Exact same thing happened to my 06 Saab 9-3 Aero daily 3 years ago. Guy sideswiped me, damaged the back driver door, scuffed up wheels and side skirt. It was marked as a total loss, with a pay out to me. I was optioned to buy it back for only $500. Since it drove perfectly fine, I did. Used the money to buy new wheels/tires, and had the door fixed and repainted. Still drive it to this day.

Hey Alex, you should take your wife on a High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) aka track day exercise! She'd learn a huge amount about how to control a high horsepower car in a safe and really fun environment. I don't really know the scene in the Chicagoland area, but I'll bet there are plenty of great options, or even up in Wisconsin (Road America in Elkhart Lake would be awesome!) - it would also make some great content! I know she's done a few drag runs, but really hurling a fast car around some cones, and then later on a road course would really benefit her skills! Heck, I'm sure you'd learn a lot too!

This is very typical when the owner of a vehicle buys back their car from the insurance company after it is deemed a total loss, When you buy back your own car from an insurance company after it is deemed a total Wass certain states do not require a salvage inspection so the vehicle maintains a clean title

When I was in my accident last year State Farm would not send an adjuster out in person, they relied on pictures that I personally sent them, upon sending the pictures they came back telling me the car was totaled. Agent blatantly told me that sending a check was what they were told to push. So under those circumstances I could see it easily being able to total a car, get a check and then buy the car back for a couple thousand.

My insurance company computer malfunctioned and reported a minor damage as a total loss to carfax on a truck I owned. They reported back to carfax it was a mistake, but they never removed it from carfax records. So, to carfax it is listed as total loss with clean tittle just like the mustang. The truck was repaired by the insurance company and to this day still has clean tittle at the state. But carfax shows it as total loss. It why you cannot trust just carfax.

It's easy to figure out. *Car get into light crash *Insurance company totals car and pays a check with buyback option. *Owner keeps and fixes car puts turbo kit on *Car never gets salvage title as they never become the owner, but has a funky car fax. Pretty standard stuff that keeps a car from getting a salvage title.
@PitinPR
@PitinPR 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! The car got “totaled” because of cost or parts availability. Sometimes the money threshold for the insurance company to total it is lower than the state who is issuing the title’s threshold. (Meaning the insurance co totals the car if the repair is more than 70% of the cars value but the state says that for a branded title the damage needs to be 100% of the value or more). I know this because I just went through this process with my insurance company.

Exactly I did that on a Chevy cavalier they totaled the car out twice and I got about 3 to 4 times wat I paid for the car insurance in claims 🤣
@timmaahhhh
@timmaahhhh 2 жыл бұрын
That is not how it works. If you owner retain salvage, the insurance company will make you transfer the title to salvage before they issue you payment. What most likely happened, is either the insurance company ran a total loss valuation on the car, and deemed it repairable, that is showing on the car fax report, or for what ever reason, the insurance company did not pay out on the claim. Different companies have different thresholds for T/L's, and State Farm loves to deem vehicles a total loss when the repairs are 50% of the ACV. As they drove off road, I cannot see that it would be an issue where there was policy limits from multiple claimants.
@rustler08
@rustler08 2 жыл бұрын
Lol, that's not how it works. You sound like one of those sleazy Salvage title sellers. "Yeah, had $2k in damage and they totaled it." Meanwhile, you see in auction photos the entire front was smashed to bits and they reported a bent frame. Additionally, they don't let you keep a clean title. Something weird happened here.
@plainbrownwrapper9688
@plainbrownwrapper9688 2 жыл бұрын
@@timmaahhhh neither you nor rustler08 have a clue of what you are talking about. I have had this on at least 5+ cars. The title stays clean because the insurance company never takes possession of the vehicle.....it stays titled in the owners name. Never in my 5+ vehicles I have bought back (hail, deer damage, etc) has state farm ever wanted my title or to me transfer the title and hold my payment. They paid me my amount, minus the buy back, and I still have a clean titled vehicle. Those vehicles have been sold or given to family and never once did they get a salvage branding. It's once they take possession of the vehicle, the title is handed to them and becomes their property, is when they check the box of 70% damage, and send them to auction. My wife's Hyundai Accent was totaled by my aunt when it was a year old. My Aunt bought it back from insurance at my request, and sold it to me. I transferred the title and guess what....clean title with zero salvage branding. You two sound like you both have no clue what your talking about, especially when two comments above you have also done this before.

Check the VIN and make sure engine and options match up. The insurance thing could be an entry error or because it's heavily modified, the ACV was already low because it's a mustang then add twin turbo's and you lose money due to all of the "unknowns". Most likely an entry error on another mustang

I am very old school, almost 80 years old. A paper test at the exhaust would have told you if you had compression problems due to a bad exhaust valve. Did you notice #1 and #3 on the RH cylinder bank had more like 75 psi on the first stroke? Not so much difference from the other six cylinders at 55 psi but tells you that the valves are beginning to leak on six of the cylinders. Lastly I would have put the stethoscope on the turbo bearings. That little bit of play could be a bearing beginning to fail but you won’t know until you listen to it at 25+k spin speed. Really nice car. In 06 bought my wife a 04 Mustang Gobra with the pushrod 5.0. A few mods and it was a great Autobahn car, we were living in Germany, would cruise at 115 mph, the max speed using the cruise control.

