I forgot to update on the sunscreen! With re application, I was nicely matte to the touch, not greasy or oily throughout the day. However if you are after matte looking skin, this doesn’t do that. Just nice moisturised looking skin

That Hello clean…I don’t know. I really prefer more acidic cleansers. And I could see that this one has a ph of 6. A little more basic that our 5.5 skin. As I have cystic acne prone skin in my back (even at 51 yo) and I sweat a lot, I really look for less than ph5 ( 4 or 3.5) bath gels. Those are the ones that really get along with my skin and are not drying, even with, supposedly, heavy surfactants in them.

I think I'm getting old but it softly infuriates me when all these girls on TikTok use a face product under ring lights and say that it makes them "glow". You 100% know that in real life that's not just a glow, you just look like you're greasy as hell. Nothing wrong with oily skin but let's not misrepresent the blown out ring light version of the oil slick lol

The la roche posay antihelios melt in milk is phenomenal tho. I work outdoors, sweat like I'm getting paid for it, and am very acne prone and that stuff is the best out there. It doesn't look like there's nothing on my face, but it makes me look reasonably moisturized instead of total greaseball. No nasty sunscreen taste or eye stinging as sweat is dripping down my face, doesnt make my acne worse. Also I know it says water resistant not water proof but holy crap it help up for hours at the beach. I was stupid and forgot to sunscreen my legs (or reapply at all ) and got a sumburn that blistered up and peeled. My top half was completely fine. If you hate sunscreen and you're out in extreme sun and humidity try it.

For anyone who wants to try going low or 'zero' waste in terms of skincare there are a few things to be aware of: 1: A lot of so called 'zero' or 'low' waste products contain natural ingredients. Don't assume natural means automatically safe, as these ingredients can still cause things like skin allergies and reactions. See if a company has testers or samples available and try them first before you dive in and waste your money on a full sized jar of product you can't use. 2: Lots of so called 'natural' products contain little to no preservatives. This means they have to be used up within a certain amount of time, so it's no use buying umpteen dozen different products to try at once. They will go off before you can get through them all, so buy only what you're actually going to use. 3: Be aware of what can and can't be recycled in your area. It's all well and good to order a product online that claims to be 100% recyclable packaging, but that means nought if that particularly packaging can't actually be recycled where you live. 4: Consider the effects of transporting a zero waste product. It kind of defeats the purpose of trying to go low, or zero waste if you then load that product onto a plane and fly it over to you, and then have yet more carbon footprint making delivery trucks drive the product to your front door. Some places, like Etsy, are starting to offer carbon offset delivery, but in some ways you might really just be better off travelling to your local shops and buying skincare products there.

@@eveningstar8581 I actually do use so called 'natural' skincare in the form of recreated vintage Edwardian and Victorian skincare products; I just don't assume that using the products automatically gives me bonus points in terms of being environmentally friendly. I use the products because I genuinely like how they feel on my skin, not because of a bunch of marketing buzzwords like 'clean' and 'natural'. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with using 'natural' skincare, so long as people are fully aware of what that means, eg: that you absolutely cannot stock up on these products, you only buy as much as you know you're going to use in a certain time frame, and if you want to be more environmentally conscious then you have to factor in things like packaging and transport as well. Being a more conscious and aware consumer can be a good thing, but getting sucked into phony feel good marketing buzz terms is not.

Flying it over isn’t the issue, people are flying on planes daily, the plane was going to deliver products either way telling a few people to be aware of buy zero waste products because they have to be sent to you isn’t going to solve anything. The thing to look out for is how that company is dealing with the pollution making products on a large scale creates and holding them accountable for their claims. We are always going to leave a foot print, but we can aim for a few prints vs a whole trail.

With antiperspirants, applying the night before is ideal. It gives the aluminium a chance to get to your sweat glands because while you sleep, you don't sweat much. Applying when you're going to be awake and sweating prevents the aluminium being able to do its thing.

for people curious about the Hello Klean body wash, I've tried it (am using it now). In a nutshell: I love it and it works well for people with compromised skin and actual hard water. I moved to a city with water 2-3 times as hard as where used to live a couple of months ago. I have eczema and dry skin. Usually my skin is pretty balanced because I take good care of it, but the water here has ruined my skin. I got way more eczema flare ups and had to get a special cream for the ithing. Even a 5 minute shower makes my whole skin feel tight and ithy. I've been using the wash for about 2 weeks now and I noticed an immideate difference. I use it last in the shower, rub it in on my whole body with the water off and then quickly rinse my body (so not standing under the water for another 5 minutes). My skin is considerably less dry and itchy when I get out off the shower and my body acne has improved as well!

