tend to go for one of the contemporary blue tones, i.e. Bluette, Blu Francia or Blu olandese. That is for two reasons: I found traces of blue at hidden places of the body and though there’s no actual justification, I still like the idea of giving her back the original colour. Second reason: the cacao kind of tone of the interior will give a perfect match with dark blue.

Hi there, I have been enjoying a lot watching some of your work, specially for the 911 as I have an old 911SC. I have a question if you don't mind, it seems some parts for the brake got restored, kind of zinc/nickel plating? Is there a service you are using that you are willing to share with us? Would you recommend to do it yourself? Will it be possible to describe in your videos the products you are using for your work? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the feedback! When callipers of my cars need restoration, I send them to a little specialist company in southwest Germany. Drop me a mail and I can forward you the contact. I generally only recommend products if I find them standing out of products of the same kind. If it’s just standard products I mention the kin, but not the brand. If you have questions, just ask.

Congratulations on your fantastic new project, Johannes, it'll be wonderful when it's done. Seeing as it's a 68 should it not have the "Scalino" front end? For me Giugiaro's original design is the most pure; the subsequent cars still look good, but the original is so perfectly resolved - a masterpiece. I look forward to seeing it's restored inner metalwork covered in pink epoxy 🙂
@GreasyFingers

Thanks, Angus. In fact it is a master piece especially when you think about Giugiaro’s age when he did it. I’m not an expert in Alfa history, but it appears the GTV became non-scalino earlier than the Junior. I let the experts comment …

Welcome to the "pleasures" of Alfa ownership Johannes! That body has had a hard life, but I'm sure you will be able to sort it out. I'm looking forward to the videos! The interior looks great and those are the best seats and dash. Is the engine a 1750?
@GreasyFingers

Thank you, Mark. I was looking for a major challenge in terms of body work and I guess that’s what it is. The engine is a period correct 1750, but not the matching number engine of the very car, I guess. The former owner has about 10 engines in stock and I suppose he took the best one from the shelf for this project.

@GreasyFingers
@GreasyFingers Жыл бұрын
I’ve looked into the US 928 market in the past weeks, but couldn’t get the hang of the pricing. I found low priced cars between 10 and 20k with no obvious reasons to justify twice the price. The same was true for the upper segment. 50-100k and I never recognised what the reason could be. Gave it up and went for a 944 Turbo instead which I’m going to use for a Michigan to NYC road trip in the coming weeks.

@GreasyFingers
@GreasyFingers Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe. I’m not sure about the leather. People keep telling me the seats are very rare, but I’m not an expert in the 105’s history and I don’t want to say anything wrong. When it comes to KTL, I’m driven by the fact that it has been the method of choice in the contemporary car industry for 2-3 decades now. Of course today’s body designs are tailored towards it, and that’s exactly what challenges me: how to apply it to an ancient design?
@joehounsham424
@joehounsham424 Жыл бұрын
@@GreasyFingers @Greasy Fingers There company I spoke to about doing mine said ( for the initial dip) holes needed to be drilled in any areas where the solution could not drain once it was removed from the tank. In addition, it was advised to E-coat before outer ( and possibly) middle Sills were fitted to reduce the risk of the acid solution collecting in the flanges where the panels meet, and to allow the coating to be applied to these areas properly. In the end, I figured modern Epoxy primer and cavity wax applied properly would likely outlast my lifetime anyway - so that's why I'm swaying away on my 66 GTV but might opt for my GTV 2000
@GreasyFingers
@GreasyFingers Жыл бұрын
@@joehounsham424 Thanks, Joe. That’s exactly my thoughts too. I was thinking along the lines of e-coating it without the middle and outer sill, maybe even without the quarter panels (and coating these separately of course). Doing all the adjustment work of the sill panels before (and tacking it together, but then disassemble it again) would make sure that things fall in place after the coating took place.

So many choices I don't know which to buy, 1300, 1600, 1750, 2000, Giulia Super there are good ones of all on the market for good prices here in Australia at the moment as Covid mania has subsided and recession has created a buyers market - perfect timing for me lol. Hi mate. That is a fortunate! For 20, I’d take a 1300 Giulia, for 30 a 1600 Giuilia, for 40 a 1300 GT, for 50 a 2000 GT. Special models and model years like the first series 1750 peak 70k in the meantime.

Hey, enjoying your postings for some time. Ahead for me: Yet to redo my 74 2L. GTV again, after poorly done professional sills work. I found water leaking and ruined floor driver side, so removed for full replacement. Have had 67 GTV, 65 GTA, and 66, 74 spiders, others... Currently also a 72 GTV racecar with many lightweigh-ting modifications. KTM or KTL? Is that a heavy protection layer for the underside or inside of sheetmetal? I will use a rotisserie. Curious why you don’t? (Did the racecar on an adjustable one I made up)

@GreasyFingers
@GreasyFingers Жыл бұрын
Hi Maxi.
@GRockt
@GRockt Жыл бұрын