Alex, just opened the video and I need to caution you. I’m a fanatic of the coyote engine and the mustangs it’s in. The gen1 coyote is not that good for boost and is a toss up above 600whp. You can fully expect to grenade the block if you’re going to keep it above that unless you rebuild it. I would look into a Gen2. They come with the boss302 heads and valves, hold up to 800 whp normally and 1000 whp with OPG and Timing chain tensioner upgrades. The gen3 is a toss up with the cylinder liners being that of the pre-2017 Voodoo.

So long as he keeps it at the 5-6psi it's plenty safe with a gen1 so long as he puts good gas in it. The good thing is he can buy a gen2 short block and that along with some fueling mods and a boss intake manifold and he's ready to make a safe 800whp with minimal cash spent. Definitely would need some drag radials and suspension work to make that hook on the street. But since it's for his wife I wouldn't do any of that.

That was the 1st year motor before the 298. It also had a transmission that could start in 2nd gear from a dead stop in snow and rain. Which was good for a new driver. That was the year we had a blizzard in Illinois. Rear wheel drive was built he thing back in those days. The only cars with FWD were the Eldorado and a couple other cars Toronado and the Buick Rivera.

Smartest move ever. The coyote is the best v8 out there.This being gen 1 takes a lil more but Gen 2 and 3 can handle 650whp easy. gen 2 and 3 have made as high as 1200whp and ran 7s mustang gt and 8s f150 in the 1/4 mile with no heads no cams no pistons no rods no opening the engine unless you want to go built motor which then you can make up to 2500hp on factory block.. Personally i feel the s550 2015 to present Mustangs with IRS modern touch and modern suspension feel like a space ship compared to any other mustang. But coyote in general you won. Most people are swapping coyotes now instead of LS if they are true car guys because boost and fuel a coyote makes gobs of power. to make the same with a LS you need cam heads pistoms rods and then boost and fuel to make what a yote makes

You don't need pistons and rods in LS to handle boost either that's definitely not true both LS and coyote are both good engines the reason people are not Cody swapping the world is because you're not going to pick up a coyote at your local Pick-n-Pull for 150 bucks and that will never happen so that's why LS will definitely win in that sense there was tons more LS engines far cheaper

I did the whole body, all of the glass, all of the plastic, and the wheels, including the inside of the wheels. I even did everything I could reach under the hood. If you have a mid size suv and you're hitting every square inch - get two. I barely had enough even with two bottles.

Seems like a real nice car. Another one your wife will wanna drag race with! Odd story, but as some others have mentionned, it could have been "totaled" 'cuz the broken parts weren't available at the time, kinda like Hoovie's friend's Jeep which was totalled 'cuz, IIRC, the front axle was on backorder and as such, they couldn't replace it.

I've run into a few cars with weird titles like that also had a similar experience myself so obviously the car had a claim which resulted in total loss and sounds like the previous owner kept driving the car kept it in his name and fixed it hence why it never got issue to salvage title now whether or not it really had damage that seems to be the mystery
@ChrisSullivan69

A little turbo shaft play is normal. More than you'd think. They come that way out of the box. When the engine is started oil pressure builds and fills the cartidge which then takes up that slack and any "play". As long as its not coming into contact with the housing you should be good.

That title situation is exactly like my 16 GT. It was totaled in 2017, but I bought it back and had it rebuilt for less than half the insurance estimate, saving me $15k vs buying another comparable car. I have $20k in it and the payout was $35k. The repair estimate was only 70% of the value, so it kept the clean title but shows the total loss on the Carfax. That is why CarMax and Carvana only offer me $10k for it! It's been a great car for the past 5 years since the accident.

Fantastic car!... Sadly, Too Fantastic! Looking at that car with its light corrosion on the spot welds, virgin seam sealer, untouched paint, and 11 year wear on trim where it should be. tells me there is absolutely NO damage on that car! Carfax has its issues at times but that report was pretty damn complete in saying it went off the road and was damaged on the right side for a total loss. There are no "Scars" on this thing not a one! This car has VIN swap AKA (Tag Job) written all over it! I would be looking at all the numbers on this car. Has the windshield been removed or replaced? Are there any tool marks where there should not be? does the hidden VIN match the vin on the dash? I can tell you stickers can be easily recreated and replacement rivets are available. Sadly, this happens all the time. I really hope that I am wrong but, for me... "If there is any doubt, there is no doubt!" Good luck! Really enjoy your channel!

@@floridamancomedy3151 Ugh! That sux! Sadly, you guys may have unknowingly bought a stolen car. At this point I would involve local law enforcement/DMV in your state just to cover yourselves and explain the situation. (You don't want to get caught with stolen property!) The really important number in this situation is the "Hidden VIN". That number is placed in a secret location by the manufacturer and shared with law enforcement. Once found and verified, local law enforcement/DMV will run it through the FBI national vehicle theft data base to see if it comes up as a stolen car. If so, it will be impounded, an investigation will be initiated and eventually the car will be returned to the rightful owner. (In this case I'm guessing an insurance company has paid off the original owner and is now probably the new owner.) To be honest... If the car is stolen and someone swapped the VIN it is VERY UNLIKELY that you will be able to keep the car and even worse, getting your money back will be an uphill battle but don't give up! Most Importantly... Involve law enforcement to protect yourselves... Good Luck!

All coyotes come with factory headers, even the F150 version. They have to because of the horrifically inefficient firing order (naturally the LS firing order is perfect). It's good for power but horrible for scavenging. On an N/A combo the biggest long tube headers you can get are one of the best mods you could do. Gen 1 coyote short block is probably the best for a turbo due to the lower compression and the factory oil jets on the piston skirts.