I'm not particularly fond of DIY skincare, but I've got psoriasis lesions half a foot in diameter, just raw and opened skin. I'm desperate, and cannot tolerate the itching and burning especially during/after showering. What ingredients have you found are helpful for soothing the irritation?
@ginnyl7208
@ginnyl7208 6 ай бұрын
@alabama.worley i want to start by saying that I have eczema, so I can't give specific advice for psoriasis as they are different conditions and with psoriasis there is also a buildup of skin cells (the plaques) which isnt the case for eczema. if it's full on opened skin (as in possibly bleeding), I'm not sure as that is more like a wound and you would probably be better of getting it checked out by a doctor to get a special cream that is okay to use on opened skin. But generally, how I treat a wound is to use an appropriate cream and then bandage it and change it once a day (I did this with burns). I know a lot of people use steroid creams, which do help with intense itching (common with eczema), but when used long term, it can be very damaging as it can thin the skin and you can become depended on it which can cause even worse reactions. So honestly, even if the doctor prescribes this to you, I would be very careful in only using it temporarily to help with the worst of it and then switch to barrier repairing creams. I personally got a cream recommended from the pharmacy with no steroids that did wonders for my eczema when my usual products didn't work. I used it 2x a day for a week when the itching was so bad that I couldn't sleep and the itching was immediately lessened.. It was the Ducray Dexyane Med soothing repair cream eczema treatment. I know they also have a cream specifically for psoriasis that is also supposed to help with the dry 'plaques', but I don't have experience with that. I don't know if they sell this brand all over the world, but it might be worth looking into. But just in general, you need to be very gentle. These skin conditions are basically compromised and damaged skin barriers. I would look into skin barrier repair products. Apart from the ducray cream (which I only use when my eczema itches), I've been using the La Roche Posay lipikar AP+m body cream for years. It's sadly tested on animals, but I haven't found anything else that works as well to moisturise and protect my skin without having to apply it multiple times a day (like I had to do with other products). I think especially for you as psoriasis causes skin cell build up, you might want to look into gentle exfoliating products suited for that condition (so not just any old products please). Because hard water can cause a waxy (soap scum) buildup on the skin that can worsen skin conditions. But I want to express that I am not a dermatologist or doctor.

@alabama.worley and specifically for hard water and calcium deposits, the most common ingredient is EDTA. But a natural alternative is apple cider vinegar. But sometimes other clarifying ingredients can work too like chemical exfoliants or sls. But these I only use once in a while. But again, do some research to see how these ingredients bode for psoriasis. Some skin healing and repairing ingredients that I have loved are shea butter, niacinamide, tamanu oil, urea and ceramides. I personally don't love using vaseline (or product with a high amount of paraffinum liquidum) on their own. I only tend to use it on top of other creams and treatment to create a barrier. But again, I only have experience with treating my eczema

@alabama.worley and lastly (sorry for the many messages) a shower filter might help. I recently bought one from hello klean as well. I wasn't sure if it was helping until I moved again last month to a place with even worse water. I didn't use the filter for a week and only the shower wash as they needed to repair a part of the shower before I could install the filter. And I can't tell you how horribly my skin was itching. Even just from one day of not using the filter anymore. When I installed it again I felt relief instantly and after a week my skin was alright again. You don't have to buy the Hello Klean one but I do recommend to use the shower wash in combination with a filter as shower filters help with a lot or mineral deposits, but only minimally with calcium (you'd need a full water softener system for your whole house). So that's what the shower wash is specifically for as chelating ingredients do help with the calcium deposits.

I tried the carp antiperspirant but the hand cream and it worked great! My hands sometimes look like I just got done washing them and shook my hands instead of drying them level of sweat. It's disgusting. It made my hands feel like they were sealed with something, BUT my hands would sweat more at the gym, and this prevented it while also providing better grip with the "sealant" texture it provided.

I mix the Anthelios oil control with the tinted SPF 50 to even my complexion and remove some of the shine because otherwise I end up looking really greasy with just the tint. The 2 mixed just look glowy and it's my 'everyday' base for summer, in winter I use the Hyalu B5 gel for hydration. I bulk buy them all on Black Friday and during sales because I know I'll use them. I recommend them to anyone who listens ✨

I tried the Carpe face cream and also got some for my sister at the same time since we have horrible sweat genes, and it didn't do much for either of us. Especially if it's summer and you're already sweating (though I know it says ideally you put it on when not sweating, in the summer I'm already sweating after a shower). It was really disappointing since they emphasize that their brand is for extreme sweat--like hyperhidrosis bad. I also tried applying it a bunch throughout the day like sunscreen, but the face product tube is so small that you'd run out of it in no time if you used it that much. I did like their sweat wipes, but either way, I don't think it's worth the money. You're likely better off with some toner or something mattifying. Both products I tried smelled super strongly of tea tree oil. P.S. I also received their ads a ton on TikTok, even after I already bought the product and clicked "I'm not interested"! It went away for a bit but eventually came back.

I worked at a department store selling mostly Vichy and La Roche Posay. The idea with the mineral water is that they use water from springs in France that have historically been used for skin healing because of the naturally occurring minerals in the spring. The idea is the minerals are important for skin health and hydration, the way certain minerals are important for drinking water to be hydrating. That’s the marketing info they gave us 😊 Mineral 89 is the best!!

I bought that same sunscreen a few weeks ago. I have a very very severe atopic dermatitis, my skin barely produces any oils, so i have to use very thick moisturisers every day, night, summer and winter with tonics and essences underneath to recover hydration. I bought this sunscreen thinking it would make me look less shinny in hot weather, and omg, it dries me out so bad that I have to put vaseline between my moisturiser and the sunscreen! It literally sucks out any product I apply before it, within 3h-5h I'm dry as the sahara desert.

Me too! My face is incredibly dry and no matter what type of cleanser I use- ie balms, etc. my face still gets really tight and dry *immediately* afterwards. You know what I’ve found that has been helping SO MUCH with my dry skin? Essences. Like Dr Ceuracle Kombucha tea essence or Pat McGrath Rose 001 essence are both phenomenal at immediately restoring deep hydration to the skin. It has completely changed my skin, even with all the serums and good moisturizer I use.

The thing with antiperspirants is that they work best if you apply the the previous evening and allow it to get in there and work, if you apply them directly before going to a situation where you might sweat - it won't have time to start working as much as you'd want to.

I've heard ppl accidentally cure their malessezia on their foreheads after using dandruff shampoos, head and shoulders specifically. They noticed the dandruff shampoo from their hairline was clearing their acne and that's how they discovered it was fungal acne. You can use it all over the face a few times a week they say. Have a research, dont take my word but ive heard of it used for this.
